Back Spawn Points a Little Wonky?

Okay, with two of my missions that I tested in my 5 mission arc, something that was supposed to spawn in the back of the mission spawned in the middle or front (one was a glowie, another was a boss). I'm guessing locations as best I can, but the glowie was right next to another encounter I set for the middle of the mission (and there was a LOT of cave left before the boss I placed in the back), and the Boss meant to go in the back was next to another boss I had placed in the middle of the mission.

There was also plenty of room in the "back," because both missions had normal spawns in the back near other encounters in the back. If that makes sense, heh. Both missions DO have ambushes, but as I said, there were normal spawns in the back, so I don't think anything could be crowding these "back" encounters forward.

Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong/need to fix? Or is this something wonky with the MA?

Reorder your mission objectives so that the Boss Fight is the first thing you put in, and set it to Back. This will force a Back spawn point to be used. Then put in the other objectives, keeping in mind that if you have filled all of the Back spawn points, any objective set to Back will then try to find some type of valid spawn point in either Front or Middle.

Also, pay attention to how many of what types of Objectives can be placed where on different maps. And be aware that even though the map window shows the floors as being consecutive numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, etc, the floors are actually placed in a different order due to Elevators etc. So that map may actually be ordered as floors 1, 4, 2, 3 or similar.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Some maps are weird. I'd recommend testing it by filling the map with objectives named after their location, i.e. if the map says 6 boss points (3 back, 3 front) you put in 3 bosses named "front" and 3 named "back", with their locations set appropriately. Then you can run through the mission and see where the spawn points really are.

And for a while things were cold,
They were scared down in their holes
The forest that once was green
Was colored black by those killing machines

What KeepDistance said. Patrols usually work correctly, unless pushed out of an area by lack of spawn points. But Bosses can sometimes be off, and glowies always test, especially when you are trying to place them in the back of the map. And keep in mind, outside maps are totally random, there is on front, back, or middle on them.

Haven't seen it recently (knock on wood), but while testing one of my arcs every medium-length tech map would sometimes (and only sometimes) put the one ally spawn designated as "middle" before the spawns designated as "front". Since my plot called for the tech maps, I eventually gave up and hoped that players wouldn't one-star me if they ran into the ally right next to the door, instead of just before the end boss as I had planned.

I'd been having trouble with the spawn points as well, but i was using a croatoa map. I hadnt been thinking about the map already having set area locations. I would have thought the devs would make it so that if the map become full in one area, the MA would make it so it was either known to the player, or become an invalid option choice. But i maybe in future issues. Back and front are also wonky to me, as a person can sometimes enter the mish near the back or the front, and so realizing that the "back" is the back of the map, instead of the back compared to where i entered the mish makes it awkward.

On one mission I made, a back-positioned boss was literally the first encounter in the mission (this was in a four-floor lab map, not outdoors). Seems something's slightly off about the MA's definition of back.

Good. Glad to know it's not just me having issues. I think, heh.

I think two of the biggest things I've seen that need improving with the MA (I know devs, it's never enough is it?) are boss spawning and spawn selection. I think that would answer a lot of problems people have been having so far with the MA, if this part of the forums is any indication, anyway.

Still quite good, but it'll be nice if they can tweak those things for sure.

What i would like to see is us being able to have a mouse pointer that goes over the map, and we can click a spot on the map and the boss spawns in the closest possible spawn to that, same with the other objectives like getting allies and stuff. It would be a lot less of a pain in the butt, and i know the devs can put their choices pretty much where they want, so it would be nice.

I had a map where setting it as "back" would have it end up in the middle, and vice versa. Just something to think about if you are having problems.
