copyright charcter question

I have made a mission in the AE "Spaced Invaders"56856 and it has been reported for "violation of LucasFilm character"

In this mission the characters I have are:E-Walk, Spaced Trooper, Martian, Gismo, Predatory, Wooky, Cling On, Bork, Dark Invader, Dark Mauler, Puke Litetalker, Yogurt and Ridicule.

Obviously they are all based on some of our favorite aliens. I though I would be ok by making sure they are all not their real names.

If anyone knows if this actually could get me or CoH into hot water could you let me know as I would rather remove that story than risking getting banned.

Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

While parody is a defense against a copyright claim (and so CoH probably wouldn't be sued and would definitely win), Paragon Studios has set some rules for the content in the AE, including "no parody". I wouldn't worry about getting banned...but my guess is that once it gets reviewed, it'll be pulled.

Now clearly, there's parody and there's parody. Many of the newspaper missions have references to other material, like "Peter Kent", friend of Unbelieveable Man, and Unbelievable Man's girlfriend (whose name escapes me). Would those past muster as AE creations? Maybe, but it's clearly a parody of a type rather than a specific character.

There's a term I've heard used about this sort of thing, "filing off the serial numbers". Using name plus appearance plus signature dialog means you are aping the character. But if it's a different name, different appearance, but it just happens to have some catchphrases...that's a reference.

Thanks for the explanation - think I will remove it just to be safe. I knew it was not destined for Dev's choice or Hall of Fame.

Keep in mind that (if this was in the complaints area) that this is a copy of what was sent to those in charge, not a message from them. They may or may not agree with the complainer. But, given the closeness of some of the names, they might.

Dec out.

There is also a movie called "Spaced Invaders," so that might get you as well.

I think that would get you as in Space Balls there was a character named Yogurt.
