I remember a lot of people being pissed about the way it happened. Statesman posted some long justification about this epiphany he had when playing his PSP or something (can't remember but it wasn't an MMO) and players got annoyed that the game was changing apparently based on his whim.
I still think it was handled badly, personally. But I was getting my MA/regen scrapper to 50 at the time -- /regen being one of the groups who were screaming their heads off about ED -- and remember reslotting and not noticing too much of a difference. I stopped playing for a while after that (not related) and now that I'm back I can't say I care one way or the other.

You could have done that before. You chose not to. Nothing ED did changes that fact.
Had the game launched with ED, I don't think it would have been bad, but doing such a drastic nerf after the fact still rubs me the wrong way. I'd probably be less annoyed, but folks saying that they were "forced" to play a certain way is BS. IF they chose to play for effectiveness then good, I did too, but I wish people would stop acting like they were forced.

I don't think anyone really feels that they were forced into playing a certain way before ED. However, ED did force them to rethink their slotting and, in most cases, they found better ways to slot their characters when the old standby's weren't viable anymore.

I foolishly slotted according to recommendations in the original Prima guide which suggested diversification. I wondered at the time why the scrapper several levels lower than me was always doing massive damage.

I saw I could slot 1 acc and 5 dam. Thats what I did.6 sotted health and stamina, 6 slotted haste, the works. Now I think back and wonder how the heck I didnt run out of end in 3 attacks and how the heck did my powers recharge fast enough to have a good attack chain. Perma haste wasnt enough for some things. I remember hitting very hard though.
Well the GDN retired my tanker, switching to blasters and regen scrappers (figuring that after the 2nd or was it the 3rd balancing of regen would have finally gotten it right so it was safe, I was wrong) so I didn't get back to my tank until after ED hit so I was spared doing a respec on my character twice.
