New Chat $Variable, Please?
Not a bad idea, for those who need it.
I like the idea. Though for anyone who wants it as a way to remember the server you're currently on, rather than to automatically communicate it to others, there's the /whereami command, which will tell you the shard you're currently on

I'm in favor of this idea!
Appreciate the support, but the thread still died awful fast.

Add in $primary and $secondary (with associated $pri & $sec for shortened versions) would be nice too. Especially if they worked through MA too...
Well, time passed and the post died away. Worse, I did a search for '$server' and got everything Except the latest post about this subject...
So, ker-bump!
Rise! Rise my long-dead thread! By Necro-posting, I Command You!

I would have no use of it.. well not for a while longer until I finally run out of space on Virtue.
That said, I'd be fine with it being added. Along with $pri and $sec (Might cause issues with VEATs though)
Just for shots and giggles maybe a $vet, which says how many months you've been playing?
A few more variables would be nice, yes. $server, $primary and $secondary sound like good ideas. Not much I can add aside from that. Except...
Do we have $zone? Would that even work, considering instances count you as being in the zone you entered them from?
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

ParagonWiki shows only a few $variables.
- $name: your character's name
- $origin: your character's origin
- $archetype: your character's archetype
- $level: your character's level
- $battlecry: your character's battlecry
- $target: your target

$Alignment (Hero, Villain, Rogue etc) might be handy too

Well, there's nothing wrong with that... I doubt I could think of 20 of them that we 'need', so it's unsurprising that the Devs thought those were enough. Still, it's 5 years later and $server would be very convenient for those of us that commonly chat cross-server.

Well, folks say this is a good idea, but apparently it's not good enough, since the post keeps fading out.
Others have suggested $primary and $secondary, which I can see some uses for.
However, I'd still like to see a $server variable for cross server chatting. My 100+ toons will thank you for simplifying their lives!

Your best bet at this point would probably be to send a PM to pohsyb with a link to this thread.

Signed.
While we're at it, would it be possible to get a $sex one too, to show if a toon is male or female? Not a big deal, but it would be a nice option.

Target Objective (him/her/it) .... "Give it to him"
Target Possessive (his/hers/its) ---- "His tights are on backwards"
@Texarkana
@Thexder
Target Subjective (he/she/it) ... "He has it"
Target Objective (him/her/it) .... "Give it to him" Target Possessive (his/hers/its) ---- "His tights are on backwards" |
So, we'd have $sgender, $ogender, and $pgender... In current usage, $target could be substituted, but that leads to badly contrived grammar. These $variables could also be useful in creating Mission Architect content, couldn't they?
It seemed presumptuous to PM anyone about my own thread, but I'll do it now.

In a way, there's half a mechanic already existing for some of those variables. I say "half" because even though I don't think* they work in chat, they are included in the variables you can use in the Mission Architect:
- supergroup: Replaces this text with the name of the player's super group. If the player doesn't have a super group the text "No Supergroup" is displayed. - heshe: This option allows for gender switches, since the game knows whether you're playing a male or female you can specify which gender using the heshe replacement command, 'he' or 'she'. If you use capital versions of HeShe, the game will display them as capitals with replaced 'He' or 'She' - himher: Similar to heshe, this text can be used to display the proper gender of the player. This command also supports capitals. HimHer becomes 'Him' or 'Her' - hisher: Replaces this text with the gender of the player. This command also supports capitals. HisHer becomes 'His' or 'Her'. - sirmam: Replaces this text with 'sir' or 'mam' depending on gender. This command also supports capitals. SirMam becomes 'Sir' or 'Mam'. |
* I haven't tried, so I don't know for certain.

Okay, those would work better. So, they just need to port those variables from the MA to general chat... and add $server!

Did you PM Psybob? I'm not sure endless bumping will help.
I did PM Pohsyb, lo these many moons ago. And I'm not just endlessly bumping the thread, though it does seem like I'm talking to myself, sometimes. I didn't expect a response to the PM - not directly, but I just moved some characters around and now I've got to re-edit the chat keybinds on them. So the topic kinda refreshed in my mind and I went looking, to see if there had been any hidden action on the subject.
There wasn't, so I thought it might be timely to bring it up again.

I know it's been mentioned before - I did it myself, but that post has gone to the great chatlog in the sky. So, I reiterate...
I have characters on all servers. Okay, I have LOTS of characters on all of the (US) servers. I also belong to several global chat channels and I identify myself using chat variables like $name, $level, $archetype...
Unfortunately, there is no $server variable, so I have to add that by hand to each chat-channel macro. Worse, I have to change it for each character on a different server.
Please, Devs, can we have a $server chat variable?
