Today's Patch Makes Vista Crash Worse

I have endured the random driver crashes that apparently come with having Vista and a new graphics card, but it was only a minor annoyance. Until today. This morning's patch has aggravated this error so badly that I can't even get to the login screen without the game crashing. Thanks alot. If you didn't want my money, you could have just said so.

I'm assuming your video drivers are up to date and you have all of the latest updates for Vista?

I don't understand why anyone still experiences this crash. Anytime I had any issues with this specific issue, a simple update has resolved it. It would be interesting to see what exactly it is that causes this in the end. I bet someone (whether on Microsoft's end or Paragon's end) will slap their forehead when they realize what it is.

We'll see....

LoL, you've been here since March 2005... I think it's safe to assume you will continue to go out of your way and bend over and just keep taking it.

Or be like me and regret ever paying a year in advance six months ago.

As my accounts expire, they just never get renewed. Two left; one of them really soon. No more money from me.

Actually, I've been here since 7/04. I was just a forum lurker until '05. Well I won't be here if I am completely unable to log in. Tried the hotfix and it won't even unzip, I get error 40 messages. I'm frustrated and pissed right now.

Its soooo wierd.

I don't know why the vista experience is so different from one player to the next...

I have not tried playing since this patch, but I have not come across any of the problems anyone else has been having...

Sorry to hear about that OP, and moreso if we lose you for it. I hope the wizards of tech issues and bugs help you out.

Might want to post dxdiag and hijackthis logs so people here can see what might be causing the problems for you.

I'm running Vista and don't have any of those issues, so posting those logs may point out the problem.... just sayin...

All of my vista issues (and there were a lot of them) were resolved by upgrading to windows 7.

I started using the win7 beta when it came out and after fiddling with the graphics drivers went back to an old one that worked perfectly. This morning I installed the release candidate of win7 and the latest graphic drivers and for the first time in as far back as I can remember, it... just worked.

Windows 7 is free until June of next year for anyone who wants to try it out. In March of 2010 it will start shutting your computer down every 2 hours so for practical purposes it's free until March.

It's a 3gb download which might be painful but it only took me about an hour. I didn't even have to burn a dvd, just use winrar to unpack the .iso, click "startup" and go read a book for a few minutes. After installing the latest driver from ATI I fired up CoX and it ran perfectly.

If vista is driving you nuts give windows 7 a shot, even if only on a partition of your HD.

I get the same crash, though not as frequently. About once a day. All of my stuff is updated. Weird.

Funny, 5 computers in my house all run vista save the windows home server. All on vista 64 bit ultimate edition with service pack 2, full version from technet not the beta version.
I dont have any crash issues. 3 of my computers are laptops with ati and nvidia integrated graphics and no crashes.
My bet, you have a hardware issue. Possibly a cheap video card or a chipset fan not working.

Service pack 2? I thought that wasn't released yet?

It's in ...basically "open" beta.

[/ QUOTE ]No its not. Its released to manufacterers and those with an MSDN/Technet account. If someone has an ftp site or some place to upload to I would be willing to upload it for folks here to download if they dont want to wait weeks on the official download. I got it installed on my home system and it runs just fine. I am not getting any crashes like the OP either.

A deep breath may be in order. First, as I'm sure you can read the hotfix for Vista WAS from Microsoft so CoX wasn't the cause of the problem. Playing CoX exposed the problem but it wasn't because of something they did.

Second, I have 3 machines running Vista and running CoX. I had the initial crashing problem until I installed the hotfix. Now I'm fine. As others have mentioned, they all run Vista and are not having problems.

Finally, in saying all that I think you need to take a second look at your system. As someone above me has indicated you need to post some more information regarding your problem and see if people can help diagnose what is wrong with your computer.

Frustration is understood blaming CoX for the problem is not

I just re-signed up a few days ago, thinking I'd give this game another shot with some friends.

Before todays patch, it would crash maybe once an hour. Post-patch today it has crashed twice in 5 minutes.

Vista64, Q6600, GF8800gt, with the newest drivers and the hotfix (properly installed) suggested in a different thread.

I'm not rolling back my drivers (for many reasons), so what should I do? Just pay for this one month, play 3 days, and quit once again?

As suggested earlier post dxdiag and hijackthis logs so others may be able to help.

As to a few others in this thread, could we keep it to the topic at hand? Having an argument about Windows 64 bit is not helping the OP.
