I did another run through Death to Disco! and sent feedback. I like the changes you've made. Feel free to check out either of the following. Teen Phalanx is (IMHO) the more funny of the two, but is a little longer.

I don't think you've ran my one-off arc, "Cat War!" yet. It's #2788. It's not as funny as either of PW's humorous arcs, and it's composed mostly of inside jokes, but what the heck. It's one more rating for me and something for you to do. :-)

I have actually played both of yours before and picked the one it has been the longest since I last played it since I know you make updates often.

Lowdown – Does the kidnapping of a young pseudo celebrity sound like an arc idea ripe for humor? You bet it does! This arc is very well executed and contains humor in just about every aspect it could be inserted into. I especially like how Paris modified her prison garb to look totally hot.

Funny Level – Humorous to Very Humorous

Fun Level - HUUUUUUGGGGGEEEE

Let’s up it to 11! – The paparazzi look way, way too overdressed. I don't think you need the wall breaking "PL me" comment. Maybe use "Can I be like your partner or something?"

Overall Rating – I really liked this humorous, fast, fun arc and you will be happy you played it.

Lowdown – As Citizen_Razor notes this arc was made as an in joke for his brother. Despite that it has so humor in it that anyone that has owned a Cat will appreciate. Also, the customs and their bios contain a few laughs.

Funny Level – Depends on who you are

Fun Level - It was a one shot mish and moved along at a nice pace so it is fun-ish.

Let’s up it to 11! – Hmm, not sure I can comment here not knowing the audience.

Overall Rating – A cute little arc with lots of inside jokes. If you like cats, you will get a kick out of it even if you don't get most of um.

My husband and I played In Poor Taste together over the weekend. I think we played it on my 35 WP/SM tank and his 35 Ice/MM blaster. We both really enjoyed it. I think we both gave it 4 stars. It was very clever and really would have been a 5 stars, but we both felt like Manhandle was the funniest of the bunch, and you sort of "shoot your wad" so to speak, too early in the arc. Personally I would probably move Terrible Wind to the first boss, and save Manhandle for a bit later.

In any case, I hope you'll try both of our arcs below. They're both intended to be humorous.

Title: Tailor Made
Arc ID: 258291
Creator’s Global Name: @anachrodragon
Mission Count: 2
Notes – Designed for villains in the 20s or high teens (will AutoSK to 20). Intended to work both solo and teamed. There are only a couple objectives in the large second mission, but lots of optional stuff to smash, so it can be either quick or long depending on your own pace.

Title: Poi, Demonology, and Everything I Learned From Hellions
Arc ID: 164235
Creator’s Global Name: @londerwost
Mission Count: 2
Notes – Designed for brand new heroes. This was play tested on a level 2 fresh out of Outbreak. It's intended to be something simple and fun for lowbies to get their feet wet with. Also, the second mission was supposed to be on a 45 minute timer, but timed hostage missions are bugged in I15, so it's untimed for now. (Make sure you read the "still busy" text)

While I like Manhandle as well, I personally find the two bosses FF and BS (don't want to say their names and spoil the mish for people who haven't played it yet) in the last mission to be funnier. I still lol at some of their lines and I've played the mish a bunch.

Title:Captain Dynamic, the Great, Faces the Great Face
Arc ID: 190069
Creator’s Global Name: @Aehaed
Mission Count: 3

[/ QUOTE ]

Lowdown – Have you seen the hilarious Captain Dynamic videos? If not you really should watch them before you play this arc to fully understand what is going on and the characters it revolves around. (Just go to YouTube and search on "Captain Dynamic" to easily find them). This arc takes off where episode 3 ends and does a really good job of capturing the overall feel of the videos. It features really neat objective twists, very sharp briefings and the customs are spot on.

Funny Level – Very Humorous

Fun Level - Awesomeness!

Let’s up it to 11! – Many of the non-required glowies have no clue (a good spot for more funny) and no click bar text. Also, it should be in big block letters to watch the related videos.

Overall Rating – You really, really need to watch the videos to fully appreciate this arc which could be seen as a short coming, but I feel it really strengthens the arc.

Thanks Wrong Number! I'm really glad you enjoyed it so much.

I'd toyed with the idea of a loose association with the videos, since opinions of those were mixed, but as I am getting more plays from people who liked the videos, I think I should aim to be more like an interactive "fourth video", and let players make their own judgement as to whether to play or not.

