SUPERGIRL digital sketches (3D render tests)
*peeks around, sees nothing*
Sure you didn't draw Invisible Woman instead?
That Powergirl is great.
Ah ha!
I do like. And being 'sketches' they look good! I do hope maybe you will loosen up the spandex some? Kinda doesn't look right but that's just me and who am I to say anything *goes back into my hidey hole*
neat! I especially like the Supergirl on the far left - reminds me of the mod '70's era.
now, this is just me, but i think Powergirl's chest is overly large.
Very awesome pieces, though the Linda version of SG seems a bit off on the hair, to me (too poofy, maybe?)... but outside of the DCAU, I was never fond of that look/personality for her anyway, so I may just be biased.
Power Girl, though, looks AMAZING.

It's not, really.
The original artist/creator, at one point, started increasing her bust size every issue to see how long it would take before someone noticed what he was doing.
Nobody did.
Therefore, poor Karen having an exceptional front presence is sort of canon now.
Lookin good as always DJ. I like how you have different hairstyles for each one as the various supergirls have had.

Great work as usual! The face you've chosen for SG is just wonderful--the Power Girl is powerful and gorgeous--so many people fail to catch her feminine side and tend to draw her too mannish--yours is spot on though.
Amazing, I can't even dream of having some of the talent I find here.

Yeah, Power Girl is known for being extremely busty. It's one of her character traits, like Superman's curl on his forehead. Funny thing is, others have commented that she isn't chesty enough... so it's all a matter of taste.
I tried to keep it tasteful and reasonable, but (ahem) admit to having made some pretty extreme renders to test the size. Ah... I love my work =)
They all look great...
Personally, I like the SG on the far right. Kind of a blend of old - original colors - and new - belly top and flipped skirt.
Maybe it's just that I like when my wife wears stuff like that...
Edit: Oh.. and 'extreme' renders?

The one on the right is her current look, in both Superman and Legion storylines. That's the one I feel is the most accurate.
Is there any way to view deviant art images in anything but tiny thumbnail size? This image like every other deviant art image is tiny for me, and doesn't change when I click on "full view", which only redraws the page in the same size. I even made a deviant art account of my own but I still can't zoom anything. You guys are talking like you can actually see the art, so I'm guessing some kind of Secret Knowledge(tm) must be involved. Induct me into your cult, oh unsquinting ones!

I'm not sure what setting needs to be changed, but it sounds like you're doing it right; click on the image and it blows up to full size. Maybe something in your preferences?
Beautiful work Doug. The faces are gorgeous and I love the muscle ton you have going on there. The clothing looks fantastic as well. Fits the characters really well.
Wow, I should read this section more often. I had no idea you posted here! My girlfriend will be excited when I tell her. She absolutely loves your Serra Angel art, and I have always loved your Demonic Tutor art.
Your CoH inspired stuff is amazing as well!

Those look lovely...
You forgot 1980's Supergirl from Crisis on Infinite Earths with the red headband.

I didn't feel she was different enough to warrant her own model since I could create her in under 10 minutes. However, if DC calls me and asks for one, I'd be happy to oblige.
DC... call me.
Hm. But what about Apokolips Fury Kara? Short arc, but it was a pretty interesting look. >.>
What about Catgirl Kara? Everyone always totally glosses over THAT episode.
*someone whispers in my ear* ... What??? They never showed it? *more whispers* whaddya mean the writers rejected it? Why I'll show them... *ruffles up my sleeves and heads to Hollywood*
wow i looked at ur whole gallery and just wow its amazing stuff and if u ever need character ideas >.>

Whenever I model new characters, I end up testing htem in a bunch of different poses and lightings to make sure the models is holding up to scrutiny. When I started on Supergirl, I wasn't sure which version of her I wanted to make, so I ended up modelling 4 different ones in a single day. Power Girl is pretty straight forward and I only needed to create one of her.
Anyway, this is a 'look over my shoulder' to show a character in progress. Consider this a 'digital sketch'. I might post a full piece or 3 of Supergirl and/or Power Girl in full images later this week.
