Revamp the stores

I am betting at some point this was probably brought up before but a quick search didn't help and I am in game so here goes.

The stores where we purchase TOs (if anyone does that at all), Dos, and SOs need a little revamping. I'm currently leveling a Blaster who just made 11 level running the Midnighters Club arc in Steel Canyon. At that level he is using a Raptor Pack with a 2 hour limit on available time. As I mentioned he just made 11 level and after training I hit the store to pick up a couple TO accuracy enhancers before I take on the COT rescuing crazy Lady Jane. Of course I discover the lowest level of ANY kind of enhancement I can purchase in Steel is a 15 level. So unless I want to waste several minutes of time and jet fuel I get to forget the enhancements and just go.. I am about 300 yrds from the mission and over half a mile (in each direction) from the Yellow line and a store I can actually use. At 10 level all my contacts, including the one's in the university, are in either Steel or Skyway .. the Dev's designed it that way. So why can't we buy what we need in the zone they send us to?

This is not the only zone this applies to either. Hit level 20 and head to Talos/IP and then make 21 and if you want to purchase a few DOs before making 22 and getting the chance to buy your first SOs and.. you know the answer you have to go back to Steel Canyon because none of the stores sell anything below 25 level enhancement. Just like the situation with my 11 level at level 20 all your contacts, the Midnighter Club arc excluded, are in Talos or Ind. Port.

Then it get's really fun above 30 where suddenly after 29+ levels of defending the city we now have to PROVE we are worthy of the store's business by running a mission before they will sell us anything. Okay like most I generally just accept the mission and then drop it so I can go ahead and buy what I need but there are times where I may not have that option available for a day or two and if I am on a team I can't stop everything JUST to run a mission to earn the right to be enhanced.

It's another one of those little time sinks built into the game to slow us down a bit by forcing us to run here or run there to get something we should be entitled to in the first place and I think they need to add it to the QoL issues that need fixing.

1. If a zone is designed to be used by a player at a certain level then have every store in that zone sell every level of enhancement needed by any player in that range. OBVIOUSLY I am not suggesting that stores in Atlas Park or Steel need to start selling 50 level SOs .. players at that level, unless on 1 specific mission that takes them there, primarily hang out in PI.

2. In Bricks, FF and PI do away with the mission requirement in order to buy enhancements. Realistically it's sort of stupid anyway. A level 32 player that wants to purchase 35s HAS to run missions but by level 37, if they access the zone, players can simply by pass the entire system and go to the RWZ to purchase anything from level 35 to level 50 enhancements of ever type. And in the RWZ there is NO requirement to run some mission before being allowed to buy them.

Okay enough .. I have COT to battle and an insane English woman to TRY and keep alive.

It would be nice for Steel Canyon and Talos shops to start stocking enhancements at a slightly lower level.

For the bricks, FF and PI contact stores, there are some history to them. Back in the old days, SO was the secret uber thing, and it was not supposed to be easily accessible. The intention is that it should take some effort to access the secret of the world and be uber. Now, nobody feel the same about SO anymore, so the contact missions seem a bit stupid. In fact, even the idea of having a secret contact handing out secret SO enhancements to heroes is a little stupid now. The game evolves, and nobody go back to revamp the old stuffs. But maybe it doesn't hurt to leave them there, it's just a couple missions.

You can also get the 35 and higher enhancements from the Midnighters and Cimerora, no mission required. Two more reasons why having those contacts demand you do something for them to get a common goody is a bit silly. You can also buy SOs with merits and tickets, though that arguably requires missions, just not directly.

You do need to do missions to access Midnighters' Club and Cimerora. You don't need to do missions to buy and sell to the stores there once you're inside. So, missions are required but in a different way.

While I'm not necessarily against the idea; I stopped reading as soon as I saw "that we are entitled to". Sick of Entitlement Thinking, personally.

Also tired of people not thinking a smidge ahead to be prepared for some eventualities. No Boy or Girl Scouts amongst Heroes, I guess. Oh well.

