Best tanker to farm solo with?

Altoholic is not sarcastic. He (although sometimes I wonder about that) is really and truly convinced that doing anything outside of how it's "suppsoed" to be done is an exploit. It's quite laughable and really pathetic.

Farms are not bad. I farm RWZ on my Fire/SS when I have nothing to do. Yes, I run beck and fourth killing Rikti over and over...O...M.....G!!!!
Farmin is not bad. It is the results of farming that can cause problems. Power leveling to eBay characters, RMT, and that type of stuff. The solution is not to stop farming however, it is to stop these unwanted results.
[/ QUOTE ]
I presented my reasons. Farming was never something the devs meant to happen. They've done what they can to stop it, and it means they must spend time on that instead of expanding on the game.
I can't figure how you mean "only the results are bad". It's like saying jumping of a cliff isn't bad, it's only the resulting impact that's bad. If the results are bad, you don't do it.

This may be true, but the very systems they put in place encourage it, even moreso now that there's "loot" in the game. People will take the fastest path to a reward. If they didn't want people to farm, they'd never have put in badges with absurdly high requirements (yeah, try getting the Empath badge in a reasonable amount of time without farming).

Define to me farming in such a way as it cannot be used to describe the entire game focus for any MMO.
Farming is not only designed into the game, it is the while point of the game. Time = Reward. Efficiently use the time and you get more reward. That is what Farming truly is, and that is not a bad thing.

One tanker build that i have found surprisingly effective at solo farming Cimerorans on the wall is my Invul / Axe tanker.
Capped resistance with Tough ( 90% ) renders Cims harmless and the axes powers Whirling Axe ( 10 targets ), Pendulum ( 5 targets ) kills the romans at a decent pace. Maybe not the fastest farmer but it is very decent and relaxing.

Two AoE's and one cone, Sands of Mu too if you want to count that.
Grab the upper level, jump down, and kill them all.
Most fun I had in game in ages. Found a few missions in AE that are fun though. Seems almost like I4 again in some of them.

I run with an Ice/Fire tank and I LOVE him. With my
ice/fire I have some decent control with WetIce and
I'm never in end trouble with Energy Absorption. I also
enjoy Icicles for some extra PBAoE damage and taunt.
Fire speaks for itself with Combust and Fire Sword Circle.
I also broke into the Pyro Epics and love the Melt Armor
and fire ball, makes for a great big mob solo tank.
To carry you even deeper into start slotting purples

No dice? Your analogy didn't hold up. "No dice" doesn't discount that. If a cause has a poor effect, one should not do it. It's common sense. My example was extreme, but still. If 'only the result are bad', why on Earth would you cause them to begin with?

The point is, when an abuse occurs, there will always be someone to speak out. I have not 'screamed'. I have not posted everywhere 'farm' is mentioned. I made a passing comment and have been bashed for it. My opinions come from 'inside my mind', but the devs working to stop farming is not 'inside my mind'. It's very outside my mind. I am not alone in my opinion.
Outside your mind, there are those of us that think farms are the worst part of the game. The were never meant to happen. They are a shortcut, and they lead to unfortunate consequences (skewing of the market, elimination of badges, banning of story arcs). Just because they do happen doesn't justify them.
What's incredible about all this is, I made a short post with my (frankly, rather dim) opinion of farms. It could easily been ignored. Since I have had to defend this opinion, from those threatens by it. My opinion can't force you to my view. Yet you discount and fight it. The best thing one could have done is ignored it. Your very conviction to discount my words only strengthens my own arguement.

Farming has happened in every MMO and it will happen in every future MMO. Farming is something that should be done at 50 when the game content is exhausted, not when leveling up. Some people like the grind of farming and some do not. But know that the devs have put a lot of tools in the game for what they consider acceptable farming. Tools Such as the flashback system, the Newspapers still working at 50, being able to repeat the TF's even after you outlevel them and still get rewards, etc.
Farming for rescources is actualy a good thing from the developers point of view as it keep people playing the game who otherwise would have quit long ago. The main thing the developers have been going through great pains to stop is Power-Leveling and wholesale abuses of the Risk vs Reward Balance. Most farming I have seen recently involves an 8 Man Team with everyone participating with the goal of getting the Influence to get better IO recipies or the drops for them. Thats an acceptable farm as everyone is taking the risks for the reward.
Powerleveling is something the developers dont want, and when it gets stomped on is when it becomes so noticable that it disrupts the gameplay of other players. An example of Unacceptable farms is the Comm Officer/MEOW farms, they were nurfed due to a combination of Risk vs Reward being unbalanced and the fact that it was the most rapid Powerleveling in the game ever.
Ok, Ill play for now...

