Dumb question time - why tailor fees?

They have done costume tokens for events.

The biggest one I can recall is the only time I can remember us only getting a flat amount of tokens, independent of the number of costume slots.

We got two for the Golden Age party.

No, he means there was a free costume token handed out to everyone during the Christmas and Valentines events. It wasn't part of a mission or something.

[/ QUOTE ]

I know what he meant, but he's wrong. If the Tailor tokens were given as part of the event they would be listed in the event details on Paragonwiki. There are no Tailor tokens listed as a bonus for any of the past events.

And even if they did give out free Tailor sessions for the events like he said, that wouldn't help when you have to change back to your regular costume when the event is over.

My suggestion would.

Most likely, those tokens are from when Issues are released at around the same time as game events. Updates with major costume changes, especially to existing pieces, almost always come with a token.

[/ QUOTE ] Like I said above.. that was 2 weeks after i13 came out..

I guess I was wrong to assume it was related to any costume bugs, but maybe because so many people were wondering where their freespecs were after i13, the Devs wrapped it all up into a holiday gift to make people happy.

Either way, that's still only one free session for that time period.. just like I said.

And I still don't think we got one on Valentine's this year either. Maybe last year when the Wedding Pack was released... I'm not quite sure.

Also, I think I can safely guess we'll be getting another one soon.. seeing how they are adding about 20 new character faces, and a couple more costume themes with i15.

To clarify, I never said the tokens were specifically part of the Winter event. I said "at holiday-time". For most purposes "at holiday-time" means roughly the stretch from Thanksgiving to New Year's Day, including Christmas, Kwanzaa (sp?) Hanuka (again, sp?) the Winter Solstice, and New Years. My original post:

[ QUOTE ]
iirc, they last gave free costume tokens at holiday-time. They usually give them out then so people can make costumes using the Santa hat, etc.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't believe there was a costume token given around the Valentine's event... I don't remember one, and I didn't find any evidence that the devs handed one out. I didn't intend to suggest that with my earlier post at all.

I also didn't intend my little two sentence post to generate controversy. But I guess people will jump on you for anything in these forums, even when you're right.

[/ QUOTE ] Well you did say "They usually give them out..." which makes it sound like it was some kind of a trend.. which it isn't. But that's not a big deal. I was mainly referring to Golden_Avariel's post anyway...

He mentioned getting 4 separate free sessions granted during this year's holiday season, which was also wrong. I didn't mean to imply that YOU implied the free session at Valentines.. Golden_Avariel's made a personal interpretation of your post, to which I was originally replying to... not yours directly.

The only reason I quoted your last post was because the link you provided supported what I had previously said. I wasn't trying to argue with your two sentence post.

I havent payed a tailor fee in a very long time. I think i have some where like 10-15 free coupons on most of my toons

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

I've got no beef with you, Mateo6. Sorry if it sounded that way. My beef is with people who flat out say that I am "wrong" about something when I am in fact "right", as another certain party has done twice to me in two different threads in the last week.

But I still maintain that we "usually" get a free costume token during the holiday season. Looking back through the Announcements section of these boards, costume tokens were awarded:

11/30/07
Shortly after 11/28/06
and "soon" "once a bug fix is ready" according to a moderator post on 11/07/2005

That seems pretty consistent to me.

Well, you may be technically right, but it still doesn't prove or disprove that their intent was to have people put on the Stocking Caps for free.

Those dates still coincide with issue releases:
The beginning of December 2008 (Issue 13)
The end of November 2007 (Issue 11)
The end of November 2006 (Issue 8)
The end of October 2005 (Issue 6)

Just sayin... Consistency would have been issuing a Holiday gift at the same time each year, at the beginning of the Holiday event, instead of right after issue releases (before the Winter event even started). There is not enough official information to definitively assume we will get one this year too.

50 free costume changes left... plus with AE... I can make and experiment with costumes all day long... see them in action... then save them to a file and load them up to me...

back in the day, you actually had to spend the inf just to leave the tailor and in a few days hate your costume...

Fees for enhancements and inspirations I understand - they make your characters better. Fees for common IO recipies and for crafting enhancments I understand for the same reason. Even fees for changing your reputation I understand - it can change the way the game plays and how you earn rewards.

But why fees for changing your costume? Other than to cut down on traffic at Icon or the Facemaker, what practical reason is there for tailor fees? Unlike the other things for which fees are charged, changing your costume does not affect the ease with which you are able to play the game, or the rewards you are able to earn. Do costume changes burden the game's software or hardware in some what that makes limiting them desirable?

[/ QUOTE ]

Back when the game was new and the tailors were introduced there was basicly no inventions. So the enhancement stores and icon were basicly the only money sink in the game. I think it is really the only reason, just to have given players soemthing to spend money on at the time.
