Heck, my cell phone barely has features people were getting eight years ago and is itself four years old.
.
So what? I don't define myself (or my friends) by the toys I/they own and the features they do or don't have. I buy tools that have the functions I need, not toys that have the features I want (or have been induced to want). (And am capable of distinguishing between needs and wants, much to the frustration of Madison Avenue.)

This.
Having the latest and greatest tech accomplishes what? Bragging rights? I have always been of the mind that those folks should go toot their horn in private (hehe, double entendre, FTW).
well having the latest and greatest tech usually makes life a little easier, i mean where would we be without the wheel, electricity, running water, or nacho cheese dispensers?
so sure you could live without it, but if you have the means to live with it i'd say go for it.

Those are rather outside, extreme examples (except maybe the cheese dispenser ), especially when compared to a regular old cell phone and a new touch-screen-full-QWERTY-I-can-make-toast cell phone. Neither of which is esential to most people, and the second one that only makes very non-esential functions easier (like texting).
So a friend showed me thier iPhone. Meh! My RAZR is still just a 1st generation and no bells or whistles. It's just a phone.
(gasps from the crowd and the lady in the pink belly tee faints)
Yup, no Texting, no Internet, No reach around from SoCo, just a phone.
Imagine that.

well seeing as i can use my iphone to buy/sell stocks or schedule business meetings/interviews and basically allow me to work even if i happened to be on a lake fishing, or in sweden visiting family, i'd say it has some nice features. with the type of women i meet, using the iphone to sort them has saved my life in more than 1 occasion. so i'm just saying, cellphones regardless of what you may think of them has basically changed how the world works, it means we no longer have to be tied to a location to conduct business or get information. with the advent of smart phones (palm, blackberry, iphone) it makes it quite a bit easier to get/give that information.
so well one person might not at first realize just how life-changing cell phones have been, now they've been upgraded to make your life just a little bit easier.
as far as texting being non-essential, have you ever tried to have a conversation with a deaf person over the phone? that system sucks as you have a relay and everything, with texting its pew pew, theres the message now we see eye to eye.
Hey, get off of the cell phone topic! Can't you see this thread is about threadjacking?
Besides, I like the unlimited data plan on my Blackjack II because it does internet connection sharing over USB and Bluetooth, so I have a semi-fast connection pretty much anywhere. I also spend more time reading on my phone than anything else (yay for ebooks!).
So now we need to lure BAB into the ban thread. Ideas?
it has gone from unconscionable to downright appalling that we have no way of measuring our characters' wetness.

did you get her number at least? i mean you'd want to make sure she was ok from fainting at the bar or cklub several hours later and make sure she is able to make it to sleep ok at about 7am. fainting when hot can be dangerous.

iphone 3gs supports internet tethering, so u can give ur laptop internet connection anywhere too.
as far as books, i like kindle, its an iphone app that lets u buy books and read them and then transfer them to your computer or access them pretty much where-ever you have internet connection.

Tethering costs extra on most plans - as much as the unlimited data plan costs all over again with AT&T; ICS just works without having to enable anything special on the account (above and beyond the data plan, anyway).
ICS may be supported on the iphone as well, I really haven't checked (and don't care) since the phone I have now does everything I need it to and then some, and I don't have quite as much disposable income as I did two years ago when I got my phone.
Also, pie is all crusty and ebil. Cookies are more fun.

What's an iPod? *Still listen to 8 Track.*
[/ QUOTE ]
My first car, that I drove to high school in the early 90s, was a 1978 Mercury Grand Marquis and it had a functioning 8 track player. It was later given to one of my uncles who turned it into a shrimp boat (the car, not the 8 track player.) I've always assumed he did this by simply attaching some nets to it, since it was already fairly boat-like.
Some may wonder..."BABs! What the heck are you posting this for, here in the Guardian forums?"
The answer is, cause some of the people over in Justice are getting all cocky about the number of viewers their section has right now, and I'm proving a point that maybe that has more to do with a link to their section through the dev digest than how awesome Justice is. Don't get me wrong...Justice is awesome. But all the servers are awesome in their own way.
"But BABs...why change the title of the subject line?"
Cause I really want to prove the point. *waves to all the people looking for details about the expansion*
"But BABs...that's cheating!"
Yes.
[/ QUOTE ]
Haha my first car was a 1981 Mercury Grand Marquis. Man those cars were boats. Ah back when gas was under a dollar, and that car could suck gas through the carborator like no bodies business. But driving it really was like riding in a boat, we always joked that it had at least a 8 body trunk if you stacked them...
Mine didn't even have a tape deck, it just had the old FM/AM radio tuner with the big silver knobs. It had originally been my grandfathers. So it smelled like stale pabst blue ribbon and unfiltered pall malls.
It also leaked oil and transmission fluid...
Funnily enough its still up and around back home and on its third high school student. Albeit with a new engine.
I kinda miss that car.
