2nd Annual Bayani Open Commission (L4Volunteers)

Well I took last year off but this year I've been batting around an idea of getting another multiple character commission done, this time of Bayani running/dodging between a group of six villains. Sorta like a Spider-Man vs. Sinister Six kinda thing going on. I've been shopping around but I'll make no guarantees that this'll actually get done. The price has got to be right, the artist's got to have a style I really dig and someone I can trust professionally, and there are still other projects I have going that take priority. So here's the deal... I'm looking for five villainous volunteers who'd be interested in being in the piece. Post your character's name, reference shot, a short back history, and I guess to make things interesting, why your character could/should be in Bayani's rogues gallery.

P.S. Juggertha's already in. The dude deserves a nod in my book.

Cool, well then I'd like to volunteer Kim Paler

Back Story: Kim is in it for power. Doing anything she has to gain it, slaughtering anyone who gets in her way. That is why she joined Arachnos, climbed its ranks, and forced her way into Project Destiny. She doesn't take defeat very well. After Bayani took the Warburg rocket launch codes from her she got mad. When he stopped her from destroying a Longbow base, causing her to catch hell from Black Scorpion she got very mad. The chance to spike a claw through his heart is something Kim Paler is waiting for.

So, I'm new to the fan art forums, bear with me if I'm being obtuse...

You are looking for an artist, as well as villains to be in the piece itself? If that's the case, I'd be interested in doing the actual piece. Price would depend on the medium, as well as the complexity of the piece. I can basically pull off any style you are looking for, so I'd be happy to adapt to what you want.

You can check out my portfolio site, as well as my deviantart page here and here. I could create the entire piece in 3D, but that would jack up the price and time required considerably.

Obviously, since I'm a new comer here and on deviantart, I don't have a lot of pieces to reference. I would be willing to do a quick mock up of the main character with any guidelines you wanted.

Let me know one way or the other.

Oops, sorry for not making it clear enough. I was looking for just the villains really. I do have a few artists in mind for the piece already. Thanks for the offer though, I'll take it into consideration. I haven't been watching the forums closely or playing much in the past year so I don't know alot of the "new" forumites. This post is in the same vein as the post I had two years ago, calling for volunteers for a short cameo in the CoH-related comic book story I worked with Brandon McKinney on. I've kept Bayani's story fairly close to game canon and I've always felt that his rogues gallery would be more interesting with other players' characters in it. And with the economy being tight for everyone, I kinda like the idea of giving people a chance at free art for helping me develop a little more of Bayani's story. FireBrandi's entry is a great example of what I was looking for.

Ah, alrighty. That makes sense. I've just not been around that art forum very long, so I'm just looking for a way to "get my foot in the door" as it were. G'luck with the piece.

The Spear has broken.

When Zoe began her transformation, she thought she'd be able to handle it. She had to, one way or another. But killing her lover in a mock battle was the last pebble needed to break the fragile glass of her mind.

She had to get away. Her violent tendancies would appear at the worst times, and hurting friends was something she wouldn't have on her concience.. So she left, hoping to give herself time to recouperate and fix what had been broken.

Taking up the name Natusia, she fled to the Rogue Islands, as it was close enough to the city she'd come to call home, but far enough that she could hide from those she cared for. Besides, if she freaked out and killed a few villains.. well, who cared?

Of course, she has her own enemies.. and the Lash has a knack for confusing Natusia into doing her dirtywork...

Why would she fight him? Any number of reasons really. Tira might have made her do it. She might just be in a rage and he's in the way..

Tira The Lash would most certainly love to obliterate the pathetically insipid do gooder known as Bayani!

I am Tira, and my enemies have tried to give me a name they think would shame me as "the Lash", though I wear it proudly, while my true title is the Judge. Both names suit me. I am one who serves old, dark gods, I aid their attempts to remake this world, this universe in their divine hand.

Bayani, thought not of the order that I have sworn to kill, has piqued my interest and has impeded far too many plans. I shall remove him, for he is ajudged guilty, and as always, those found as such are condemned to the only sentance I give: Death.

My Spear, which claims itself broken, will be honed alongside me. Together, we shall see the end of this foolish hero.

Here's my submission for the piece:

Vhaasen:

Natural Stalker

Back Story:

His real name is V'Haa Sen Khi-Shen. Born in a war-torn dimension, his survival skills developed early. Living such a harsh existence forced him to make quick and calculated decisions early in life in order to keep himself alive and to get things he wanted. During his exploits, he learned of a project that allowed inter-dimensional travel and a way off his hellish homeworld. Upon 'procurement' of this technology, he discovered a docile world called Earth. He defines himself as "Natural" origin since he will not lower himself to be defined by human descriptions. He has the ability to channel and release energy during combat. He has also honed incredible reflexes and stealth techniques due to his upbringing. Realizing how frail humans are, his goal is to conquer as much as he desires. To Vhaasen, Bayani is nothing more than another faceless hero to defeat, and defeat him he shall.

