What is differnt between these powers besides BS doing more? what makes katana better? or atleast able to keep up? I have played a katana to lvl 20 once and deleted him for some odd reason.. I think dmg was to low but now i wanna make one again so does any one have any ideas? and i was kinda looking at wp for secondary but wasnt sure on that.

I don't have a BS toon but generally BS does more damage but at the expense of slower recharge & cast times, and the endurance penalty is higher than Katana for nearly every attack. Other than that, they do basically the same thing in terms of secondary effects of the attacks.

The standard line is that BS and Kat work out to about the same DPS, when all is said and done. BS hits harder, recharges and animates slower, costs more end (per attack). Kat does less damage (per attack), recharges and animates faster, costs less end (per attack). I'm not one of the most informed folks when it comes to the swords, but I'm fairly sure that by the time you get your full attack chain, the end and damage tend to equalize between the two sets. I'd imagine you'd have an easier time making a gapless attack chain with Katana.

Also, don't downplay the aesthetic comparison. The only reason I'm holding off on a BS/Inv is because I don't like the animations all that much. But of course that's totally personal, subjective, and possibly silly.

Ok, thanks and for the secondary im unsure I know there all good and i was kinda leaning tward WP but i already have one at 20 and it seems kinda weak any advice on that? or is there an absolutly better secondary?

Broad Sword deals less damage over time, they have the same DPE (damage per endurance) so Katana ends up costing more endurance and the animations of Katana are better.

Parry/Divine Avalanche makes most any secondary into a beast; get mobs into melee range, profit. I know there was a lot of recent talk about Kat/DA and its potential, as well as some newly energized Kat (or BS)/Inv love, given the fairly recent buffs to Inv. The other thing Inv has going for it is the +toHit with mobs in melee range; that plus the swords' inherent accuracy and defense debuffing means you won't have to slot too much for accuracy.

also remember that almost all the attacks of Katana can use the achille chance to -resist IO, which basically improve the damage output.

Both sets can. Katana just gets more from it because it's capable of getting off more attacks because the animations are faster.

They're pretty equivalent overall.

Katana doesn't require as much recharge for the high DPS chains, and shorter attacks benefit more from procs, so it can be preferred by the min/maxers for that reason. And for normal play, The Lotus Drops is much faster and slightly more damaging than Whirling Sword, making it a superior AoE.

So I'd suggest Katana for the numbers, but they're close enough that I recommend just playing whichever seems more fun to you.

As far as secondary, no, there's no secondary that's absolutely better than Willpower. In fact, most secondaries are WORSE than Willpower up to level 20. Basically, you just have to keep going. Most scrappers are just another squishy through the lower levels. Katana/Willpower and Broad Sword/Willpower are actually about the most friendly sets around for people new to scrappers, and give up nothing on top end power.

I'd read this guide for more information. It's a Broad Sword/Willpower guide, but you can swap the powers one for one and do just fine with some minor slotting differences.

Katana - finesse feel, very sexy, fast elegant attacks
Broadsword - powerful feel, very brutal, slow viscious attacks

Very similar performance overall, but I prefer katana because it's faster and easier to get a smooth attack chain from day one.

I could not decide so I have a Kat?WP and a BS/SD. Both are wonderful and fun to play.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

Both go well with late-blooming sets like Super Reflexes and Shields... well, only Broad Sword is compatible with Shields, if that influences anything.

You may as well make the decision entirely based on looks and style, there's not much else to worry about. Broad Sword has more customisation options and unlockables too.

I've just gotten my first BS hero up in levels. So now i can make an honest side by side comperison. (I already had two lvl 50 Kat's.)

In a nutshell, here it is.

Besides having different anamations and weapon skins...

Katana is faster. Alot faster. And does less damage per hit.
BS is slower. Alot slower. And does more damage per hit.

Katana, IMO, feels more "skillfull" if that makes since... Your guy feels and looks like a more refinded, skillful fighter..

BS is raw bonecrushing POWER. Brutal, raw, and savage.

IMO, Katana can reach higher hights then BS if you do the min maxing thing, but even still, there's just something satasifing when you drop a BOSS in one shot when you crit with capped damage... (I've taken PURPLE roman bosses to a sliver of health before, i KNOW i'd have killed him if he weren't pluse 3 or 4 to me...)

You won't go wrong with either. I'd say pack the "style" that suits you. Katana for a skilled warrior, BS for a savage brute.

If your wanting shields as a secondary, your stuck with BS. It's why i played it finially, and frankly, i'm sorry i didn't make a BS sooner. It gives a feeling of strenght i wish i could get playing my SUPERSTRONG tank... but hey, what can you do. heh.
