Is there any reason to go /Energy yet?

Looking over the test forums I only find reference to /Psi getting a buff to it's AoE (as if it needed it), but no reference to any changes to /Energy.

Wow you may want to re-read those notes again. I think you missed a few things. Psi had its hardest hitting AoE cut in 1/2 with increased endurance and recharge times. In fact doms AoE's across the board got dinged. Energy got seriously buffed.

The only power in /NRG that did not get buffed was Power Boost. Power Push got Bone Smasher's old damage values (1.64). Bone Smasher and Power Blast both got bumped up to Power Burst's old tier. Whirling Hands has Footstomp's range (damage is almost unchanged, Scale 1.1 instead of 1.0), and Power Burst received Sniper Blast's old damage values (SB got bumped up to Total Focus damage). Total Focus even does more damage.

Power Bolt got buffed to Power Blast's old tier (1.32), but was rolled back to normal to give /NRG one filler attack for finishing weak mobs.

I found the thread where they list all the changes. I see they also upped the endurance and recharge hugely. But at least energy should now be a proper burst oriented set.

I don't understand the whirling hands change. It's not an animation that should have more range, and since it's the only AOE you get it would make more sense to give it more more damage but with the same range.

Hell, what they should really do is give whirling hands knockdown. That would give energy some breathing room while waiting for everything to recharge, and would fit with the animation more IMO.

They seem to want to standardize all of the PBAOEs rather than trying to make them unique.

It's fine with me. I'm certainly happy with the changes.

It makes balancing a lot less of a headache, at least. It seems like a lot of the sets were just randomly hacked together when they were made.

Active (Freedom): Setna (Ice/Psi Dom), Arram (WP/KM Tank), Tesmiel (Elec/SS Tank), Astredax (Robot/Dark Mastermind), Operative Vidali (melee fortunata)

Retired (Virtue): Gaav (Inv/EM Tank), Baqra (Fire/SS Tank)

I'm not sure of the math, but I assume the energy is gaining a net increase in damage output after all this?
I'm curious as to how much fo a percentage they actually get buffed and how the numbers will run out compared with the other sets, because everyone is getting buffed out of domination.

All the sets are getting a net increase in damage except for ice and maybe psi (arguably). Of all the sets, ice assault seems to be the only one almost entirely on the line with the new vision of doms. This is on top of the +damage doms are getting globally. Doms will, instead of being defender level damage, somewhere around corruptors or higher depending on sets chosen. /energy seems to be the one getting the most love though. /electric is being made into the fast hitting melee set while /energy seems more the slow heavy hitter. Which is better damage wise over all is questionable since electric has buildup and energy has power boost.

Speaking of power boost. I love this power. Just got it on my earth/energy dom. Power Boost + Domination = crazy mezzes.

Also, all of /energy's ranged attacks have a knockback component making them fodder for the Force Feedback's +recharge proc. +recharge proc, power boost, domination, melee attacks with stun components.... If there is such thing as too much control an /energy dom has it.

So, yes OP, there is a Santa Clause. And he brought us /energy for being good little villains.

The FF+rchx proc used to be awesome back when it was broken. I had it slotted in all of /energy 3 ST attacks. When they fixed it though it seemed like it became teh suck and I took them out. Do you think it is worthwhile now and have you slotted it?

The FF proc still works very well in AoE powers, as it has a chance to proc for every critter you hit.

But I wouldnt slot it on single target powers. I have much better to do with those 6 slots usually, like capping the range defense for squishies for example

Just tested my retired Grav/Ener, and Energy is far, far better that it used to be. Arachnoid Bosses used to give me fits, but not anymore!

What's nice about a soft-capped Grav Dom (38% S/L Defense; 45% Power Boosted) is Singy does all the controlling for you and you just go in and attack 100% of the time.

Nice!

Roll Energy. Roll Energy nao!

QFT.

Of course, Blaster Secondaries are much worse. But while the CoV devs had at least an outline in mind, they were trying to stitch together differering Power Sets that themselves had some variation. (Such as Electric having VS instead of a Burst)

Really?

I expected it for /Psi but I think all the other ones already did crappy AoE damage. They made AoE worse, AND made endurance costs more?

Woof.

I'm kinda glad my 2 main Doms are 50 (retired) already and that I havent played my half-dozen or so level 35-42 range Doms in *just* long enough that maybe I'll forget and therefore have no mental comparison when I take the AT back up again (when I15 comes out).

This makes me sad that I rerolled my Grav / Energy Dominator in Issue 12 to Grav / Electric.

Energy used to be an insanely good set in the lower levels (like 2-7), then somewhere around 10 or so it became an absolute joke of a set... I really hate that I'm going to have to roll Energy yet again!

Sure, my Plant/Psi dom is gonna need a major respec, but at least now I won't feel like I only have 2 powers from Psi Assault (Drain Psyche and PSW), so I'll be happy with counting it as a net win even for that characters (my Fire/Fire has needed an excuse for a respec for quite a while).

This is definitely exciting. I was feeling quite inadequate on my plant/nrg. If it weren't for Seeds of Confusion and my undying love for Power Boost, I might have deleted the toon.
