Shield mez protect is active?

Obviously anyone who has played shield knows this, and it is by no means anything new. I just tried out shield recently and I must say an active rather than toggled mez protect is pretty ugh worthy. Is there a power later that helps or is this just an agreed upon downfall of shields? Or am I being naive and is there actually an awesome part I'm missing?

Thanks for any feedback.

The nice part is that it can be stacked... which since it contains defense debuff resistance is good regardless of whether or not you need the extra mez protection.

The bad part is that your mez protection eats time out of your attack chain.

After you get Shields high enough to accept SOs (or level 25+ IOs), three slotting it for recharge means a substantial time of double protection. For Tankers that basically means some of most comprehensive, highest mag mez protection in the game. Add on to that the extra protection from One With The Shield and it's possible to get mez protection in the 30s just by yourself.

Active Defence also provides you with a substantial amount of your def debuff resistance, which means double stacking it is highly beneficial in that regard as well.

Lastly, it helps keep the set's end usage down overall, as it averages lower end usage consumption compared to most toggle mez protection.

The only real downsides are: if your recharge is debuffed massively for an extremely long period of time, you may have gaps in your mez protection (assuming OwtS is down); also if you happen to be defeated right after it was activated, being revived means waiting until it's recharged.

Pros and cons ultimately, but after level 22, it has yet to have failed me on my 50 SD/SS Tanker.

Wow thanks for the quick responses. I can see your points. I still must say that I am a product of the system and toggled mez protect seems to just be better in my mind. I'm a hit it and forget it kinda guy (lol). Which I guess is why I'm a huge fan of Willpower. Oh well. The responses make me feel slightly better.

Biggest problem I have with click mez protect powers is that I cant have them and hasten on auto. So im inevitably forgetting to fire one of them off, either of which will bone me in the...well, bad place to be boned.

If you control+click on the power it will set it to auto fire whenever recharged.

Missing Hasten is that problematic? I've never had that problem before.

EDIT: On a melee character, anyway. A perma-dom would probably have trouble missing Hasten, but they don't get Shields....

I've been the victim of flowing my attack chain and missing activation.

Can get really annoying if I start getting chain held or just because AAO drops.

One of the benfits of a click mez protection power is if you get drained totally of end and Active defense is still up, you are still free to move around and do other things (eat blues). So a sapper or carnie death taking away all your endurance is painful but not necessarily life threatening.

[/ QUOTE ]It's impossible to detoggle if, for example, you run out of endurance, and it can be stacked if you've got enough recharge.

Also, both Super Reflexes and Ninjutsu have similar click powers for mez protection.
