Discussion: Positron Q&A on the XP Smoothing
Thanks for the XP changes, Posi. I think one of my SG-mates said it best: It feels like they've finally released the parking brake.
"I never said thank you." - Lt. Gordon
"And you'll never have to." - the Dark Knight
I made a new blaster, and the new curve hit right around level 20. I've since played to 35 without the usual slowdown. It's been a nice change. He dies all the time, but I've hardly noticed the debt at all. I don't know if that's a good thing, but there it is.
I have to say that I hate the new increased experience and reduced debt. I managed to gain 12 bubbles and went from lvl 14 to lvl 16 in one mish last night. That included dying once. Needless to say, I will not be completing any story arcs or enjoying a great deal of content.
I personally don't really care that much about lvl 50 content. My greatest enjoyment comes from leveling a character up to 50. Playing through the story arcs, trying out powers at different levels and fighting a variety of villains. Powerleveling up to 50 and relying on Ouroborous missions and exemplaring to perform those functions ruins the game for me.
My other main gripe is that the latest iterations of the game have reduced the challenge level so much that it is no longer challenging or fun. Debt can often be retired by fighting one big mob. Suicide attacks and outright stupid play have been pretty common in the groups I've played in since the patch went live. Not really much fun. Combine this with the fact that any group with a herding tank and a healer can sleepwalk through most missions without being hurt and the game loses a great deal of its appeal. I would prefer a game where I didnt have to exclude entire archetypes from my team to make it remotely challenging.
I play the game for a sense of challenge, reward and fun. I'm not in favor of massive level grinds, but at the same time when it is too easy and you miss all the story content, it is not much fun. Lvl 50 content is much less important to me because I generally have all the powers I want by lvl 32 or 35. Very few archetypes have powers that excite you after lvl 32. Levels 35-50 tend to be used for sheer enjoyment of my effectively fully powered character. Plus the game has some serious min/max players at that level and grouping can be really boring and unchallenging.

Just let me know what missions you want on Ouroboros and I will do my best to get them there.

I would love to see a variety of non-arc/badge content added. They should simply have a flag or note in their description that they will never show as completed. I think this is a great way to expand the use of existing content.
Speaking of content - I cant play on my Corr in Sirens Call currently with the blaster bug allowing me to be one-shotted. Please give me my PvP back as soon as possible.

I wish he'd answered the concern some of us have about the impact on prestige earning, with people reaching the influence penalty earlier.

In Issue 12 (no release date yet, sorry), we are going to have you never dropping below 50% Inf. earn rate when in Supergroup mode. We will look at the impact of that change and base future alterations on that.

I was looking over the measured numbers of the change, and had a amusing observation.
As most know, the hardest thing about PLing is finding a bridge, a level 45-47 characters to SK the lowbie. Because of this, 45-47 are constantly hit with bridge requests. If you're willing to take them, it's very easy and fast to fly through these levels very quickly.
XP buffs were based on how long the average character stayed at that level. The quicker the move, the less the boost was.
45-47, moving more quickly because of bridging, thus got less of a buff than they otherwise would have.
Therefore, the actuality of this change specifically boosts bridge xp less, so they can bridge (relatively) longer. Thus the hardest part of PLing was granted a special favor.
I just find that amusing.
