Beginning blaster help...
You sound like a Fire/Fire at heart, to me. But you can get plenty of "seat of your pants" action with any powerset, really. It's mostly hinged on how you play.
Do you want to be an AoE monster or ST monster?
I would say Energy is a good balence, but don't know how you feel about the KB. I has a good Blastery Monster feel too it, I loved it as my first Blaster, but got accedently deleted off of my account and I went Fire/Fire instead to 50, nothing I would recommend for a beginner.

Honestly I want to be mostly AOE if that helps you guys out... my friend already has a fire/fire at 50 so i wanted to mix things up, so If I did fire/ i would have to switch the secondary.
Not a fan of Blapping truth be told.
I like Fire/Ice for lots of AoE with some controls to keep them in your AoEs.
Did you check out this beginning blaster comparison guide - it's fallen to the second page because it's still being edited:

Well, Fire/Fire is the best route for AoE potency. But Fire/Mental & Fire/Ice can be quite effective and interesting.
Thanks for the quick replies, Ill check out the guide and I appreciate the feedback.
My first 50 was an energy/ice manip blaster and i loved it. Fire is awesome in damage for primary so try a fire/ice manip or even like fire/mental manip i love psy scream welcome to the world of blastys
My miniguide on blasting might help , as far as playstyle.
As far as what you want:
Your big AOE primaries are (I've only run one of these personally) Fire, Archery and Assault Rifle.
Mental has a ranged and a melee AOE. It goes nicely with just about everything.
Remember that you have singletarget attacks to get you through the boring period of time while someone else starts the fight with the rest of the spawn.
Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.
So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.
I got an elec/ice blaster to 50 and seem to be a team fav. Alot of control, and with decent damage coupled with the fact that most bosses lose all of their endurance due my drains makes for fights a bit easier. Wouldn't reccomend soloing with this spec much as the damage output is low, and the first real good ice control power (Ice Patch) doesn't become available untill early mid game, but wow, was I ever excited. Being on the edge of my seat trying to control angry mobs and wear them down... it was quite the trip
Ill vouch for fire/MM, its so destructive!
I'm rolling with an AR/EM blaster. She's at 45 now and loads of fun. If I'm not careful I pull agro real fast, and I can do pretty good solo too. I really just researched the 2 separately so I could learn first about AR/ then /EM. Like its been said, its how you play it.
Fire/ice is da shilznilz!
Arch/MM was, for a time, the AoE monster of choice. I'm not sure if that still holds true. But, you do get cones in both your primary and secondary, and of course the fun of the fast-recharging, crashless nuke.
I've read most of he guides in the forums but I figured I should check with people with real live blaster experience. I want to feel like a monster. I'm not particularly interested in AV soling, but I want to see everything fall before me in short order. I love the ride by the seat of your pants action Blasting gives you and I was wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of something that could accomplish this.
...if Possible prehaps without fire/