I know full well what it is. Play a mission almost to completion (or to completion and restarting for Architect), then reset and do again and again and again. Gaining as much benefit(XP, tickets, badges or what have you) from a single mission as possible.

So again I will ask you to define farming in such a way that it could not be used to describe the basic function of almost all MMOs.

I believe you mean [i[grinding[/i] Enlessly hunting down monsters and such when the regular quests putter out to get to that next part of the game, or that one item you wanted. Grinding is tedious and gets boring quickly(my opinion).
In CoX, we have indoor missions that we can keep to ourselves or invite a team into. It's our own little plot of XP to grind away in. Our own plot of land to farm away on--thus farming. Once one has played it once, they go back and do it again and again. After a while one is no longer playing, they're just going through the motions hoping to get that one thing don't what to wait to get in the long term. More effort is put into the shortcut than playing the game as designed.
now, I don't understand when we get new content, and now a way to MAKE content, so many make farms instead of a well thought out story. (I mean, most farms don't even TRY to make a story or even names--asdasdr? Yes, I've seen asdasdr as a contact.) Now the farms are splayed throughout the architect content. I'm hard pressed to find something that isn't a farm.

Here is where we differ. My definition of farming is the repeated hunting of a group or individual mobs to maximize the potential rewards gained. You are describing an exploit in the form of a farm, not all farms.
Counter example. I run around the RWZ in a nice circle hunting and killing the same groups over and over. This is farming, yet not exploiting.

i have a fire/fire tank that i was gonna try to use as a farm toon. is the SD/SS/Pyre that much better?
[ QUOTE ]
While I understand the "anti-farm" people...how many times do I have to go through the same content over and over and over to get a character to 50?
That being said...I also partially agree AE is ruining the game to an extent. Here is an example. Last night I was in a TF and the leader says he has a guy coming that sounded "new" the guy didnt know what a TF was. Sad.
If you wanna get people away from farming (at least the people who wanna do things other than farm at higher levels) CREATE MORE END GAME CONTENT! Makea REAL raiding systems..make differnt mobs to raid. Instances of raiding...make it for 2, 3, 4 , 5 teams whatever that have to work together. Make them need some kind of strategy to beat the mobs.
What else is there to do at 50? There are only so many times I can do the same ITF, TF etc etc before bordom sets in and I decide...mmm...I saw x with a right handed laser firing with exploding popcorn toon...wonder what it would be like to play one of those. Im tired of the grind...lemme farm one to 50...spend money on it and try it out. So here I go again on a farm...
The other problem I can see is if you need a ton of money for purples, pvp sets, whatever... how do you get that money...farm farm farm (80% of the people anyways) or manipulate the market (i.e. rip people off (ok that may be a TINY BIT extreme so sue me)
IDK what to do...jsut voice my opinion on what I see. I dont think Im wrong...but hey as my wife had told me Ive been wrong 3 MAYBE 400 times this week.
/e takes podium down and walks away

Just wanted to say that this post is pure win on a lot of levels.
"Hi, my name is Ail. I make people sick."
A partial selection from my 50's on Freedom: Ail = Ice/Traps, Luck = Street Justice/Super Reflexes Stalker, Mist = Bane, Pixy = Trick Arrow/Archery, Pure = Gravity/Energy, Smoke = Fire/Fire Dominator
I enjoy a reasonable amount of farming.
My solo farm tank is fire/fire/nothing, as my targets are either Storm Palace brutes or RWZ Rikti, both of which have bosses. (I hate needing padders so I generally stay out of missions. In missions I'd just do battle maiden on my arch/mm.) With bosses in the mix, the extra single target attacks in my chain make fireball not worth the 3 power choices.
For farming,i acctually have to say a Fire/Fire/Pyre Tanker is a notch in the lead.
I used to play a pure fire tanker, and belive me,i could go into a mob ment for 8 players on invinsible and annyalate it.
I never ran accrossed another tanker or scrapper that could deal out the massive AoE damage this tanker can do,and most couldnt even touch the ST damage i could dish out.
Go pure fire.Theres no way from lvl 1-50 that you should ever face plant easly.

To be honest there isn't much left in the game for the vets other than farming so these kinds of discussions are fairly silly.
But this isn't specific to CoH ... eventually all MMOs run out of novel content. Worthwhile recurring content is the bread and butter of a good MMO end game (which can be interpreted as farming *gasp*).
