New Nike IX Arts!

$100-$150 is not unussual at SDCC, but that's for artists generally doing titles for the two big companies right this moment - meaning most of the commisions they are expecting to get are from the books being published that they draw for. The Pat Gleason pice in my gallery just clips the bottom of that range and I had to stare at his samples a long, LONG time before I decided to go there. I'm sort of a bargain hunter at heart, so $40-$65 is where I can ussually find some nice work. It helps to come in early at the show and bee-line for the artist alley. Many of the big name folks who are doing comparitively cheap pricing have a short list of spaces for each day and it's first come, first served up to the daily limit. If you go again, I TOTALLY recomend the Moy brothers. They do stellar con pricing. I'm sure you've noticed coloring, background, and multiple characters can run the range up fast. I'm fortunate with Nike that she looks good in B&W. If it was a color-intensive design I'd have been out a -lot- more money .

I totally would too. Unfortunately it's hard to find people that make them where I am happy with the faces. The couple that I did find were so far out of my price range I'd have to win the lottery to consider it.

Heh. When Figure-print or someone similar expands to games other than WoW, I am SO gonna be out a few (hundred) dollars. License to print money, that is. That is THE add-on industry for the MMO boom.

I doubt for CoX since the animations aren't as easily accessible and broad as WoW. Also the CoX costumes don't have much thickness like the WoW gear does making it difficult to make a solid model every time. However we'll have to see if CO has a system that is more doable.

I am really enjoying this gentleman's work. The detail on the fingers is remarkable, and he went and did some research of his own on the villians I wanted in the piece (the diabolical Malta Group) and came back with a request to change the backdrop to a Kronos Titan hanger - just awesome. Here's an intermediate step .

JCSD is at it again

I'm getting a few color previews for the Nike vs. Kronos piece, but I'm gonna wait for the completed colors before I post it. Sufice to say it's mighty.

Adam Withers sent out the inks for his piece today. Colors to follow.

I have about 20 more sketches from the San Diego Comic Con. These are some quick photos rather than scans, so I appoligize in advance for the crappy light. I'll replace these with proper scans eventually .

Batches 1 and 2 from Comic-Con~

David Nakayama (He did some of the the CoH Comics. He was doing free headshots at the con. I was about 16th in the line to get one and very excited )
Ron Lim
John Watkins-Chow (This was his first take on the character.)
John Watkins-Chow (This was his second attempt after muttering 'I could've done better...' when he saw some of the other peices I was carrying around. Seemed like a good idea to let him have another go and it turned out to be one of my favorites )
Mathew Clark
Phillip Tan (I love how matter-of-fact this one is. She's very real in this piece.)
Kim DeMulder (Funny story - this man was the Kubert School art instructor for several of the other artists who did pieces at the show. Seeing his work and me mentioning I was going to have him grade their pieces seemed to help sharpen their concentration considerably .)
Pat Gleason (I'd been enjoying his work in Green Lantern Corps - something I realized only after he had started the piece and shown me a rough .)
Fredie Williams (Proof that the slighly cheaper "bust only" price can still get you a damn fine piece. Possibly my favorite face of any of them - somebody is about to get handed a beating I think .)

More on the way !

nifty, one day I'll go to one of those Comic-Cons...wouldn't mind getting some quick sketches like yours. Probably stating the obvious, but I like the sure answer I assume you bring a screenshot of your character for them to reference?

I love artist alleys, and the SDCC alley is well stocked. For that show I put together three collages of cropped screenshots, so about 10-11 images total. Enough to show off the face, costume design, and proportions from several angles.

And another piece by the recent art-board favorite, Brandon McKinney .

I reorganizing my main folder as I've learned how to use my cammera to take better shots of the pieces I've collected. I also have a lot of new art from this year's San Diego Comic Con that I am slowly getting uploaded.

that's REALLY good!!

"City of Heroes. April 27, 2004 - August 31, 2012. Obliterated not with a weapon of mass destruction, not by an all-powerful supervillain... but by a cold-hearted and cowardly corporate suck-up."

I was pleased. The face is so clearly his style .

He only does 4-5 pieces at the show so there was some waiting in line early to secure a slot. Last year he did 5... and I was the 6th person in line. Made for a good story when I was first in line this year .

Nice piece by Terry!

Terry's a cool guy to talk to. I've only gotten a sketch, actually two due to him sketching Wonder woman first when I asked for Maggie from him, but he's so reasonable. I saw him at SDCC two years ago at his booth right before he was going off to do some signings in the DC booth, so he advised for me to be back at the booth later. I arrived at that later time, albiet behind some people who had been waiting there already, so I just stood behind them. It was like 5 people so no biggie. When Terry arrived at the booth, he told the people standing there that I was there earlier and he let me scoot forward to front of the line. I kinda felt bad, as he didn't half to do that. Luckily I just hada small pile of WW, Spidey and Witchblade comics to get signed and then the sketch. I asked about a commission info, for next year, since this was like Saturday. he gave me the info. Very personable guy. I haven't gotten a chance to get to a convention where he's been there, so I haven't had a chance to take him up on a commission. If I do I so would liek to see his version of Maggie. Glad that you've gotten him commissioned

Thanks . That was sort of a surprise for me too - one of those random wandering through DA scores. I accidentally posted this to my old thread (lots of broken links). I'm moving all the other new bits to the other thread.