I'll definitely add progress bars, and perhaps Clues, if I can come up with something funny enough to compensate for Clue Clutter

What I am finding is that people have a variety of favorites though Manhandle is the most popular. I wanted to make him the final boss of the arc however there were a few issues with that. First off, remember the nav text for him requires he impart information to the player and that does not really work at the end of the arc. Secondly, I figured I really needed grab (ha!) people's attention right off the bat for them to commit to the premise of the arc. So that is why he was placed first.

As an aside, I also struggled over mentioning Manhandle or any of the bosses in the story description text, but ultimately decided that I had to include him. It came down to 300 characters not being enough space to get the story premise across with out including the name.

Lowdown – The contact for this fun little arc is The Facemaker. She is very well written and has perfect feeling dialog for the character. The first mission is basically a set up for the second and is very short. It could stand a little sprucing up. The second mission, which takes place at an outlet mall is well worth the price of admission. Be sure to read the info on all of the destructible objects or you will miss out.

Funny Level – Humorous

Fun Level - Fashion week in Paris!

Let’s up it to 11! – It took quite awhile to find the one object I needed to destroy. Maybe give the guys guarding it some special animation. How about using some of the other characters from the Facemaker's shop (maybe in the first mish)?

Overall Rating – Excellent fun little arc for lower level characters.

I'm glad you had fun with it

Due to yesterday's patch I actually had to go in and fix all the destructible objects. Which was time consuming, and I hope none of them were broken on your play through.

As for the first mission, I would honestly love to use the outdoor cargo ship map (you know the one used in the Scrapyarder arcs). It doesn't seem to be available though. As it is, the map I used only allows for really minimal objectives. I would do more with it if I could... or I wouldn't be opposed to using a different map if there was a suitable one.

I will definitely give the guys guarding the last objective a better animation. I just need to figure one out that works for the Family.

If I can figure out a better map for the first mission, I'll definitely add some of the characters from the Facemaker shop. That's a great idea!

Edit: Ok I went ahead and changed the first mission to a smallish cargo ship and added two of the Facemaker's "fabulous assistants". They are Exquisite Eliza and Adorable Alex.

Lowdown – This two mission arc is designed for new heroes levels 1-14 and it stays true to that level range while still being fun and playable (In my experience many that claim to be low level are too hard). The basic premise is that Ms Liberty has a simple task for you to perform for her, but we all know it never is that simple. The writing on this arc is very solid, it features good dialog, clear clues and your role in the story is clearly defined. The 45 minute timer the author intends for the second mission of this arc would fit in perfectly.

Funny Level – Mildly Humorous

Fun Level - Your first time at a new video arcade!

Let’s up it to 11! – Have Statesman show up after the second mission is over.

Overall Rating – A mildly humorous, but very fun low level mission that is a must play.

Finally! Someone who understands! You don't know how many times I've gotten, you should throw in some Vahz, 5th Column, and/or custom mobs, and I've been like "no you can't do that for a true lowbie arc!"

Thanks for the review and the Statesman idea is very, very tempting. Unfortunately, I can't fit any more detail into that map... maybe another clue? I'll have to think about it.

Hi Wrong Number! I've played and enjoyed all of your arcs, and thought perhaps you might take a peek at mine:

Title: Silver Aged
Arc ID: 280017

Mission Count: 4
Notes – A tongue-in-cheek look at a retired 'Silver-Age' style hero who must contend with his greatest threat yet: the modern world (with a little help from you!). Inspired by the changing trends in comic history.

Thank you for taking the time to play!

Title: Whack a Mole
Arc ID: 2711
Creator’s Global Name: @Bubbawheat
Mission Count: 1

Lowdown – This 5 minute (yes, 5 minutes max!) arc is very clever and simple in it's concept. The idea is that you are using the MA as a cheap carnival game where you have just 5 minutes to whack five moles.

Funny Level – While I loved the concept and thought it was a fun idea, the humor was not there.

Fun Level - One of those boardwalk games you just know you are going to win if you play it one more time.

Let’s up it to 11! – I would make a custom carnival barker contact and give them typical carnie speak. The Moles are crying out for some funny lines (not to be mole-icious, but but come on!)

Overall Rating – This arc was more of a challenge arc, it did have a nice concept that could easily have humor injected into it. It would not take too much time to really make this arc funny. That is as long as Bubbawheat does not write slow as mole-assess.

Thank you for taking the time to play!

