Why I luv my Tanker
[ QUOTE ]
Tankers have decent offense. They're certainly not the weakest-hitting AT.
[/ QUOTE ]
Quite true. Some people seem to think that by doing less damage than other melee AT's, they're somehow doing insignificant damage. Being the "weakest melee AT" does not make one weak, same as how having the slowest NASCAR car still means you have a damn fast car.
"the reason there are so many sarcastic pvpers is we already had a better version of pvp taken away from us to appease bad players. Back then we chuckled at how bad players came here and whined. If we knew that was the actual voice devs would listen to instead of informed, educated players we probably would have been bigger dicks back then." -ConFlict

If all the other racers are topping out at 180 MPH and all your car does is 108 MPH, that's not that impressive.
10-20MPH slower is one thing. Being 40% slower is another.

Hey Look! Somebody pulled JB out of their....
Hat!
I luv my Tank because I don't have to chase down the foolish villains. They come running to me to try and show who's the alpha dog in the house. It ain't them.
I luv my tank because I can get a foes attention away from the squishy teammates and help the team survive better.
I luv my tank because I like jumping in with both feet and going "take that sucka's" and not getting alpha'd to death back. Too much fun for one AT.
Throwing darts at the board to see if something sticks.....
Come show your resolve and fight my brute!
Tanks: Gauntlet, the streak breaker and you!

When all the other cars can only get up to 70-80 MPH, 108 is still very preferable.

Those in question get debuffs and buffs that turn 70-80 MPH into 150-160 MPH.
The only one that doesn't just got his speed tweaked so now all of the time he can drive as fast as he only used to on nitro.

Not all of them do, unless you are telling me Force Fields don't count. Or Earth/Mind control for that matter.
In that case, those tanks would be running at 180 the same as the rest, since that's what some can do.

Will you stop having metaphor wars with the most meaningless man on the forums, Rei?
One-shotting hazard spawns = Bad melee damage? How in the world can you be bothered trying to explain to someone with that kind of mindset?

I'm not impressed by what your level 50 does to minions in Boomtown.
But really, the complaint is not about 2 or 3-shotting minions so much as it is about 12 to 19-shotting Bosses.

I love metaphor wars, thankyouverymuch!
And you forget, J_B doesn't slot his attacks for damage, so he doesn't know how hard they can actually hit.

No he wouldn't. He's intelligent enough not to get that emotionally invested in a video game.

A good tank (not necessarily mine), has the ability to give other AT's on the team the time and opportunity to really shine. When I jump head first into an 8-man mob and the controller locks them down and says, "Yeah, I did that!". When the blaster lobs AOE's and says, "Yeah, I did that!". When a defender lays waste in debuffs and buffs without fear and says, "You can thank me for that!" When the scrapper says, "I'll get the boss." And let's not forget the Peacebringers and Warshades that say, "Thank god I didn't have to go to dwarf form!" It means to me that the team can do what they do best with confidence. That is the only reason I play my tank. My Tank is awesome because it helps make the team awesome. "Yeah, I did that."

I don't understand this quote. The number of circumstances where Defenders and Controllers outdamage Tankers are small enough that it seems nitpicking to base one's understanding of the entire AT on them. In fact, it's probably just one power you're talking about, Fulcrum Shift, and we know it's an outlier.

Its J_B.
This is a "I love my tank" thread.
The "I hate my tank" thread is over there---->
Being able to survive entire waves of minions, lts, and bosses, or even bigger game while defeating the same foes as everyone else screams super hero louder than any other AT in the game.
Who needs superman, I play this game to play my creation not DCs.

I love my Tanker because it most closely resembles real life for me. Get drunk enough to feel invincible, then run around yelling at things and punching them in the head. Beautiful.

Because durability is what we don't have in real life.
In real life, offense is king of the battlefield -- we can destroy stuff from the edge of space with satellite-guided precision munitions. We have nukes, for crying out loud.
What we don't have in real life conflict is high durability. Sure, there are isolated examples like composite armor and battleships and the NORAD bunker. But in general, weaponry is to be avoided because our power to destroy far outstrips our power to endure. We don't even need high-tech...even improvised explosive devices kill and wound quite readily.
So in-game, offense is fun...but it's not a paradigm shift. Sure, the team's Blasters leveled the bank robbers. But we already expect bank robbers to get leveled by SWAT teams in the real world.
But the ability to go into hideously dangerous situations with (at least some) confidence -- the durability to go right into the teeth of all that deadly weaponry and stay standing -- that's the fantasy we do not get to live out in the real world.
Durability, defense, mitigation, whatever you want to call it -- THAT'S superhuman.
[/ QUOTE ]
That was unexpectedly insightful.

I concur with this.
Well done, Sailboat.
Sailboat summed it up expertly.
I play a tank because tanking is what I do best, i've tried every other AT and nothing suits me quite as much as a tank does, regardless what anyone says my tanks do their jobs expertly and can even dish a decent level of punishment on top of it.
it's all about knowing your toon and what it can do, then taking it the next step.
Why I love my Tanker? Everyone else is a squishy when I play them.
I'm a newer player but IMO tanks are particularly fun in CoH just because CoH does a really good job of throwing legions of enemies at you. Sure at times you're just tanking a boss, but a lot of the time you're literally fending off 15 enemies and pulling it off. At times it feels like a Kung Fu movies with evil henchmen jumping through windows left and right while you handily dispatch them.

Oh I see.... I thought my level 40 was soloing that even level mission 1 shotting all the minions and 2 shotting all the lt's but apparently I was in boomtown. My mistake. I should just ask J_B next time about my experiences playing the game and save myself the trouble of actually logging in and playing. I mean... why bother unless I'm 2 shotting Recluse himself. Anything less wouldn't be like the guys in the comics who can move mountains.
Also... I call BS on the this is an MMO problem. Did you ever happen to notice that Superman... in virtually every single game created using him... can still die if enough plain old bullets or rockets hit him? There are also several games I can remember playing where he can't just run over whatever you happen to feel like as the character playing him. I couldn't just walk straight through any building I felt like, I couldn't fly out into outer space, I couldn't play soccer with the moon.
It is impossible to accurately represent some superheroes in a video game. They are so powerful that whatever the person controlling the toon wanted would be possible and that is outside of the scope of any video game I've ever played. There have to be some rules to what a character in a game can and cannot do, so your conceptually having a "Super Hero" game is impossible in the way you want it, and has NEVER been done and can NEVER be until games get AI to the point where the game can alter itself based on the person playing so that even though you are ultimately powerful the game can still present challenges enough so that it doesn't get boring.
Unless of course you think it makes conceptual sense that my "invulnerable" super hero in the game can be killed by normal guys shooting guns... or that shotting giant balls of molten fire at simple powerless thugs on the street sometimes isn't enough to stop them.
If you are so unhappy with the game... please quit and stop trolling on the forums for people who clearly have such little interest in hearing your broken record opinions of the game that they mock you openly every single chance they can.

Because long drawn out fights with Bosses and EBs isn't boring? Challenge through annoyance isn't good game design.
