Would-be Celebrities on Justice
Umm. . .
I hate to say it.
What's "IBTL?" I don't stay on the forums enough to know the abbreviations? :O

No offense, but it was not a very good idea starting this thread. Are you going to go in-game and poll all the people that don't go to the forums?
There are alot of awesome player's on Justice. Some who are well named and there are a few that sit back quietly and help, but never get the credit. You are doing nothing but stirring the pot for flamewars and back-biting. A popularity contest on Justice is not needed.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree. One of the features that drew me to Justice and keeps me here is that the "in" crowd is much less catty than elsewhere.

Man some people whine alot. Whats the big fuggin prob with naming people we think are t3h bestest?
Ill add LHF to the list as well as Judads, Snaps and Mokey. Rockin' players and people.

Let me make sure I understand this. Just because someone doesn't agree with you, you consider that whining?

Sigh.
It's a shame. I was hardly looking for a "popularity contest" or something to turn folks against each other. It's a pity if that's what folks really do want.
I guess I'm finished posting in this thread. I'll keep reading as long as it's open. Keep talking about AWESOME PEOPLE, I suppose, but I honestly don't know what is wrong about there existing a thread giving folks praise for just being good gamers?
It's not about "Well, this gamer is better than YOU, so there!"
Here's what it's all about.
As players, we all appreciate seeing folks who shine and help, who go out of their way to be good citizens of this mythical Paragon City (and, yes, the Rogue Isles, too). Can't we put that into a friendly, unified statement without it turning into something unintended?
That's all. Take care, and good luck on Justice.

Oh, sure, Justice is filled with great people. No denying that.
I don't think identifying, or having fun discussing celebrities risks being malicious, or flamebait. At least not the way I took it.
I still remember the first time I encountered Kat in game. I was stunned. (and I even left her off my list earlier. Bad Chyll.)
Or when I saw Tic-Toc loitering aroudn WW...
Or, again, Doug the Troll. The start of the first mission I ever teamed with him I thought "wtf?!" and by the end I didn't want to stop playing. I remember how I lit up whenever I saw him later - particularly Winter Event when they first put in the ski slope.
"Celebrities" are the highlights that demonstrate the all around good memories and fun on Justice.
edit: And I am still get celeb-giddy a lot now when I see their namesake. Folks I know by their global and have teamed with several times on various alts... But when I see their global out and about 'in the digital flesh' its just cool.
You can be influenced by so many people ingame, you may not even know that something you did or said was even noticed. I think it's nice that we acknowlege those who have touched our lives (even in an MMO) but many of these people may not be considered "celebrities". That being said the entire Justice community is rich with good people who will go out of their way to help others. I have said it before but I feel very lucky to have spent my time in CoH here on Justice. I leave the game a better person for the friends and experiences I have had here.

I'm curious how this got interpreted as a popularity contest. When I read the original post, it looked like someone was asking us to point out who we thought were good players, regardless of whether they are outgoing or quiet. Is there some award if somone gets mentioned by more than one person? I've yet to see any flaming or back-biting. I don't see any posts of "Player X is more better than Player Y because he does A, B & C for the community". The people in-game that don't read the forums won't see the results/posts of this thread regardless, so are we expected to feel sorry for their perceived slight in choosing not to participate? <shrug>
You are right that there are a lot of awesome people on Justice. Pointing those people out, or the reasons why you feel inclined to point them out, isn't a popularity contest. We aren't electing anybody to anything... well, unless Talia starts handing out titles again.
There are way too many to list for me... people in my SG, people in some of the chat channels I'm in, and the sadly not insignificant number of people that originally got me into the game but no longer play, including co-workers from a company I no longer work at. These people know who they are because I generally point it out to them individually, and really, that's more important than pointing them out in a forum thread. Tell someone how they, individually, impacted you and you'll usually get a much better response.
This does however give me an idea for a thread... hmmm....
*fighting depression*
I don't raid much and don't PvP ... but I like my TFs ... so my list would be a little different ...
Hanging on the Art boards mostly at first I got to be a fan of Katfood first and Thor's Assassin after, really early in my stay with CoX. (Then I got to play with them ... those are still happy days!)
But to list the people that have marked my stay in CoX I would have to say that (some I only know by one of their characters)
Texas Justice,
Deep Blue,
Jala,
TicToc,
Katfood,
Thor's Assassin,
Platinum Arsenal,
Major Decoy,
Q,
LivingHellFire,
LaserJesus,
Onslaught,
Stampead and
Dr. Pippy
and then there are people I have come to know and enjoy after my longish time away from the game
Goober,
Kensei,
Talia,
Arwen,
Manoa,
DarkBridger,
Allyriah,
MikeHoncho and probably a ton more ...
doesn't mean they are Justice stars ... just my stars ...