Lowdown – So I need to help some retired hero? Good thing I always love "seasoned" characters as they present all sorts of opportunities for humor (I am in fact working on an arc featuring a retired sidekick). This arc is very well crafted and laced throughout with humor. The story will keep you hooked and the briefings are aesthetically pleasing. My minor nitpicks are that some of the non-boss level customs could be more interesting in appearance.

Funny Level – Humorous to Very Humorous

Fun Level - A fun roller coaster ride that will surprise you that it over already even though it is four missions.

Let’s up it to 11! – The minions in the first mish can use a little snazzing up. Silversteak seems a bit too spry for an old guy (He is an EB). I feel you could get more comedy mileage if he was a lot weaker. Many of the patrols in the 3rd mish have no dialog. (These are all nitpicks btw)

Overall Rating – A very solid arc with many levels of comedy through out. Highly recommended.

Title: The Revenge of Fred Wonka
Arc ID: 40522
Creator’s Global Name: @Ridgid
Mission Count: 1
Notes – Heroic

Lowdown – Fred Wonka, the way less successful and talented brother of Willie is pissed. He is sick of playing second fiddle while his brother gets all the glory so he comes up with a plan to ruin him and it is up to you to stop him. Could be a very funny idea, but it never is fleshed out or developed very much at all.

Funny Level – As funny as breaking a tooth on a Gobstopper.

Fun Level - A little more fun than a paper mission.

Let’s up it to 11! – More than one piece of dialog for the evil Oopmas and how about more detailed bios for them too. Fred was dull in appearance and seemed cookie cutter. Snazz him up! Add custom info for the destructibles. Maybe add some patrols with dialog about why the reject oopmas are rejects.

Overall Rating – It's one quick mission so you are not spending too much time with it, but there are large gaps and areas badly in need of some TLC. (3 Stars)

Arc ID: 27861
Creator’s Global Name: @Big Daddy Vio
Mission Count: 1
Notes – Will be tough for any character not able to solo bosses well or any character without plus perception (Bring Yellows if this is you!).
Lowdown – While working in a lab late one night a scientist saw an eerie sight of... monsters over running his lab with the intent of destroying his experiment. It is up to you to stop their shenanigans. Great, fun concept with little in the way of story due to it being a one shot, but what do you expect War and Peace?

Funny Level – Abbott and Constello meet Frankenstein.

Fun Level - A graveyard smash!

Let’s up it to 11! – There are no clues and that is an opportunity missed to jam in more humor.

Overall Rating – A very fun tip of the hat to the old school Universal monsters. A must play! (5 stars)

Hey hey. Just played, and thoroughly enjoyed, "Death to Disco" and "In Poor Taste". My attempts at reviews are below, with anything that seemed like a major spoiler excised. If you get the chance to run my current opus, "Weep Day", I'd greatly appreciate it. Having played "In Poor Taste", I think you'll at least appreciate the tone of the humour. Every enemy and objective has some kind of description, so click Info lots please .

"Weep Day" is inspired by the They Might Be Giants song of the same name, and if you're familiar with the tune, the lyrics quite effectively spoil the first twist. That's where I got the idea, after all. There are a couple other surprises (I hope), but they're completely pulled out of my - hey hey! - so ideally they're not so telegraphed.

Title: Weep Day
Arc ID: 310702
Creator’s Global Name: @Eraserdog
Mission Count: 5
Notes: Designed for heroes between 35-50. Soloable, but pack a couple of medium purples if you do. A couple of the boss encounters can be nasty alone even just on difficulty level 3.

Description (as seen on AE): An old (okay, ancient) friend, the legendary Mr. Tambo, hasn't been himself lately. He barely curses the very name of evil anymore, and has even lost interest in war stories. His grandson Tyson, himself an aspiring hero, has been contacting all of the old man's super acquaintances for advice...

----------------

Eraserdog's Stream-of-Concsiousness Reviews

"Death to Disco!"
Ran solo with Molly Monochrome, lv. 45 Ice/Eng Blaster

- Really like the intro. If there are two American presidents who are always comic gold, it's Lincoln and Carter. Maybe Clinton to a lesser extent. See David X. Cohen's reference to "the comedy writers' obsession with Lincoln" in the Futurama DVD commentaries (I forget which one).

- Okay, I'm saving a crey-brainwashed Jimmy Carter. Heh. I like this a lot already.

