Resist Smash/Lethal

Quick question, whats the highest anyone has been able to get the Smash/Lethal Resist in a Invul Brute?

I'm presently sat at 71%...

Posted

Looking in Mid's with RPD, Temp Invuln, and Tough it shows 75.4% with 3 Resist IO's in each. That is pretty close to it since there aren't very many +resist IO's out there. There is one for +3 that is a PVP set, but it is very expensive. I am at work so can't get in game to check actual numbers to see how close Mid's is.

I'm at 65.7 on my Electrical Brute.

Two PvP Melee IOs and a Shield Wall + Resist got me +6.03 resist S/L. I'm at 59 percent boost to Charged armor (3 titanium coatings and 3 steadfasts for the hit point bonuses) and about 57.5 from Tough.

The Melee PvP IOs give 1.89 s/l for slotting 5 in PvE.

If you get a Patron Pet you can get 2.5 lethal resist for 4 Edict of the Master.

I think one of the taunt sets (Mocking Beratement/Perfect Zinger?) gives either defense or resist to S/L... can't remember which.

If you slot 4 Kinetic Crash you can get 2.5 smashing resist.

You can get a laughably bad .75 s/l resist from 4 Air Burst targeted AoE set.

Am I missing anything? (I know Panacea gives 1.58 s/l for 2, but only in PvP... darn you diminishing returns!).

Thank you, City of Heroes, for giving me a superhero social network combined with amazingly smooth game play. Petitions signed with realistic expectations.

I came up with 85.8% smashing/78.3% lethal by using those sets.

3 resist IO's in RPD, Temp Invuln, and Tough
3 kinetic crashes in Kick, KoB, Hurl, and Spirit Shark
4 edict of the masters in Summon Gaurdian
4 air bursts in Arctic Breath and Bile Spray

That would get you close to the cap, but is it worth it.

edit: forgot the +3% resist PvP IO, so it would be 88.8% smashing/81.3 lethal

I think it is more efficient to work on s/l defense, you can get high level of mitigation with both resistance and defense.

At present I have the following;

Def:
Smashing 47.4%
Lethal 47.4%
Melee 24.1%
Ranged 17.5%
AoE 14.4%

Resist:
Smashing 71%
Lethal 71%

My Brute is Fire/Invul, so wonder if anyone can improve on those figures? Will post my present build if people want to have a look and see were to improve.

If you really love defense, you can take a look at the build below and see if it is too hilarious. The build is tight, and I've to do something that I don't really like, but it should be quite affordable. I love the sharks, you can always swap it with something similar.

Edit: On second thought, don't be too serious about my posted build. It is potentially terrible.

Very nice Belata Cardas. I went a slightly differnet way with my Ss/invul brute. Hit 5 kinetic combats and 5 sets of 3 Ageis.

I pull down

71.74 resist lethal/smashing

Def S/L 38.56( not including Invic)
Fire/cold=35.43 " "
neg/erg 24.81 " "
psi 13.92( clearly range, melle, aoe is better)

Ranged 18.29, melee 23.29, aoe 2173.

Devilprince.

I also grabed Soul master for gloom, Dark Oblit and darkest night.

That insanely expensive +3 percent resist PvP IO scales to AT... so brutes only get 2.25 resist to all from it.

I agree. OP asked what the max resist could be and I took it as a math problem. It is definitely better to go for more defense as it is cheaper and Invuln as a set has both already. Layered mitigation is always better IMO.

Gone for both types for the layered approach which you recommend Just trying to see if can get anything else into resist, to give it that little bit extra. I would work on positional def where possible, hence why gone for Melee def first as going to be in that situatio more often than not...

Thanks for the feed back so far folks

I think invincibility offers typed defense rather than positional defense. So, it's easier to cap typed defense. As you can see from my build above, you can nearly soft cap all typed defense but psionics.

Unless you're automatically hit by those cheating Nictus on the ITF...

oops, MT.

Yea, Invincibility and Tough Hide does not give anything to melee, ranged and AoE. Really makes it tough for invul to go with the positional. Its the reason why I went for the Typed Def. It stacks nicely. So with invul you can get 25-35 resistance to Fire/cold/Neg/Eng/Toxic w/ really nice typed defence to boot. Defensive with 1 mob engaged is 45.45 l/s, 42.32 Fire/cold and 31.70 neg/eng. With Invul Saturated and Soul Mastery debuff is a over kill but hey.

Nice thing about going with high positional is you get that against psi. I rely on the positional and darkest night for Psi and they are trival.

Devilprince.

79.68% S/L Res

Nice. Is that 79.68 just with IO's or are you adding in Day job and Vet Pet?

Nah. Used 3x sets of Gladiator Strikes with Shield Wall Proc +Res.

Maybe not the most preferred way but I'm satisfied with it.

A friend of mine is building his for defense with his final build at 70ish% S/L Res. He's nearly done and we'll prob see how it turns out.