As far as the Lower the Levels of available TO's, DO's and SO's available in some zone markets; sure.

True but then again are people doing THOSE missions just to earn the right to buy things or for a variety of other reasons? I run lot of task forces .. trying to get TF Commander on most of my characters (and don't ask how many that is.. let's just leave it at NC Soft won't sell me anymore slots.. 36). I am doing those Task Forces for the Badge, the eventual Accolade, XP (when applicable.. many are backtracking to pick up TFs they missed). Influence, Prestige, IO salvage and recipe drops. The fact that I end up with X number of merits I can turn around and use to purchase enhancements is just an added bonus and actually saves me from spending influence so I have more to buy IO enhancements or whatever.

AE Arcs.. I do for fun and the change of pace. Mostly I run them with friends or I run solo and rate arcs of friends I have made on the MA Arc Finder channel. Tickets are great and I have all but completely outfitted some characters with a new set of SOs using nothing but tickets... yeah for a while there I was running nothing BUT AE mission I am back to established content with a mix of AE these days. But I wasn't running those soley to get tickets and buy anything... okay I lie a bit and take that back until I had EVERY added map, costume and villain available I was running missions to get tickets to buy those LOL BUt NOT to buy enhancements. It's just another bonus.

I can even buy the explanation that at one point SOs were THE most powerful in game and they wanted us to earn them a bit. But as we all know these days IOs have taken that "special" spot as THE best enhancements and I don't have to do anything but show up with influence in hand and I can buy them at Wentworths. If they want to keep a little of the past here's an idea...

Get rid of the 5 different stores scattered over 2 zones (FF and Bricks) and put one store in each that. JUST like PI, sells all types. Then if we HAVE to have a mission to earn them at least everyone has the same mission and let's make it real simply .. If you do that mission in Bricks or FF you can then purchase SO enhancements in either zone.

Of course the other JOKE to this whole thing is that mission in PI. Now exactly how many people actually run around defeating every Rikti on that map? Okay NOW how many go in, find the glowie, and run like heck for the exit? Come on they even MAKE it almost too easy.. the Rikit, aside from a few on the outer edges and in the back, are all up high and the glowie is always on the ground. No matter where it shows up on the map you don't even need stealth to find it, click it and exit without battling a thing. There's a real challenge! LOL

Sorry Ninus but I disagree. First I don't look at it as me being entitled to anything. If I want to buy enhancements at any level I need to go out and run missions to earn the influence to buy them. They set one precident for 29 levels where as long as I have the cash I can buy anything I want and then at 30 ( well 32) all of a sudden I have to run a special mission to get access to the store? Face facts we can start buying SOs at level 22 so realistically even the post about them being "special" doesn't really hold water. If they are SO SPECIAL why don't I need to run a mission at level 22 to get them?

In my opinion, and that's all it is, it all goes back to the days when Stateman ran the place and was certain that as soon as we hit level 50 we were going to get bored and move on to another game. There were so many little traps (so to speak) designed to slow us down it wasn't funny. Case in point..

Until radio missions FINALLY emerged on COH every character had to run everywhere until level 14. AND back then there wasn't nearly as much content so you did almost all the missions any contact would give you.. and if you got real lucky MAYBE 1 or 2 of those were actually in the SAME zone as the contact. We spent more time running back and forth to contacts than we did actually running missions SLOW DOWN. - Done away with when they gave us radios and safeguards now anyone above level 5 can run 3 short missions. a safegaurd and have a Raptor Pack.

Before Wentworths and the entire IO system it wasn't at all uncommon for a player in the 30s to still be using a collection of TOs, DOs and IF they were lucky maybe a few SOs. We didn't have a way to earn enough to buy the good stuff so we could move faster. SLOW DOWN - obviously done away with by the IO and Wentworth sytems. I have 15 levels that already have several million in influence.

