What exactly do you want to know?

Have you downloaded the game? Or having trouble logging in? Or having trouble with the controls?

If you specifiy exactly where the problem is, then I am sure lots of people will be willing and able to help.

Start by picking a combination of powers that sounds fun to you, with an AT that sounds fun to you.

Quick reference on the ATs

Heroes:

Blasters - Ranged Damage dealer

Controller - Ranged Controller

Defender - Buffer / Debuffer / Ranged attacker (much lower damage than blaster)

Scrapper - Melee Damage Dealer

Tanker - Melee Damage Taker

Villains:

Brute - Melee Damage Dealer

Corruptor - Ranged Damage Dealer / Debuffer

Dominator - Ranged Controller / Melee and Ranged Damage Dealer

Mastermind - Pet Class, Damage Taker

Stalker - Melee Damage Dealer, less duarble than Brute, but higher spike damage

Definately do the tutorial, and read everything.

I'll be on in about two hours, and would be happy to show you some ropes. Give me a server, character name, and side of the law, and I'll be happy to help you out. Provided somebody else hasn't already beaten me to it.

New story arcs coming soon (ARC IDs will be aded when I finish the arc):
So, you want to join the Hellions? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Sparks & Steel (level 5-20 Heroic arc)
and
So you want to join the Skulls? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)

Well, I'm not sure how to actually get into the game, I tried to download the client several times but i'm not sure if it worked.

What you should have downloaded is the City of Heroes launcher, thats a small program that will download and instalkl the actual game (this will take quite some time, particularly if you are on a slow internet connection). You should clik on it, and it'll pop up a little window and say it is downloading, then you'll just have to leave it til its finished downloading (and installing) all the game files.

The installation procedure should walk you through setting up a login and such. Make certain that you write down your forum login as well, since that's an easy one to forget amidst all the setup.

However, once you get the game booted up, choose a server (the list orders them according to "last played" followed by currently least-populated to most-populated.

Once you choose a server, you can create a toon. The toon setup walks you through what you need to know about archetypes and powers. Once the toon is finished, you have an opportunity to complete a tutorial, which is relatively short and highly recommended.

Oh, and welcome to the game!

Oh, well where can I find it?

Edit: Oh and thanks for the welcome

The download will be a small (less than 1 Mb) launcher. You should find it... well, wherever you downloaded it to

Actually, let's start over.

Log into the PlayNC website. You should have had an account made there (your "master account.") When there, go to the tab that says "City of Heroes" on the side.

You should see your account informaiton, saying it's a trial. On the right side, you should see a link to download the PC client. (Assuming you're on a PC.)

Right click that, pick "Save target as..."

Change "Save in" from wherever it is (probably my documents or my downloads) to Desktop. Then tell it to save.

On your desktop, you'll have an icon that says COHUpdater.exe. Double click that. It will ask you for an installation directory. Leave it as whatever it has set, tell it ok, and wait - it will download the program files and install City of Heroes. When it's done, you can delete the COHUpdater from the desktop. You'll be using the City of Heroes icon insstead.

Yeah that was the client I was talking about, and it wouldn't work. It said: failed to rename c:\program exe to c:\program files\mozilla firefox\cohupdater.prv (As you can probably guess i'm no good with computers :P)

Edit: Yes! I've done it! Thank you so much everyone!

Try this, once it has been saved through firefox, go to your desktop and you should see the City fo heroes icon there. Click on that.

When you are ready to get the full edition take the time to look at the versions available. There are more than one and each has different goodies.

For example the newest one the "Architect Edition" comes with:

• A serial code for account creation.
• Access to the full City of Heroes® and City of Villains® games via downloadable client.
• One month of game time. Activation with a valid credit card or game time card is required.
• Exclusive in-game items: Select between the Super Booster I: Cyborg pack and the Super Booster II: Magic pack.

The "Good vs Evil Edition" comes with:

• A serial code for account creation.
• Access to the full City of Heroes® and City of Villains® games via downloadable client.
• One month of game time. Activation with a valid credit card or game time card is required.
• Three exclusive in-game items: jump pack prestige power; "Pocket D" VIP card teleport power; new hero and villain costume pieces.

Also if you want the goodies from other editions you can buy them as well and when you add the codes to your existing account it will unlock the goodies.

The real nice thing about that is you get that additional free month each edition offers which in essence saves you $15 bucks so it's like your getting it for $5. bucks.

You can even apply the MAC edition code to a regular PC account. The code simply unlocks the MAC goodies for your PC account.

Once you have the game client installed and running, that IS the full game client. The stuff that you have, can do and access are determined by various codes you have applied to your Game Account. To get a full Game Account, you have to acquire a full "Game Code" either from a boxed game set or a game code from the NcSoft online store. The various game editions have ingame goodies that are applied your account: useful powers, costume sets or access to a Costume Booster set. The costume sets are a notch above the excellent normal costumes.

NOTE: Be sure to *UPGRADE* your Game Account with the Game Code. *UPGRADE* with the Game Code.

And just so you know Time Codes/Card are total different from a Game Code. Time Code/Cards only add time to a Full Game Account. Game codes upgrade you account to a Full Game Account and give your a free month of playtime as well.
