Strange teleport bind behaviour

Hey folks,

A long time ago, someone showed me the

/bind LSHIFT+LBUTTON "powexecname Teleport"

that makes you teleport wherever the mouse pointer is, by shift-clicking. The targeting circle never appears. On the first toon i used this on, it still Works As Intended.

Whenever i use it on a new toon, tho, entering that bind command as above... the teleport works, however i ALSO get the targeting circle. In fact, the circle appears as soon as i hold down Shift!

I'm not sure what changed. It doesn't really break functionality, as i teleport to wherever the point was: and for long travel, i can just click again to get rid of the circle (and teleport to it). If the circle is still there when i'm done travelling, Esc gets rid of it.

However, it's odd. I can't figure out what changed between Old Toon it still works on, and New Toons where the circle appears. Any ideas?

I have just tried it on a character, and it worked as intended (i.e. as supposed by you).

Have you tried to /unbind LSHIFT+LBUTTON and then rebind?

No, i didn't try that. It doesn't make sense to me, but i'll try it At some point the game's decided to give me the targeting circles back. I wonder...

It's possible that on the original toon, i didn't have teleport on my powers tray, but on more recent toons forgot to take it out before i made the bind. I seem to remember the person i got it from warning me to make sure the Teleport travel power was NOT in my tray when i make the bind.

Thanks for the suggestion.

When I've tried using that bind in the past, I always got the targetting circles. But you would not see it unless you happen to point it at some place you couldn't teleport and got the Angry Red Circles of Doom(tm). So I'd say the circles are "normal".

Personally, I like using the circles. For example, for my WS I just use:
/bind LSHIFT "powexecname Shadow Step"
I press the key, then click where I want to go. This prevents "undesired results" that happened to me while using the other bind.

I've always used an underscore between powexec_name when binding teleport. I use the F button for teleport. like this:

/bind f "powexec_name teleport"

This makes the F button bring up the reticle and then all I have to do is click the destination of the Teleport.

hope that is helpful

[/ QUOTE ] That's pretty much the same thing I do, except with a different button.

(underscores don't matter, you could use po_we_xecn_am_e and still get the same results)

I just noticed this behavior recently, but in the opposite manner. I have two older toons with the left shift/mouse teleport bind and on those the targeting circles appear when I hit the Shift key. I just created a new toon, used the same bind, and no targeting circle appears at all, just the normal mouse pointer.

OK, now i'm completely mystified

LISAR, you're psychic. I was just messing this and coming back to report, having has the same thought.

Nothing! SHIFT by itself isn't bound to anything, and neither is LSHIFT! But hitting SHIFT by itself activates teleport, and a click fires it! That makes no sense, and seems like a minor flaw in the bind system. The LSHIFT+LCLICK bind is being used as the LSHIFT bind as well.

If i hold lshift and click, i teleport instantly, AND have the targeting circles at the other end of the port. That is, the expected action occurs, but the Teleport target is still active - click again, teleport again. shift-click again, teleport again and still have target up at the other end. Just tapping SHIFT and nothing else brings up the circles, as if you'd clicked the power in the tray.

Ah well. If anyone knows what's up, i'd love to know, but i don't think i can get any further without knowing how the binds are interpreted.

I have the same situation. One of my original characters with TP uses that same exact bind and does NOT have the targeting reticule. All new ones I make using the same, exact bind it works as intended but does have the targeting reticule.

Not sure what has changed.

I still wanna know how

/bind LSHIFT+LCLICK

causes something to happen when pressing

LSHIFT

by itself. That seems like there's a bad assumption in there somewhere. In this instance, no, it's no big deal, but it might cause some really Bad Things if it isn't tracked down.

Probably because LSHIFT and RSHIFT don't chord. And maybe something recently changed it's behavior on when you do try to chord it.

Have you tried changing it to SHIFT+LCLICK and see if that works?

[/ QUOTE ] This. When you try to chord a key that doesn't chord, it usually just takes the first key.

That would make LSHIFT+LCLICK turn into just LSHIFT.

Binding it to SHIFT+LCLICK instead should make it work without the recticle
(but I personally prefer the Lshift alone and use my recticle. lol)

I have tried both SHIFT and LSHIFT variations with no change in behaviour, as mentioned above in the thread.

Also, my mm has this bind, and it works perfectly - shift by itself does nothing, holding shift and tapping lclick instaports. No target appears before, during or after.

edit: also... on my new toon with teleport, i made the bind. It worked as i expected, no target circle ever. I log off for the night. I log in the next day. Hello teleport circles.
