I wouldn't know as I always 1 star Defeat All containing arcs. That's a hint.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's pretty idiotic, really, considering a ton of maps have 12-8 spawn points or less for mobs. If that's too much for you to handle on occasion...

I 0 star them ...

That's pretty sad, but whatever floats your boat I guess. If that's what you have to do to get your kicks in game, well, I suppose you gotta do what you gotta do.

Yeah, it's sad ... I cry every time I give out a 0 star vote .....

I used to be annoyed at your avatar and location-someone who zero-stars arcs like that, for example, would never be taken on board the tardis by the Doctor. I just realized that it's not only companions who have been aboard. so have the Sontarans, for example. You're a villain, not a companion.

Riiight .. Because it's impossible for someone who plays CoH to like doctor who.
So... you are in this room (the last room) in an Arachnos base where there's a big flyer. You may know the one I'm talking about. The super powerful ally you have with you sez "Let's defeat all in this room so that nobody sees me fly this thing out of here." [edit add: there is a lot more to the plot than this but you get the idea... the guy doesn't want to be seen leaving]. And you and the super powerful ally quickly and efficiently do a mop up job... mission end.
Of course, this particular arc is stuck in four star land with less than ten plays (due largely to me having no in game friends and my own distaste at promotion... but that is beside the point). The point is, I think you can do the defeat all in the last room thing that's not really a pain and makes sense.
Unfortunately, all arc mission descriptions only say "Defeat All Enemies"... there is no distinction for the last room [edit add: until you enter the mission where you do receive the defeat all in last room proviso]. So, knowing that the flag is an automatic "pass up" to many, my arc's obscurity is all but assured (which is fine with me, just wanted to demo the defeat all thing could be done...but you may not want to regardless).
One man's terrorist is another man's freedom (or freem?) fighter; just as one man's exploit is another man's feature.
If you have a super-powerful ally that's probably more of a turnoff than a "defeat all in last room" objective.
Although the reasoning for defeating all is again, sound.
Anything that essentially boils down to "leave no witnesses" justifies a defeat all in my opinion. It's up to the author to make the defeat all as painless as possible.

I have yet to encounter an arc where *not* using a defeat all would have at all hurt the suspense of disbelief.
I don't rate down an arc specifically for defeat alls (Although if they end up making the arc less enjoyable its rating may suffer for that), but I really see no reason authors should be using them, they've added nothing to the gameplay experience or the story in all the times I've encountered them both in MA and in Dev content.

I would advise only to use Defeat Alls on Small Maps and not anything larger.
Has anyone managed to get the "Defeat all enemies in final room" option to work? I tried it on maps with a very clear front, middle and back, and the objective refused to complete until I'd pretty much cleared the map.

Try Mission 4 of The Audition. Not using a defeat all in that mission would definitely hurt the suspension of disbelief.

It has worked on my one mission okay. You may have run into something that happens to me on occasion in regular missions. If a patrol spawns in the final room, it is included in the mobs you have to defeat to complete the mission. But since they are patrols, they can wander off and if you miss them, you can empty the final room and wonder why it didn't end. That is why you want to be sure any patrols you set are for mid or front spawning, but even that does not always work.

Another thing is that if you have a required boss in that last room as well, defeating them often overrides the "Defeat All in Last Room" part.
I used a defeat all on a small map because there were several objectives and the nav bar was several lines long. Since it was nearly impossible to complete the mission without defeating all, I figured it wouldn't hurt to make it a defeat all and get rid of the mess in the nav area.
But in general, I'd avoid defeat alls, especially on maps where mobs can get lost behind lots of junk -- in the CoT caves and warehouses, in particular.
I have not had a problem getting defeat all in final room to work inoffice buildings... but caves and such and outdoors
Well, outdoors there is no final room for them to defeat. It is all one big room, with no back, front, or middle. So you can't really have a final room.

In one of my arcs, player heroes working with the PPD get word that villains have overrun a nearby office searching for a particular person. I could have made a captive rescue the mission complete criteria, but would heroes (and the police) simply arrest one group or room full of bad guys and leave the office workers to deal with the rest?

Likewise, if the Midnight Club has been overrun by villains and have already defeated the Midnighters inside, why shouldn't you defeat all of the villains?
