Returning after 3-4 years!

As the title states, I haven't played CoX for about 3 to 4 years (shortly after the release of CoV), and I have some questions.

I saw some comments to the effect that leveling is easy in this game. Is this true? Last time I played this game, leveling was semi-slow compared to other games, and there was XP debt for dying. Has there been any major changes to leveling since CoV?

My next question, is there any server I should avoid creating my character on (due to it being low pop, etc.)?

That's it for now, thanks!

Welcome back!

Leveling in this game is ridiculously easy. Debt has been reduced further than it had when you were playing, plus now we get "patrol xp" which is basically 1.5 xp for characters who've been logged off. It effectively cancels debt, too.

For servers, it really depends on what you want out of gaming. If you don't want to have a lower pop, seek out Justice, Freedom or Virtue, but be aware that Freedom and Virtue both get capped and locked during high-load events.

MAJOR changes can all be found on the paragonwiki (someone clever will link it shortly) and all the other info on what you might have missed in the meantime is there too.

With the addition of Patrol XP (XP bonus gained by characters for being offline = 1.5 XP when playing) leveling is very easy. Even solo you can almost guarantee a level or two per 2 hour play session (depending upon level). Getting on a team makes XP go even faster.

If you want only the highest population servers go for Freedom or Virtue. All of the servers have a decent population though. With knowledge of the global channels for your server you should have no problem finding teams. I have no trouble finding teams on any of them. Check the server forums and ask about the global channels of your chosen server(s).

Welcome back!

Edit: Paragonwiki has the info you desire.

I'll be the clever one today

Also, I would be remiss if I didn't advocate Triumph as a server. It is not high pop by any means, but there is a decent player group there. Triumph Watch 2.0 and Triumph Watch 2.1 are the big global channels of the server. You should at least give it a go for a night.

Too late.

Thanks for all the responses!

The reason why server pop is important to me is because of my schedule.

Due to the fact that I work 2 PM PST to 11PM PST. My play times are from 10AM-1PM PST and 12AM-3AM PST.

Usually the higher populated the server, the more people that are on during off peak times. At least, that is my theory on it, unless there is an unofficial "off peak hour server"?

Again, thanks for all the prompt responses.

Trying to memeber if there is an unofficial Australasia server...

All you gotta do is sit in Atlas now and get to 50. Then go get ebil in WW. I think that about sums it up these days for most.

I think it was Justice that had a higher percentage?

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

Thanks you two. Couldn't find it on the forums. Wiki FTW as always

Thanks everyone!

It looks like I will be creating my character on the Justice server (I read you can xfer characters for a fee, so if for some reason it doesn't work out, it's nice to know I'm not stuck).

The bad news is (for my employer at least), is that all day I will be trying to decide Hero or Villain, and then archetype, etc.

So many decisions, AHHH!

Try what you like. After 3-4 years you'll find that things just don't play the same way as they did then (there've been lots of changes, both major and minor, since that time).

Yes. Probably best to forget everything you knew and re-learn as you go along. Don't be afraid to look for pointers on the forums.

Make both. Try everything. Play on all servers. I do. 152 characters across all 11 servers and still counting.

Pssst come say hi on the Justice boards we only bite in a good way (wink wink)

You've still got a minimum of 12 slots per server, maximum of 36 each, so ... make whatever it occurs to you to make

Freedom and Virtue are the big-population guys. Whoever "third" is (I hear Infinity a lot), they're pretty distant and it probably swaps around depending on time of day and random whim. The server you logged onto LAST is at the top; after that they show up as least-loaded to most-loaded. So freedom will be at the bottom.

Victory seems to have lots of Europeans, which I don't think helps you [1 AM for you = 10 AM in France? Maybe?] but might.

Big news since issue 6... tough to list. here's three for me:

1. ED. I think you were there for this. purple is dangerous now, everything caps at 95%.

2. Invention system and auction house. A million inf is NOTHING these days- don't be shocked by prices at the auction house (wentworths heroside, black market villainside.) It's like a pinball score- you think you're doing well and someone scores ten times as much. No big deal. Single-origins still work fine, and you can get a full set at level 50 for, like, five million inf. For some IO details, look at my guide in sig.

3. Architect Entertainment. The good: you can make your own missions, you can play something like 80,000 missions made by other people. The bad: Most of those missions suck for one of about 4 reasons. It's a farm (farming is still REALLY common, just like it was in I4), it's proving how kewl the designer is by killing you a lot, it's attempted (and failed) storytelling- illiterate/incoherent/stupid/whatever- or it is accidentally WAY TOO HARD.

I guess,

4. Getting to level 50 in 150 hours is normal now, vs. getting to level 50 in 500 hours (250 spent at level 37+) is normal, with 300 hours being fast. There's a lot of time spent tweaking level 50's these days.

Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.

So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.

For a brief period, people were getting to 50 in 8 hours. When this exploit was fixed, they complained.

Debt has become ridiculously trivial even since I started 2 years ago. There's acually an option to turn off XP gain.

Welcome back. I myself just returned last week from a little over 1yr hiatus (more accurately a forced retirement). My CPU literally caught on fire play CoH one day and I dodnt have the funds to buy a new CPU. But YAY, 1st bonus check and now Im zooming on a new laptop.

I am on Justice as well, seems to be lots of toons there. I haven't really delved too much in the the Architech yet, and Im still waiting on my 1st 50.

Hello my name is James and Im an Altaholic.

PS. I'll be making a new toon tomorrow on Justice (Fire melee/Sheilds Scrapper) if you want to hit me up.
