Pets Die When You Die
Gang War persists from Thugs, but all the Tier 1-2-3 pets do die.

Controller pets die when you die, too. So do patron pets. So does gun drone, voltaic sentinel, etc. etc.
Any "owned" pets die when you die, with the exception being soul extraction (don't ask, I don't know why). I'm pretty sure it's not a hardcoded limitation but it's definitely intentional that the devs made your pets go down when you did.
Soul extraction is already as dead as dead can get.
Extracted Essence remains because the player is not the entity that summoned them (I think).

@Wavicle, mostly on the Justice server.

Who is then...? The zombie? They die too and so do their summoned pets.
Pets that have a fixed lifespan persist until their duration expires. Pets that have an unlimited lifespan only persist until the owner is defeated. Both kinds cease to persist if the owner leaves the map or zone.

I'm not so sure about that.. I did a co-op valentines mission one time with my Thugs MM, and this could have changed since then, but I was with a hero and had summoned my Gang War on the boss at the end, and zoned out immediately. The hero was a blaster, and I not sure if they went afk for a moment or what, but they said the gang war turned on them and killed them. Sure enough, he exited the mission dead.

Just noticed Damage Proc Mini-FAQ wasn't working with new forums, it's been updated.

Phantom Army seems to be an exception to this rule.

I believe your talking about two different powers.
Soul Extraction
Dark Extraction
And I believe Wavicle is right. You're not summoning the pet yourself, you're using a power that summons it off of something else. In this case they cannot be tagged with 'die when caster dies' since the caster is technically already dead.

This isn't limited to just the normal things you'd think of as "pets" either.
Powers that I know (unfortunately, from experience) end when you die are:
- Tornado
- Lightning Storm
- Ice Slick
- Earthquake
- Volcanic Gasses
- Quicksand
- Phantom Army (mentioned above)
- Disruption Arrow
- Freezing Rain
- Liquify
...and basically any other semi-persistant effect that is tied to a location on the ground instead of to a player or enemy. Sonic shields, for example, do not drop, but Liquify does.
I was thinking about this the other night when I got slaughtered from an EB. For my Bots/Traps MM, I always found it amusing to see all my pets die when I died. I am trying to remember if that was also the case for my Controller on the Hero side? As I recall, I think that my Phantasm and PA would still linger around until I could rez myself but if I had to zone by going to a hosp, then they would die or disappear.
The reason I bring this up is I think I would be nice to still have them linger around to knock off a few baddies until one can rez themselves without getting clobbered. I am thinking that because of Body Guard Mode, this inherently ties their defenses with yours and thus if you die, your pets cannot survive and then you will see the cute little skull and crossbones all lined up in a nice vertical row on your pets display. This also holds true for Aggressive Attack mode I believe. This was just a thought and don't know if anyone else out there in CoX land has ever wondered about this?
