Typically looks like purple and silver, as I recall.

Another option would be to use the test server MA. If you put a Vanguard NPC into a custom group and then customize them as a standard character you'll be able to see exactly what colors they use in their uniforms.

I've seen a variety of them scattered in the RWZ, black green, black red, silver purple, blue purple.... I don't think there is a standard color archetype for them. I've just been coloring my vanguard pieces along with my current primary costume colors. I'm also not going to get the entire costume. I have the chest unlocked but decided not to use it. I won't unlock the shoulders or the legs but may unlock the boots. I am working on the belt currently.

Generally, purple and grey. It's a mix of the blue and white of heroes, and the red and black of villains. 
Sounds like your main SG activity is gonna be Mothership raids to get all those merits for costumes.

The different colored Vanguard come from the differentbranches. For example, if you click a grey and purple one, they are <Vanguard> but the black and green are <Vanguard Sword>. During Levantera's intro arc, one of the contacts gives you a very brief overview on the branches ofVanguard, and a little more detail in one of the arcs. You may want to see how much detail you can find about the branches, especially if you intend to run an RP group.

Don't know if I missed it during the arc, didn't see anything on the wiki, but who or what are the Talsorians?
"Talsorian" is a reference to a real world PnP RPG designer.
In-game, I believe it's the name of the scientist who created the monomolecular force fields that the weapons and shield are made of.
"Talsorian" is specifically in reference to the energy-bladed weapons. That's why the Vanguard rifle has a different name.

Just popped on to test and used the MA to check the colors used in a Vanguard Wizard's uniform. Using the costume color chart from Paragon Wiki the colors are:
All parts of the helmet, chest detail, shoulders, gloves, belt, and boots:
1st color: color # 3 (found in row A)
2nd color: color # 5 (found in row A)
Chest and legs:
1st color: color # 121 (found in row m)
2nd color: color # 5 (found in row a)
Face: color # 121 (found in row m)