Here is my submission:

Blackthorn

Plant/Thorn Dominator

Blackthorn hates Bayani because of wholeness through the control of his Chi. Fire based abilities are his bane and as a bully, loves teaching self-confident heroes a good lesson in humility (or try).

Back story:
Blackthorn's mutant abilities give him control over the plant life that surrounds him. And control, he does. He has no respect for life, except his. So he forces everything into submission. His combat tactics rely on ambush, chaos and control. He will attack you from afar, until he knows you are incapacitated. That is when he will come in for a reverse hand slap to the face.

Selfishness is a way of life. Arrogance and bullying is the means to his ambitions.

Signature elements: Sadistic smile, head tattoo, shreded cape and golden armbands.
Favorite saying: "It's time for chaos!"

Might as well throw my hat into the ring.

Timestepper
from the back...
...and in action

Nora Aeon is a woman quite literally ahead of her time. A version of Doc Aeon from an alternate steampunk dimension, she's very civil and polite. She doesn't give a damn what happens to anyone on Primal Earth as long as she gets home, but that's no reason to be rude, now is it?
She's a DB/SR/Mace Brute.

I can generate the energy needed to jump through time right from this armor, no more cumbersome portals or messy magic tricks, thank you very much. Naturally, I've been trying it out. You can imagine my immense displeasure when my latest experiment landed me here, 125 years in the future and in yet another alternate dimension to boot. You've no idea how hard it is to simply go back and forth in time on your own bloody planet. All I want is to go home, and this fellow seems bound and determined to stop me. Something about tearing a hole in the fabric of the universe. It's always something, isn't it?

Here's Goat Lord my elec/elec brute for your consideration.

Tanngrisner after many years got tired of waiting for Ragnarok to start. Out of shear boredom Tanngrisner came to earth to find a life of fun and destruction. While on earth he found a delicacy of metal to eat; he soon became obsessed with finding and eating all kinds of metal, in particular Freakshow metal. Soon afterward he becomes known as the villain Goat Lord.

As for why he should be in the picture.... Who wouldn't want a goat pelt?

The Bishop of Battle He's a rad/thermal Corr.
In game bio

Why would he be after Bayani? He is the founder and leader of a group of mercenaries known as The Majestics. He is not above supplanting the group's income with an occasional bounty collection. A hero the stature of Bayani naturally has many enemies in the isles, with the accompanying lucrative contracts placed on him. To the Bishop, Bayani's impending death is nothing personal, it's just business.

Oooh. Sounds neat. I'd be more than happy to throw Xer'Tul into the mix.

Xer'tul
Xer'Tul references

Bio:

Long ago, the mystic forces that governed the universe put into place a balance. One that would dictate the ultimate outcome of everything. After the balance was set, the beings responsible left the universe, as they presumed that the balance would forever be kept. Little did they know, the denizens of the universe would not keep to the Balance.

And so, an eternal struggle between the forces of the morally good and the morally corrupt began. Too late did the beings who created the universe realise that what had transpired could not be undone. If the balance were to somehow fall too far to one spectrum, the universe itself would enter absolute chaos.

It was up to the beings to find a solution - And so were born the Keepers of the Balance. Beings of pure energy, given physical form and a duty - To keep the Balance safe.
Xer'Tul was one of the ten born that day. With near limitless power, and the foresight to know what needed to be done, he and his cohorts set out to create order in what was now a mostly chaotic universe.

It can only be assumed that they succeeded, as the universe still exists this day.

The keepers of the Balance disbanded after their task was complete, each one governing over their own sector of the universe. It would seem obvious that Xer'Tul was tasked to maintain order in the quadrant that would eventually be home to Earth, as this is where he currently resides.

Unfortunately, he is not given the praise he deserves. As he has no true moral standings, he can make the choices that no one else can, to keep the balance safe. And so, neither villain nor hero truly understands him, nor do they welcome him.

Over the years living amongst the humans, Xer'Tul has developped a dark, brooding personality. His rejection has caused him to distance himself from anyone else, and thus, no one truly knows much about him or why he does what he does.

Why would he interest himself in taking down Bayani? Easily explained. Bayani is an anomaly in the Balance. His continued success against the forces of evil cannot continue, as it would upset the Balance that Xer'tul has strived so hard to maintain. It is by his hands that Bayani must fall.

