Windows 7

My August Sirs,

These are confusing times Shecky.

The version of Windows 7 I am using is the "upgrade from Vista and oh by the way XP too" version.

The instructions talk about formating the partition before instalation for XP and use the 'custom' option, which I did on my initial trial, but that resulted in a build which was unable to handle COH launch screens. By rebuilding a latest and greatest XP first and upgrading from that (which the Windows 7 install package did without a hick-up) I was able to run the launch screen, software update, launch COH, and join the game with the HIGH/low UI issues stated earlier.

Then I loaded my security software and tryed COH again, the COH launch worked, it forced a new software download, but during the load of COH I got a black screen.

My problem is in the intereaction of my secruity software, by Computer Associates, and the current version of the game. When I uninstalled the CA software... everything was perfect.

So your work is done with this issue in this thread. Do we get XP points? Oh I cant believe I pun'ed that.

Since you don't mention it specifically, did you upgrade your video drivers? The ones included with Windows 7 cause various problems launching the game.

Download the Windows 7 drivers from the manufacturer's website and install those to see if it helps resolve your problems.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

Same.
The "upgrade" from XP went completely smoothly, and nary a reference was made to the previous OS.
The Custom Install resulted in a complete wipe and installation of the new OS.

My August Sir,

Yes I have a nVidia 8800 GTX and I make sure that baby gets fed from nVidia right after the MOBO gets updated.

By the way, I tested Microsoft Secuty Essecials and AVG Free with the COH - Windows 7 combination. They worked great, What problem? However, Computer Associates dosen't.

Just to clarify, Microsoft Security Essentials is an AV/Malware/Spyware software combination. It's not necessary to run AVG as well. In fact, it's pretty much redundant. No need to bloat your system with 2 softwares that do the same thing.

We'll see....

Stranger, my roommate and I both have the same problem, despite not having anything related as far as computers go.

At any rate, my problem is that it can't seem to load any of my characters. It goes really slow after I select one, and then eventually fails. What's really odd is it works fine one time if I uninstall then redownload, but after that one time it then downloads something on my next try, and won't work again. The exact same thing happens to my roommate, even though his computer is a custom-built desktop and mine is an HP laptop. Anyway, just curious if anyone else has a problem like this, or any ideas. I've installed all updates, and new drivers.
I had a similar issue when I upgraded my laptop to Windows 7. It turns out that I got it to work by disabling windows xp compatibility mode in both the coh_updater and City_of_Heroes executables and switching on administrator mode in the properties. Give that a try and see.
