Can't set an avatar, signature, etc.

Having some forum issues. Whenever I go to edit my avatar, signature, and what not, I am unable to get it to accept them. When I try, the boards complain that I need to enter x characters for my password and what not. And if I do try to reset my password at the same time, I'll get a cryptic "It appears this was not submitted in proper form" error. Anyway I can get these dang boards to take my avatar and signature? I'm using a Mac with Safari if that matters.

Okay, I know this is on the same level as "is it plugged in?", but you ARE putting your password in BOTH boxes, yes?

If that's not it, try changing your password, then see if it accepts the new one on the update page.

Good luck!

I'm not trying to change my password, I can do that on it's own and the boards accept it with no issue. The issue is it squawks for a new password when I try to change anything else. And if I do try change the password at the same time, then it complains I didn't do something right.

That screen unfortunately requires you to enter a password (and pw verification) every time you want to change your avatar or signature.

Maybe it doesn't like the content of your signature. It could be too long or something... or your avatar is not in the correct format.

Also, you might want to try using a different browser, such as Firefox, Mozilla, Camino, SeaMonkey, Opera or even Internet Explorer.

If you continue to have the same problems using different browsers it would eliminate it being a browser related issue.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

...and sometimes it's just stubborn. That's why I really haven't changed anything since I resubscribed last December.

Waiting for the day the forum software is replaced. Hopefully before the world ends in 2012.

Like Twilight indicated so much more clearly than I did, the update screen requires you to put in your CURRENT password, twice, for security. It can be very misleading.

[/ QUOTE ] It's not asking for a "current" password twice. I just tried a different password while changing the signature at the same time and it worked just fine.

It doesn't seem like any kind of security feature because you can put anything you want in there and it will just change it. The only stipulation is you HAVE TO put ANY password in, whether its the same or new.

fix'd

To the OP:
1. Blah blah password blah blah password verify blah blah.
2. Ctrl+C your sig, because it doesn't tell you that you're over the character limit until you submit, and it will reset it.
3. Make sure the image is a.) 80x80 pixels, b.) posted on an image hosting site (or the like), c.) directly linked (that means no [url=htpblah blah tags]

This is actually why I hate these bloody boards so much.

Here's the fix...

Whenever you chance something MAKE SURE YOU ENTER YOUR PASSWORD. And if something screws up and you press the back button, it WILL NOT WORK. Go back to My Home, and repeat the process.

Once you give the URL to your avatar, the page will probably take forever to load, or crash. But don't worry. It's probably submitted. Just go have a drink. It takes a while for the avatar change to take effect. If no changes happen within 5 minutes, go back and redo the process.

I got it accepting whatever I put in for my signature now, though the trick now is to come up with a signature I want to use. However, it's still complaining about any attempts at using an avatar. I'm trying to use one I use on several other sites and it just won't take it. Here's the direct link Photobucket gives me and I use, there shouldn't be an issue with it.

Ok, if it isn't obvious it works now. My avatar was smaller than 80x80, so my guess is it doesn't like non-square avatars. I'll need to remake it as a square then so it's not stretched.

i suspect the issue was really that it was at 72dpi, so it was 110x(something i can't remember) and not the 80xsomething it was telling you it was. The error is in the way properties displays size for images that aren't at 100dpi. This was the most common issue for avatars on the huge forum i used to run, back when i was working for a living. A simple resize to 100dpi fixed it 100% of the time.
