hi guys,

so i'm level 4 now and my first contact can't give me any more missions, and the second contact he pointed me to is in another zone. And it looks like i can't travel out of my zone yet. Is it normal that you can only do a few missions in the first zone or am i missing something?

I'm guessing your contact sent you to Dave Wincott in The Hollows, since you can't get into that zone until you are level 5. You can "street sweep," that is, fight muggers on the street until you are level 5 and then go see Wincott. Word of warning - his missions are rather difficult at level 5, and you DON'T have to run them. It is enough to talk to him and decline his first mission to satisfy whoever sent you to him.

It's unusual that your first contact didn't send you to see someone in Kings Row, especially since I don't think anyone sends you to Wincott until you're already level 5. If they did send you to Kings Row, you can get there by jumping on the Yellow line train - there's no minimum level restriction for KR.

Once you're in KR you can also go see the detective at the Police Station - he'll be highlighted on your map. He will give you a police scanner you can use to run non-story arc missions. Once you run three of them, he will give you a mission to protect the Atlas Park bank from a robbery. If you successfully stop the robbery, you'll get a jet pack that allows you to fly, and the detective will introduce you to yet another new contact.

Note: you have to be between level 5 and 10 to get the jet pack. You can do these same kinds of missions for detectives in other zones - Steel Canyon, Skyway City, Talos Island, etc. and every five levels (11-15, 16-20, 21-25, etc.) you'll get a different temporary power for stopping the robbery.

There's no reason you can't travel out of your starting zone. Just take the Yellow Line tram. Go into the main entrance to the tram (not the exit-only on the right), and click on the tram doors when they are open. Then, select the other zone you want to go to.

Just remember that there is an entrance area and an exit area, which are separate.

Ah, I think I see the dilemma. If my guess is correct you have been sent to a contact in Kings Row, but were unaware of being able to use the train to get there. Since 2 of the gates are to level restricted zones you came to the conclusion that you couldn't leave the zone yet. Or a previous poster was correct and you were sent to see David Wincott in the Hollows. His missions are anywhere from easy to challenging depending on what AT you are playing as, but you don't have to run them if you don't want to. I suggest running the Hollows arc at least once though, it's the first example of a storyline that covers a whole zone and doesn't leave it.

FYI, any time a gate on the map is red you have to be a certain level to enter, if it is green you can enter at any level. Be aware though, many times the enemies on the streets in a different zone will be much higher than you if you are a low level.

My advice to solve the problem here: kill some stuff on the street until you hit level 5. Probably the easiest solution for you, since I don't know the exact details of your situation.

Usually your first contact will give you 5 or 6 missions before sending you somewhere else. Generally that is just to get you started on your way, as the first zone is levels 1-6. You will be coming back there periodically throughout your career for different things that open up later.

Street sweep until you are level 5 and then go to the Hollows to talk to Wincott. But, don't do any of Wincott's missions until you are level 7 because that's the average level of the hunt missions he'll send you on... doing it two levels under the level of your foes at level 5 is very painful.

So, street sweep 'til you hit level 5. See Wincott, but don't take any missions from him. Go back to your contact.

Or... drop the mission to see Wincott.

When you hit level 5, go to Kings Row and a Detective will be added to your Contact List Window. Go to see that Detective. That will unlock the Police Scanner which will now appear in your Contact List Window. Click on the Scanner to get a Police Scanner mission. Do three of them and that will fill up the Detective's confidence bar. Go back to the Detective who will give you a Safeguard Mission (stop a back robbery). If you do that successfully, you'll get a Temp Fly power. And whether or not you were successful, the Detective will introduce you to a new contact.

Don't forget that at level 7 or 8 to go back to the Hollows and do Wincott's arc. The four contacts in the Hollows tell an overarching story and doing mission in one zone is easier than the contacts of Kings Row, Steel Canyon, and Skyway who send you all over creation on their arcs.

Actually, you're supposed to be able to click on them at any time...though, for some reason, for me, when they're open is when I -CAN'T- click on them...

Lol - I've been waiting 5 years for 'them' to get the timing right on the tram doors - bet I'm waiting another 5 (if my god spares me) before they do.

@OP as those before me have said. You won't be able to access The Hollows before lvl 5 and the advice you have been given to go to Kings Row to do stuff from your Radio Mission contact in order to gain a couple of levels before going to the hollows is sound. The radio missions and the subsequent reward of a temp travel power (flight) will help you no end (scuse pun) to get about The Hollows safely.

Good luck on your travels.

What is the name of the contact you are pointed to?

I'd like to add one thing, in case it wasn't clear (it certainly wasn't clear to me when I started playing this game last January).

A lot of contacts will send you to talk to someone else in a different zone--the first time it may be Dave Wincott in the Hollows, later contacts will often send you to see the liason officers for a PVP zone or the security officers for a hazard zone. Now, here is where it confused me: I thought this meant the contact had no missions for me. After all, if he/she had something for me to do, why send me to someone else, right?

Wrong. I missed out on a lot of early missions because of this assumption. The "talk to someone else in another zone" is sort of a mini mission in itself. Once you talk to the person they send you to, you can come back and the contact will usually have more missions for you, possibly even a whole story arc for you to complete. The point of sending you to other zones is the developers' way of making sure you learn the existence of those other zones and the things you can do there. It doens't meant the contact is trying to get rid of you! It was over a month before I understood this.

Another option now to street sweeping to hit 5 is to do MA missions until 5. That's what i do these days. More fun than randomly killing street thugs and i get a few tickets. (That's just about all i used MA for at pre-50.)