A Player hits the 40s and heads of to PI to battle AVs.. where are the majority of his other contacts aside from Tina Macintyre? Founders Falls and back then we had NO ouroborus Portal to get there so.. Hit the Ferry, end up in IP, get to the train, OH yeah I forgot back then the train didn't GO to FF .. Fly, teleport or RUN to FF and hit the contact. SLOW DOWN - Done away with by the Ouroborus portal which allows us to easily get from PI to Founders Falls along with IP, Atlas and Talos

Before the Ouroborus system started BADGERS would live at the debt cap, purposely allowing themsleves to be defeated so they wouldn't outlevel the contact that had a badge mission. In almost every case they'd end up doing that contacts story arc along with a number of individual missions before they ever saw that one for the badge. SLOW DOWN - fixed when we got time travel Not only did it allow us to play however and what ever we wanted and still get those same badges by traveling back in time it added even more badges for running time travel missions.

Oh and trading influence. Remember when the most you could transfer was 9999? Now what is is it? SLOW DOWN - fixed when they finally upped that amount and let us help ourselves and our friends by transferring influence from one character to another faster.

Everyone of these is an issue that someone, a LOT of someones, complained about here on the forums until it became obvious it needed to be fixed and eventually was fixed.

You are telling me that above level 30 having to run a special mission in order to buy enhancements above 30 level doesn't fall into that same category? That I have an Entitlement attitude? OKAY Yeah I do. Especially since, with the RWZ, we now have a way to completely get around that whole system. I can go there and NOT even talk to a contact just head straight to the store and buy anything I need or want. Yeah I think I, and everone else, is entitled to that same treatment anywhere in the game. I didn't go out and battle Rikti to help save the earth in order to buy enhancements there.. I stepped through a portal PERIOD. What makes the difference if I am saving Paragon or the entire earth from Nemesis or the Rikti? If I don't need to earn the right to buy in one place I shouldn't need to earn that same right any place else.

Like I said in my first post Its a Quality of Life thing. Unless you are a PL farmer living day and night in the AE building in Atlas getting to level 50 is enough of a challenge without having to either do without enhancements I need so I can stay of the GOOd team I found. or Asking everyone to stop running the missions we've been doing so we can run one from the store.. Oh and then I'll be holding us up a few more minutes while I buy stuff.

There are vets out there with 60 month badges and who knows how many 50 levels scattered over how many servers? I now have 14 myself on Virtue and just yesterday got my 42 month badge. I think we can safely assume at this point that the vast majority of players are NOT leaving just because they hit 50 with one character so that's it they are done. They have eliminated a LOT of those other issues I think it's time this one went away as well.

I guess I am in a mood tonight I almost forgot the BOY SCOUT comment. SO what are you saying I should REALIZE that at level 32 I am going to need to run that mission and plan ahead some way?

Okay I get on a really good team, 8 players running mission on Invincible, and we are tearing through missions and earning XP like crazy.. in short having fun. ALL of a sudden I find myself at level 32 and want 35 level SOs. DAYS before that I knew that PUG was going to exist and should have gone to the store and RUN that mission so I'd be ready? I see I'm supposed to be able to see into the future now as well

Or maybe I should have sat down and figured out exactly what enhancements I would need at level 32 and had one of my higher level characters buy them for me.. place them in the Enhancement tables at base so I could just run in and grab them at 32. Hmmm oh wait While I can do that at MY base because the tables allow it (thanks to only having a few select friends in the SG that I trust). How many SGs still have their storage bins, of any kind, locked up tight as a drum thanks to some truly HEROIC individuals a few years ago that were joining one SG after another and then stealing everything they could carry from all the storage bins. SO, IF I even have another character in that same SG, I buy them, store them, and then still can't get them because the SG leader isn't on at the moment.

Sorry if I sound a little ticked off but frankly I am. That one LITTLE post you made makes it sound like I am some selfish player running around wanting things handed to me ME ME ME and like I don't even try to plan for things.

