Whether or not you'd like to defend him as a friend of the community, friends don't bail out on thousands of dollars of commissions without so much as a word.
If he's in serious health condition, someone near him can just as well make an effort to tell people about it and pass along information. The last I heard he was getting better every day and happy to take more commissions - even though he'd never finished many more.
I will reiterate: that is unprofessional and just because people might find his art great or his outward personality nice? It doesn't mean that they shouldn't take this to court. It IS theft, it's breaking a legal contract, and if he can't at least say "I'll pay you back" or "I'll finish the commissions in the order they were received" - he's stolen their money plain and simple. One token effort at asking if people want their money back - and to my knowledge (which is limited I will admit) no one got either a piece OR their money - correct me if I'm wrong - is not enough to prove he's worth keeping around as a professional contact.
Real professionals don't pull stunts like this, and yes, it's a stunt. Everyone knows that TA collects art, his collection is *epic*. Would you really think you'd want to be the person who is stuck with the title of "paid but never finished" on that collection?
Doesn't matter if it was a 50 dollar sketch or a 500$ piece, it's a contract to finish, and they really do have a right to ask for payment back or their products as promised in a timley fashion.
Hell if I were Gill I'd turn the money over to other artists and get THEM to honor the contracts if anything. Just to have the pieces done.

Ehhh as much as I enjoy Dramah , this is rapidly becoming a lynching complete with lynchmob and folks bringing their kids out solely for the festivities .
There is a point where we just move on,I think we hit it a good several posts ago .(By move on I mean move on from bashing him on the forums , by all means continue to try contacting him I hope it all works out )
I don't disagree that things have likely gone south and been handled poorly for whatever reason buuut this is my normal area
for rest and relaxation and we already know Gil can't post to the forums due to him being unsubscribed to CoH .
so other then folks grousing is there something we are shooting for here ?
I mean if this thread is simply about complaining and naming names at that , I can launch into several tirades solely to start internet blood fueds and forum jihads :P
Should I expect a thread every time a commisoner or artist drops the ball as thats gonna get old fast .

The only reason MMO Art is getting bashed here so badly is due to the extreme number of unhappy customers that feel ripped off.
Eh considering that no one is supposed to be using the CoH forums for comissioning purposes im not sure I see the need to use them to bash people whom you have comissioned .
Ok i wanna print a retraction 
It hasn't been 3 years, it's been a lil over 2 years. The Deathdealer piece was the one that was 3 years and he did that one for me. Also there were three of em with one that i forgot about. So i posted the 3 rough drafts in my scraps section of my DA gallery and you can check em out from there if ya guys wanna. Thats about as far as i'll ever see those pieces anyways so i might as well have em somewhere in the gallery. Still though, 2 years is too long, but i am gonna end my part of the conversation here. I am not posting a link to the pieces as a couple of em would get us modded 
Also thanks Scarfy! Yo're right and i didn't mean to sound like i was bashing them anyways. Just putting in my 2 cents. Oh and Aot is 37 over on Virtue woot! 
Nah im not implying anyone specificly is bashing but its easy to end up with a mob mentality on the forums espescilly on a slow lazy weekend .
As noted things have very likely been handled badly but this particular thread went from the rather benign "Where is the MMO art crew " to the rather powder kegish "They have cheated me lets string em up and tar and feather em ! "
Which isn't likely going to force them to log into the forum to respond .
I do hope everyone is able to recoup their money and wish everyone the best in that regard .
I am past that now. Seriously, I have stressed over it too much to take it further. I wish everyone on the queue(which by the way i wasn't even on the queue) the best of luck in getting their art or money returned to them. For me it's all done.
I sincerely hope all is well for Joe and Kiesha though.

Looking over the roughs at least two of them are pretty well along have you thought about having them finished by someone else at some point ?
I think with a good inker and colorist you could really make those pieces sing , granted you have lost out a bit on the original deal but when life gives you mud you should wrestle
besides it might be intresting to see someone elses colors and inks over the pencils .

I think priceless is far enough along that a decent inker and colorist could complete it (which often times is the same person )
Moment of weakness is likely a wash though as its in a very rough shape , where if another artist got handed it they may use the rough for their interpretation but thats about it .
Yeah thats a possibility guys but really at this time i can't afford to have another artist go into it. Those pieces are pretty rough and would take someone alot of time to tune up. That time should be compensated and i am just plain broke! Otherwise you'd still see the steady stream of art going into my gallery like before.
It's true though. I know at least the 'Nectar of the Gods' piece could be finished up by someone. Also i should point out that the 'Priceless' piece was a piece that Rowr, Kat,Alty and myself all went in on together.
Thanks though guys and your right. Given the time and resources, those pieces could be salvaged, at least 2 of em could anyways.

Well last time I checked Gill had a contract people signed when they commissioned him that did not allow them to alter the work in any way (including coloring his linework). The only reason I mention it is that it would suck if through some weird turn of events you had another artist finish one of these pieces and then you were forced to remove it.
I will also probably be open for commissions in the near future. Here is a recent black and white piece I did:

The thing is... Gill himself would have broken that very contract, by not delivering what was paid for. So I don't think he would be in any position to contest it.
But that's me.
And I may have to look over the contract/commission info he has posted. If he doesn't have methods of redress already listed, then... yeah.

Poison is still around , still does art and still actively plays on Virtue , you can find him on his namesake at odd hours .
I think Virtue may well have the highest concentration of hobbiest artists and professionals .
