Global Handel Issue

I understand why my global handle was changed from MODOK to GenericHandle1234, but to change the handle and NOT give me the ability to change it to something else is really poor policy execution.

When a toon is genericed, the toon also recieves a name change token.

I have sent 4 petitions and have no in game repkies nor email replies. How do I go about getting a global rename token (I used the 1 free one YEARS ago. I have already tried Menu/Chat Handle and there is no "rename button" and I have already tired /changeglobal name or w/r the cmd it)

How do i contact customer service to get this fixed if I cannot get a global rename tonken?

The PlayNC help section states that once the free one is used "After this option is used, the NCsoft Support Team will not be able to rename this handle and the selected global chat handle will remain."

This will not work for me. Not at all.

Check your email, at least used to they'd send you an email asking for you to pick a few alternative names to go with. Also, make sure the email address on your PlayNC account is accurate.

If it works the same as other genericings, then you should have received an email with instructions at the email address you used to start your NCSoft account.

If you can't access this account, or you have a spam filter or something blocking emails from NCSoft, then access your NCSoft account and you can view or update your petitions from the support page.

Yea, been checking both the email I have with PlayNC and an old email addy I had on file with them. Strange thing is that I havent gotten any auto-emails that are typically sent when a petition is sent in.

If they gave us 100 global name changes, I don't have any. As I said, only the OK button appears. Maybe mine is buggy? Maybe they suspended my other ones?

W/e the case may be, some information on how to change it to something else would have been really helpful from the gm that genericed me.

Go to the my stuff tab. Use the email address on your account to login. That should allow you to see what they have said regarding the petition if you aren't receiving email or game updates.

"Thank you for contacting the City of Heroes Support Team. I am escalating your petition to a Senior Customer Support Representative to further assist you. Please be aware, however, that there may be a delay in reviewing the issue, based on ticket volume at the time your ticket was submitted."

Its gonna be a long day. Thanks again

They have a ton on their plates already seeing as how I15 released yesterday. It'll probably take 3-4 days.

That's a canned response MODOG. Personally, I've had really good results with Customer Service, just remember, depending on your physical location, there may be a huge difference in time zones. If it's an issue with your account (which your global may fall under) it's likely coming out of Seattle.

Be patient, and remember, place any replied between the two green lines of text in their email. (Found that out on my first contact with them.)

And remember, it's against forum rules to post communications with CS here.

I don't want to be quoted on this yet (since I am now on a quest to find out for sure), but it would seem that if a public domain work is performed without any significant modifications, then that performance most likely would not be protected.

After all, unless there is some meta-data that has not been stripped out of a recording of a performance, how would anyone truly be able to tell whether or not it was performed by generic orchestra A or generic orchestra B, if the performance was note for note as per the original arrangement?

Time to post a question to the U.S. Copyright and Trademarks Office I guess.

[/ QUOTE ] It is my understanding that specific recordings and performances are protected under IP law. Let's say Hey Jude by the Beatles at some point comes into the public domain. If Random Band A does a perfect cover of the song on one of their albums they do own that version, but only their version.

Thanks a lot. Now I have Hey Jude stuck in my head (specifically the spastic screamy part at the end).