All I am suggesting is a change to make everyone's life a little easier and with the way SGs operate today and with no one ever knowing when they may find a good team .. let's face it we have a fairly mature player base, for the most part, and things like Work, School, and Family.. you know REAL LIFE limit play time so even a good static group is never sure if everyone or anyone will be on when they want to play. I just joined a static group this week that plays together every Tuesday at 9PM. It was our first week and the leader (the player that came up with the idea to begin with) had to bow out because her baby was teething or whatever .. The end result was she was the only one that couldn't play that night. So now we are all at level 10 and in order to catch up she has to solo. farm, or find some good PUGS between now and next Tuesday. Okay BOY SCOUT how do we PLAN for that?

whew alright I am done being the crazy blonde. I usually try to keep things light when I am here and maintain a friendly attitude toward everone. Even the people I disagree with I always try to treat with respect when I am disagreeing. You just hit me on, apparently a bad night, and I don't like people ASSUMING anything about me or my motives. I didn't ask for the magic DEV's I win button that defeats everything in the zone .. I asked for Stores to sell me inspirations I can use in zones I am capable of playing in and that I don't need to do some "Special Mission" to earn the right to them. And since NC Soft apparently already must think that's not a completely bad idea or the RWZ store wouldn't be set up the way it is.. I hardly see that as asking too much.

Erm. Fine in theory, but I use the Science store mission to unlock Ouroboros on a regular basis, even if my character isn't Science origin.

Yes, I am aware I could just get someone to open an O Portal for me. But I like doing things for myself whenever possible.

I'd say give us access to the store right away, but don't take the missions away.

Well, at least you got the 'Be Prepared' reference. Reread my post, reread the section of your OP that I alluded to. I stand by my statement on that point alone. You will notice I really don't disagree with you at all. I just made two comments about my personal feelings on the subject which a lot of Suggestions (even my own) are about: selfserving problems we would like to see a fix for. No big whoop though.

And yes, you must be in a mood because this Boy Scout sees where you made a HUGE error. And I will explain it. You guys screwed up, and could have been prepared: here's how.

Static Group... Plays at 9pm Tuesdays. Leader had to bow out on first day of this 'planned' and 'concept driven' (refer to 'Static Group' here) team. Yep. You didn't prepare. The group should ALL be Level Pacted because I take it that you all were at Level 5 or below when you formed this 'Team'. If not then for the first night, it's no big deal. Made it to Level 10 did we? She will have to work about an hour or two to catch you... even if Solo.

I went from Level 0 to Level 10 on first night of CoV Headstart in order to Found my VG on First Day. I worked late that day, and couldn't log in until about 9pm. I founded the VG at about 11pm, and that was while writing out all the mission text for each mission for my CoV DataBase. I did it all on Level 1 Villainous, Solo. I really don't see your problem, and if she gets called away next time; what will she do? Doesn't sound like she can devote the requisite time to such a concept team, eh? If you have an even number of players; Level Pacting them all would save you the headaches that are just around the corner for you, boss. Your 'static team' is already in trouble, and you could have been prepared for it.

Not all things can be prepared for, but this one could have been. I really didn't want to sound snarky, but you lobbed me a wiffle ball; I had to put it over the center field wall.

To reiterate, I really don't disagree with your suggestion. Only some of the arguments you used to make it.

BTW, I'd rebuild your 'static team' as I suggested so that even if one or two people have to miss a night; the team will not get too spread out in levels. Just a suggestion, and at your present level; not a big deal IMHO.

Have fun, though.

Just a quick reply IRT when SO's can be bought.

Blue side SO's can be bought at lvl 10. Well... ok, it depends on your origin which one you can buy, and you have to do a number of missions to get access (or have a character that has the badge). But... Mr. Yin's Store sells level 13, 17, and 21 to anyone with the rescuer badge.

I know some people say they aren't worth the effort. I normally play scrappers and having all my powers slotted with DAM SO's at level 10 is really nice.

At the very least, I'll sign off on having lower level enhancements in some of those stores. The OP is right. I "graduate" to Talos or Steel or Indy Port, and find that I can't slot anything I buy there. It's always been an annoyance. Just having them stock a lower tier of enhancements would solve that annoyance.