- Very nice, short but intensely violent first level.

- I'm always a sucker for the park maps. Liked the ref to the real Disco Demolition Night.

- Major bonus points for the Kung Fu Fightin' enemies - great design. Everything about Dr. Disco Fever works - description, moveset, look. The joke is starting to feel a little one-note, but I'm expecting a twist.

- Huh, mission over. Got to admit, that was kind of a sudden halt, but I am used to running my own greviously long missions, so I might not have started this mish with the right expectations. Well-written for sure, and a good time for a short mish. Extra recommendation to anyone looking for a fast but worthwhile solo run.

****

"In Poor Taste"
Ran solo with Molly Monochrome, lv. 45 Ice/Eng Blaster

- On what turns out to be a semi-related note, Boogerman was one of my favorite games of the 16 bit era. He can fart-fly! Such a heater!

- Okay, seriously, this is brilliant. Ms. Manners recruits me to wipe inappropriately named villains off the streets because kids are picking up too much cuss language from crime reports. Definitely one of the most original AE concepts I've seen, and a huge laugh right off the bat.

- I agree with one of the other reviews I saw in that Manhandle is my favorite of the bosses, but I think he works fine in the first mish.

- "Pump Manhandle for Information" Hah. And again I say hah.

- Manhandle's dialogue is joyfully awful. Never change any of it please.

- Ha ha. Fart level. I'm no longer responsible if you're squicked by any part of Weep Day.

- You've got a major talent with boss dialog, I just wish they weren't so easy to murder...er...arrest. Call it murdarrest. Maybe one could possibly be a custom if memory allows?

- Okay, unless this mish explodes my computer, "slap the [small mammal]" just netted you an automatic 5 stars.

- It's awesome how the bosses mentioned in one early clue actually show up IN the arc - I totally thought that would just be a throwaway gag.

- Wow, [ally], massacre machine. Gotta admit, saved my glass hammer of a blapper a few times on the last mish. Great decision making the ally optional, too.

- Despite having nowhere near as awesome a name,[fire boss in last level], actually gets nasty points over Manhandle.

- Took out [small animal] last, so the last line of in-mish dialogue I saw was "you didn't beat me, it's just shrinkage". Hah.

- LOVED the ending dialogue. Great closer to a great balance of comedy and really fun gameplay. Full stars, natch.

Lowdown – An retired hero's grandson contacts you for some help and it quickly becomes apparent that an all out assault is under way against retired heroes. This leads to a series of events in which your help is needed and the search is on for whoever is behind this plot. This 5 mission arc is over packed with objectives both mandatory and optional. It features some of the best characters and descriptions I have come across. Overall the story is very well written.

Funny Level – Easily can be a Very Humorous arc, but some of the annoyances pull it down to a Humorous.

Fun Level - Grandma has her good days and she has her bad days. I was having a blast despite the first mission map being too large until mission four which brought it to a dead stop (see picture below).

Let’s up it to 11! – This arc needs to be trimmed down on objectives or at the very least the number of each objective. The fourth mission especially needs to be reworked starting with the escort. Also, after leading someone out on such a large map then defeating the Big Bad only to have a four glowie hunt pop up was an Arrrgggggh! moment. The glowies have no text on their bar. The boss that could be out of Poor Taste could use some funnier lines (contact me in game if you want my thoughts).

Overall Rating – There is a great arc here, it is just a little muddled and drawn out at the moment. With some trimming this will be a 5 star arc, but for now 4 stars. In any case it is definitively worth a play.

Thanks much for the feedback. That's something that comes up a lot with my missions, and the help editing is much obliged. Awesome to know someone thinks there's a five-star pigeon in there.

Mission 4 is getting trimmed down as we speak - I'm nixing three of the four glowies, so you just have to find one, most likely right where you find the person who tells you about it. The Escort is becoming a Captive. Boom, done, no effect to the plot or anything. He even still yacks. This is the kind of thing you don't see until someone else points it out.

As for the size of the mission 1 map, have you tried to find a working payphone these days? :P I threw in some gritty realism there, heh heh. Also, once you finish the mission, if you stick around to fight the severe spamorama that spawns, suddenly the map feels a lot fuller.

Thanks again, and the cuts have left room for a couple new clues and jokes if you're interested in a replay. The earlier jokes were me taking kind-of sort-of good natured jabs at the inhabitants of my baffling little world, these new ones just smell like mean spirit :P
