Because the half a dozen times I've done this it is nearly impossible to get everyone to click simultaneously. We've tried syncing to the countdown timer as well as "3, 2, 1, NOW!" in team chat. Always seems to take 3 or 4 tries before the group is successful.

Plus if anyone gets bored and quits the Trial before the click phase, it ends up being a waste of time.

I've been doing random runs of this trial on Freedom every once in a while. I've got it down to only about 6 or 7 minutes.. but I admit the average is closer to 9. That's usually when I run into the problem Father described above. haha

Quick Walkthrough: <Extreme spoiler warning!>
Get somebody with Stealth/SS/TP and have them rush to the mission door and TP the rest of the team.

Go inside the mission and the same person goes down each of the 8 trails, TPing the next team member to a glowie. (If there are 2 people who can TP, you only need to go down the left 4 tunnels while the other person takes the right side).

If there is a mob guarding a glowie.. don't worry.. You only have to be within LoS in order to click it. You don't even have to be close to it at all. Then like Father said, it's only a matter of getting everybody to click at the same time.

Then.. rush to the main door you just unlocked and skip right past the boss and TP the team there to save "Sam".

"TF complete" in 6 minutes with only 3 total kills. lol

Then feel free to take down the Boss, then possibly go after the Magma Lords in the main room for the badge. Total time after killing the Bosses.. maybe 20 minutes tops.

Use the Mission Timer.

At 25:54 the team leader says "click at 25:20". When you see 25:20 on your mission timer (synchronized by the Server), you click along with everyone else. Simple.

Actually you just need proximity, not even line of sight. In the Virgil Tarikoss Strike Force (Cap au Diable), which uses the same map, I've used fly to get at Glowies that were almost surrounded by mobs. There's one where the Glowie is at the edge of a cliff reaching back over lava at the end of one of the tunnels. I just go to the end of the tunnel in Stealth, float under the edge of the cliff, and click the glowie while they can't see me.

As for proximity.. I haven't found any distance that it doesn't work at. You have me curious about it now though. I think I'll try to measure it one of these days and find out.

Yeah, I think you overestimate the ability of CoH players to A) follow instructions or B) read. I was on one of these that took something like 20 minutes to complete after everyone was in place at the glowies. One person jumped the gun like 5 times in a row; it was so bad I was beginning to suspect they were griefing us.

Another person kept moving around after they were in place, aggroing mobs and getting killed, which meant the they'd have to travel back from the hospital (at that time in AP) and then the stealth porter would have to get them back in position. After that the moron with poor impulse control would click the glowie too soon, then the jitterbug would get killed and the cycle would start all over.

While the range is extreme for a glowie, you can be within LOS and still not be able to click it.

That's pretty much the reason why I don't try to do the Cavern trial with strangers. The only successful runs I've been on... were with my main SG.

Even then, it's tricky. The group I hang out with is big enough that we can muster enough folks to do regular 8-player TFs and trials, but also small and close-knit enough that we know nobody's gonna do something stupid.

A small SG or group of friends...might not have enough manpower. A really large SG...is actually not much better than a bunch of strangers; you can't be sure everyone on the team is trustworthy.

That's why I think the Cavern is a spectacularly badly designed trial; you need a full team of people all on the same page and doing their jobs.

There's other content in CoH which requires eight players to start. But you don't need eight players to finish those TFs. The Cavern requires it.

There's another way to "avoid" messing up the sync if you have, I think, System Messages enabled in one of your chat tabs. You can see when someone on your team has clicked one of the glowies and you can follow suit. You'd just have to explain to everyone else about that channel for that method to work.

Read what is typewritten: "It's not really LoS to your character...just LoS to your "camera", so you'll be able to actually click it."

The glowies in the CoTTrial are bugged in that you *can* do long distance clicking. I've bugged it long ago, and I doubt it's been fixed.

I read what was said. Read what I said. You can be within line of sight, camera or otherwise, and still not be able to click it if you are far enough away. There is a limited to the range you can click it from. It is extreme but there is a limit.

Unless it's changed from the last I've tried it, I was able to click them from as far as I could get from them and still be in LoS.

[/ QUOTE ]
Then you didn't stand far enough away. Please note, some of the tunnels are very twisty and you can't get very far away and still see the obelisk. In some tunnels, you CAN easily get far enough away that you can't click it.

I never thought to measure it. Let's see.... If I had a teammate set as a waypoint and they stood at the obelisk, I could get a distance reading. (Gyrations necessary in the absence of a map.)