Name: DownShift-PD1

Tech-based Radiation Blast/Kinetics Corruptor

The identity of the individual inside the armor isn't particularly important, and no-one's dared spend more than a few minutes trying to find out, regardless...; even his allies in World Wide Evil Inc. aren't entirely sure who he is, and if anyone does know, they're not talking.

The suit itself is a result of the theft of 3 prototype combat suits of armor from Tokoz Inc.(The theft itself has never been traced, but evidence implies WWE Inc.)...; the fate of the 2nd suit is unknown, the 3rd eventually became the LioBreaker Brute armor, and the original became the DownShift-PD1 armor known to be causing havoc around the Rouge Isles.

It's combination of Radiation blasts and Kinetic manipulation have led some heroes to call it a 'debuff monster', capable of reducing most opponents to a sitting duck, often as a means of setting up a teammate for the inevitable kill.

Most believe the reason DownShift-PD1 has been particularly aggressive in hunting for Bayani as of late can be traced to a rather heated(pun unintended) exchange between the latter and WWE Inc. execs; while it never came to blows, retaliation was considered all but assured, and now the form of that retaliation is waiting for the perfect moment to strike....

Sounds fun .

Fallen Thunderbird - Super-strength/Electric Brute
Once an ordinary woman kidnapped by the Cirle of torns to be made into a hollow vessel for returning spirits, she was instead possessed by a spirit of vengeance. In a berserk rage she killed her tormentors and set about a rampage across Paragon City and the Rogue Isles that continues to this day. She'd be happy to assist in tearing a hero apart . She's still a bit bitter about not being rescued.

Not that I expect to make it in, buuuuut....

Baroness Samedi - (Costume Reference)

Jean-Marie Bautiste was always meant to be a priestess of voudoun, and was groomed for the role from a very young age. When she reached puberty at 15 and her body blossomed from a girl to a woman, in a 3-day rite, she was 'introduced' to Papa Legba, the Loa of Death and Transition. She came out of the frenzied dance/ritual an extremely fit, sexually charged dervish, yet within her eyes shone something powerful and dark. From that day on, she was able to predict when others would fall sick or die, and also 'boost' fertility of women in her village. It was said that if "Maiden Samedi" spent a night with a couple, they would conceive.

During one of many of Haiti's civil wars, word came down from Papa Doc Duvalier that the "Maiden Samedi" needed to disappear, as he couldn't adopt the role of "Baron Samedi" with a real houdoun doing a better job of it. The task was given to one of his young recruits, who wooed her, courted her, married her... then shot her point blank in the face with a .22 derringer that he'd concealed in his tuxedo cummerbund. The shot went slightly wide, and struck Jean-Marie in the right temple, scarring her face and shattering the bone, but not penetrating. She dropped as if poleaxed, and the would-be killer bolted.

Jean-Marie woke up from the week-long coma a changed woman. No longer cheerful and friendly, an iron mask covering her shattered cheekbone, she had been consumed by the Samedi persona, cruel and sadistic... and wielding magics that up to that point had only been spoken of in legends.

Her husband was the first to fall to her Touch of Death, his face frozen in an expression of eternal terror. Several other victims followed, until an entire squad of Tonton Macoute was dispatched to kill the woman. They found instead a casket with Samedi's body, already cold and prepped for burial.

They didn't realize, she only LOOKED dead....

A month later, a woman claiming to be "Mary Baptist" rented a room in the French quarter of New Orleans. She had an anodized stainless steel plate covering the right side of her face, and was said to be dour and unfriendly, but an excellent soothsayer. She made a decent living selling 'love potions' and other voodoo paraphernalia, but then was discovered to be blackmailing several of her clients. Arrested and tried for larceny, fraud, and extortion, she was under escort to the Louisiana State Prison, when she escaped, her guards all dead of what appeared to be fright.

Several more appearances followed, in Atlanta, Charlotte, New York, then Paragon City. A run-in with a hero in Paragon landed her in the Zig, where she was placed in a warded cell (and forced to wear clothing with anti-magical runes sewn in). She languished there for ten years, completely blind, until the very first Arachnos 'breakout' occurred and her wards were broken.

"City of Heroes. April 27, 2004 - August 31, 2012. Obliterated not with a weapon of mass destruction, not by an all-powerful supervillain... but by a cold-hearted and cowardly corporate suck-up."

What's a hero without a rogues gallery to make conflict intensely personal? The way I see it the extra five I end up selecting would end up harboring a really intense personal hatred to actually come together and ambush the dude.
