CoX what are some "skills" involved in this game?
[ QUOTE ]
Completely agree. I find this the same in most mmos: There are people that have absolutely no skill, there are those that always try to find the power level mechanic and wonder why they suck at the game at max lvl, there are those that learn to play the game and never get any better, and there are those that learn to play the game and get better as they learn.
In the traditional Grindfest/Timesink mmos, people think that gear is the way you become good. I'm glad this doesn't persist in COH.
[/ QUOTE ]
It does persist though. Some people seem to think that getting to 50 or fully IOing a build will solve all problems. Simply put, that alone won't solve anything.
Stupid exists for [Vengeance] and [Fallout]. Period.
[ QUOTE ]
Not everyone is running a level 50....at least they weren't tonight when I was running a team.
[/ QUOTE ]
I made no mention of level 50s other than referring to XP debt at that level. Any well-geared team (HOs, IOs, yellows, oranges, purples, pvps) can storm through most of the content at any level w/o really having to worry much about strategy and such. AE only made it that much simpler.
[ QUOTE ]
Try playing on invincible in a police mission in King Row at level 5 and get back to me about how easy you plow through content on the lowest level - and, no, you can't have level 50's along with you. Solo it or run it with a team of level 5s or lower.

Please refer to the last sentence of my post.
[ QUOTE ]
You would almost have to specifically set up certain situations just to be challenged.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's what you're suggesting with soloing radio missions at level 5 on invincible, and you're artifically restricting gameplay of not including level 50s to provide a challenge. Ironically, that may actually not be much of a challenge anyways. One could always pick one of the "defeat boss and guards" radio missions, then rush to the boss and bust out with a tray full of purples (aka god mode).
That's also another thing....inspirations. Even back when my blaster was purely using just SOs, soloing AVs meant absolutely nothing with a tray full of purples and reds. Inspirations drop frequently and super cheap at vendors. People would have to deliberatly not use inspirations to be challenged.
[ QUOTE ]
There is a punishment for debt at level 50 -- your inf is cut in half until you work off the xp debt.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nope, inf isn't cut at all. See for yourself.
Perhaps, you mean when a player is exemplared down and get XP debt. In that case, the player gets no inf at all until the debt is paid off.
It is evident that skill can be easily subsituted by gear in CoH because the entire game, according to the devs, is balanced on SOs. Hypothetically, players wouldn't be able to bull-rush everything with gear if portions of the game were balanced around say..... HOs or IOs, but this wouldn't sit will with the playerbase as a whole.
I see why you are called "Poopy"
The biggest skill many players lack in this game?
The ability to not take themselves or this game so seriously

Seems like this game, or maybe just games in general are some peoples life. They get so pissy and debate so hard it's stinkin' nuts. Never made much sence to me, there are way more important things than games. They are just a fun little time waster/temporary distraction for me, and thats all they should ever be. Unless it is your JOB. That is different.
[ QUOTE ]
Ironically it is an easy game that so many folks are bad at.
[/ QUOTE ]
Reminds me of Pong...

I'm really not that sure that much "skills" are required for this game. Since this game is balanced around SOs, often a well-geared party can just bulldoze through TFs without any consideration for strategy. Things just die so fast, even at the max difficulty setting, that it doesn't matter who's in what position. Also, since XP debt means absolutely nothing once you hit 50, there's really no significant punishment for dying.
You would almost have to specifically set up certain situations just to be challenged.

If this was true, you wouldn't hear nearly as many PuG horror stories.
The game is relatively easy. That doesn't mean you can let your guard down.
