File size too small

I would like the files size increased for MA arcs.
I have a story worked out which involves Outcasts. But I'm forced to lvl 20 max if I use the standard Outcast group. I don't want my missions to be limited by the lack of stamina, which happens if the difficulty is set higher then Level 1. (you get X'd down to 19 on higher settings)

So I tried to create my own Custom Outcasts, which could be higher then lvl 20. But a single mission, on a "Small" map took up 69% of my files space. I still have 3 more missions to create.

I've decided to abandon the arc I had planned. Non of the other factions fit what I had in mind.

However, aside from the very tiny file size limitation, MA is a very cool feature. IMHO.

I had to remove a 1/2 dozen customs to shoehorn my 3 mission arc into the file limit. (99.99% file size). It got down to stripping out words from clues and descriptions to make it work with the bare minimum. I filled some of the gaps with stock villians inplace of customs, but I made it fit. Its a bit of a pain sometimes, but there is a saying in engineering:
The product is complete not when there is nothing left to add, but rather when there is nothing left that can be removed.

Maybe if you're a very utilitarian engineer.

A couple things. Map size has really no effect on the file size. The biggest thing that determines the space used is custom groups. Have you finished making all your custom characters? Because if you have, or you only have a couple more to add, you mostly likely have plenty of space for three more missions, unless you add lots and lots of dialog.

A single custom character takes up not quite 8%. Check out some of the guides on the forums for more detail. I see no reason you should abandon your arc. With a little planning it should be just fine.

I know what yer saying, but Stock Villains would cap the missons at level 20. And that's for single players, on Heroic. I can't say at what point more teammates, OR higher difficulty settings would force the players down to level 19, but I can say that Unyielding is too high a setting for a single player. This will force you to lvl 19 and take away stamina.

I suppose I could substitute CoT, cuz they have many similar powers. But somehow, I figure a Popup dialog box that says "Just pretend those CoT are actually Outcasts, mmmkay? Well.. maybe if you squint really, really hard..." just wont make the magic of immersion work.

If you have a 4 mission arc planned, all using your custom Outcasts, you won't have to use 69x4=276% of your available space. If you tell the system, "Remember those Outcasts I made for Mission 1? Use them again in Mission 2," the system will reply, "Oh yeah, I'll just go back and access those same files again, I already know those guys."

The only thing you need your leftover 31% for will be mission briefings, objective placement, things like that.

There would be a problem if you tried to have different custom factions in every single mission .. but you're not trying to do that.

Finish that arc. You may have to keep your mission briefings, etc. short, but you can do it.

I have 4 types of custom Minions, and 4 types of custom Lts. One custom boss. I didnt think I had too much dialog, but perhaps I'll scale that back and see what happens. Thanks Lucianna

Alright. I'll give it a shot. Cuz yer right, I will be using all the same custom chars. With only the bosses being different from mission to mission. Thanks ICF_Zombra

Do it the other way around. Make your 5 missions using Circle of Thorns first. Then, with whatever space is left over, make up your custom enemies.

Woot! ok, looks like you all were right! I should be able to fit all 4 missions in the arc!
Thanks again for your quick replies!

Maybe it would be possible to allow people to upload "300KB" of arcs, rather than three arcs of no more than 100KB each.

It would let people have more than three arcs, or arcs larger than 300KB, and yet maintain the same limits that we have now.

You'll be fine. I have several 5-Mission arcs at 97%+. If I load all the creatures/Groups, objectives, it's about 85%. The text for everything (And I max out most of the text boxes, fill in just about every field) will fit in that last 15%.

Not pimping my arc, but if you want to see an example, look at arc 42221. 97% with 8 custom characters, lots of text and objectives, etc.

This is an interesting thought. I'm sure it would displease as many as it pleases, but it's something that has potential merit and would be worth investigating, I think.

I like this idea a lot.

And I have one published arc that hit maybe 70%. (shameless plug - Avian Escape) I just like the idea of being able to use "our" space however we want. I would say that Dev's Choice or HoF would only gain the player 100 kb of additional space.

Then we could see how creative we could get with the smallest space possible (I have 5 arcs in my 300 kb...) as well as make some really flamboyant enemies (10 minions, half a dozen lts, 4 bosses, an EB and a couple AVs, all with auras and costumes and -WEEEEEEE!)

Unleash the creativity!

The main thing to remember is, if you have any custom characters that will NOT appear anywhere in the arc, make sure they are not in the group with the characters that WILL. Otherwise they'll take up space that could be used for something else you want to include.

They call the addition of 'stuff' to a good design "feature creep". This is why Microsoft products are generally rather bloated and resource hungry, because the people designing them kept 'tacking stuff on' instead of sticking to the main purpose of the original design.

In other words, if you keep adding 'convenience features' to a Corvette, you'll end up with a fiberglass Winnebago that can't win races.
