Idea for New Scrapper/Stalker Powerset-Kung Fu

Ok. Before you ask, there is a difference between my idea and the already-existing Martial Arts Powerset. If you notice, most of the attacks in Martial Arts are kicking attacks. My new Karate idea includes more chopping and punching attacks.

Scrapper:

Karate Chop-A swift Karate Chop to the chest
Warriors Strike-A slower, but more powerful attack than Karate Chop. Can also cause Knockback.
Cobra Strike-Same as Martial Arts
Focus Chi-Same as Martial Arts
Crane Kick-Same as Martial Arts
Warriors Challenge-Same as Martial Arts
Dragons Tail-Same as Martial Arts
Flying Fist-Charater leaps at his foe and delivers a charging punch to his jaw.
Drop Kick-Character leaps into the air and delivers a devastating Drop Kick to an enemy's head.

Stalker:

Karate Chop-A swift Karate Chop to the chest.
Pouncing Tiger-Deals little damage, but causes Knockback and can paralyze a foe.
Mantis Claw-Sneak up behind a foe and paralyze him by putting pressure on a specific nerve. Deals minor damage, but can Hold him for a long time.
Assassin's Chop-The Assassin attack, a swift and deadly Karate Chop!

Focus Chi-Same as Martial Arts
Placate
Cobra Strike-Same as Martial Arts
Crane Kick-Same as Martial Arts
Eagles Claw-Same as Martial Arts

These are my ideas for the new Powerset. Tell me what you think and make any suggestions you feel necessary.

Sooo...7/9 powers are the same as the current power set? That is not enough to make it different.

If you want to make a new powerset that involves a combination of punching and kicking, then make a new powerset. Giving an AT a new powerset that is 7/9 the same powers as one that is currently in existence is basically just giving it two new animations.

Changed it up a little to make it more unique. If you have any suggestions for powers to swap or even completely new moveset ideas, then feel free to post them.

Please note that I'm typing this in a completely calm and rational manner with no negative connotations or insult intended.

Check out Lady Jade's thread, sift through that for a few hours and look at the powersets that have been suggested before about a new melee fighting set that isn't kicking.

Then -please- come back with a deeper suggestion than "Change two attacks for Karate Chops"

I emphasize please because I -do- want you to come back. You're concise and clear in your posts and have an excellent understanding of how to make yourself clearly understood. This is something many of us value in a poster!

So please take from this post only the words in it, not negative connotations which could be taken from those words.

It's a pity that, thanks to some people, a disclaimer like this is felt to be needed.

That said, yes, it's a lot of "Same as Martial Arts." Are you (the OP, that is) looking primarily for different animations than what's there? I know the complaint has come up in the past that MA is very "foot attack" heavy, that people would like to see their characters doing something with their hands.

This *could* fall under power customization. Alternately, I know a "Street fighting" powerset comes up as a request at times, too.

The only other way I see, with this much shared, is to do an SoA-like "Pick one choice, the other greys out," if the attacks are comparable. I don't see them redoing MA to incorporate this (especially shared with Stalkers - that might be a mess of a menu) but on the other hand... it could be interesting if they did.

With Boxing and Air Superiority you have your 2 chop attacks right there. Maybe expand the fighting pool (like with some of the epics) to get a judo throw and you'd be golden!

Yeah, it was a pretty good post, but as stated it just isn't 'thick enough' to warrant a true new powerset. Off hand I'm not conversant with the reasons that MA is the 'kick set', but a guess after reading this and many other similar powerset posts (and reasons why not), it may have something to do with player/object interactivity in game. Unlike console games where the interaction is baked into just a couple of models, CoX would require the Devs to recreate each attack with a variety of characters/objects. Too much work for too little gain is the end result, and not fiscally sound.

Also 'Kung Fu' and other martial arts don't even primarily rely on handstrikes or kicks; there are myriad grapples and throws also. I would guess that to get the flavor of a true MA set you would have to mix the MA and Power Pools eventhough that is just a workaround.

And sorry, no, I'm not a martial artist, but my best friend is a 3rd degree (dan/whatever) in a Chinese fighting system; so I'm only a little acquainted with the subject. I am a master of Snark soo Do though, but I only use my powers for... aw heck, I'm a villain, but a nice one.

The reason we don't have grapples is cause they would look incredibly silly with our game engine. I'ld imagine the reason MA is so kick heavy was because they went "Man those kicks are awesome...make sure you toss in some punching moves int he pools in case people want to mix it up a bit."

I'm not a dev thought so it's just my imagination.

Actually we have a kick based MA set because most of the other sets involve punches of varying shapes/styles.