While I don't think that the OP's intent was to make this into a popularity contest, I suspect that it was perceived as such because of the way the post was written. When the OP says something like...
[ QUOTE ]
When you think of "ultra cool people" whom everyone seems to know or who are apparently always hanging around or who always have that one thing they do that sets them apart. . . what characters and what players come to mind?
[/ QUOTE ]
...I can certainly understand why it would cause some to pause and express caution regarding the topic.
There used to be a thread a long time ago where posters would write about how certain individuals made an impact on their COH experience, so it's pretty evident that Justice has no problem giving credit where credit is due. But anything that could end up as a list of "popular" for the sake of popularity and not merit runs the risk of not going over very well.
For me, there are just too many people that I would have to list...every person that I have encountered on Justice, whether for good or for bad, has had an impact upon my play experience and has helped me grow as a COH player and a member of our community. So when I say "everybody," I'm not trying to be funny...I most certainly mean it!

I've been able to at least figure that out, but I always see "Reading a post in flat mode" or whatever. It's never shown me the exact post they're looking at.
EDIT - Oh, wait, nevermind! I figured it out! I've always looked at the "Friends Online" in the personal preferences section. I've never clicked "Who's online" at the top of the forum...never even noticed it there!
*commences stalking*
If you click Who's Online. It'll show you who is signed in and what thread they're looking at unless someone changes their options to Private.
Castle has his set to Private, but Synapses does not. Etc.
There is also the option to be totally anonymous, so they can't see your online or what your looking at.
Can you tell I'm bored at work and IRC isn't keeping me occupied enough?
It all depends on how you define "celebrity."
If I were to define it as people with whom I've played and the experience was memorable (good or bad), it would be one list; if it was to be defined as most notables (just hanging out or seem to play whatever whenever), it would be another list.
In no particular order: LivingHellfire, MissInformed, LaserJudas, LaserJesus, Police Drone X9, Philly Girl, TicToc, Abraxxus, Katfood, Thor's Assassin, Fanny, Kadmon, Quatermain, Goober, Arwen Darkblade, Doug The Troll, Hard Rock One, Blu J/Blue Science, Darkbridger, Jala, Talia Rayvyn, Kensei, Manoa, MikeHoncho.
Most notables seen playing on Justice: BackAlleyBrawler (as himself?) tanking a Babbage GM (in Skyway City) for a group doing the Synapse Task Force. (He wasn't doing the Task Force, just tanking the GM.) I just remember Speed Boosting him to TANK FASTER, BABs! =)
Folks whom I miss the most? MissInformed, Illusionism, BLACKFIRE, Capt Omega, FrostBites and Pragon.
Thank goodness I'm a nobody.

Doug the Troll was freaking excellent. I agree with Chyll's sentiment.

Thirded. Doug was awesome and is sorely missed.
I wish I could chime in on this thread, but unfortunately most of the people that I think are well known on Justice are either in my SG or happen to be members of TA. So there's probably some bias there.
I will give a shout out to Feral Kat/Katfood for being a stupendous SG leader, fan art [censored], and all around awesome person to play with and chat with. Whether people do or don't like her, there's no denying that she's one of Justice's most well known players.
