New Nike IX Arts!
I would challenge you to a duel of art whores, but I already have one pending with Thor's Assassin and Rowrsie is still waiting in line too. So many enemies so little time....
I've seen some of the price tags associated with TA's pieces - and yours . Graver is impressive but too rich for my blood . If you're ready to square off against TA then I'd be the art mouse at that table - running around and picking up tastey crumbs as you two duke it out would count as total victory at my scale . I'm looking at Douglas Shuler's 3d stuff and it's tempting, but it's also way above my ussual bracket. I missed Terry Dodson by -1- place in line, but there's always next year .
...and if my dreamshot plays out (I'll know in March), it's on . *fingers crossed*

I totally envy you now Morgen...
I just started my arts collection for Summer, and to perform an idea like this is totally awesome. I hope I can pull this off at a comicon or something similar one day

It was tons of fun . And very last minute too. The year before I had done a smaller version, taking references around the artist alley for a DC comics character named Phase (from L.E.G.I.O.N.). That worked out pretty well, with I think 6 or 7 pieces. This year I was kind of at a loss for what I was going to do at the show. A friend suggested I do a repeat, but with pieces based on my CoH character. So I rummaged around in my screenshot folder, put a bunch of pics on a thumb drive and left for the show. First night (we arrived early) I went over to Kinkos and put together some collages and printed 6 sets. The rest of the show was a non-stop whirlwind of meeting and talking to artists and showing everyone what everyone else had done, buying top-loaders, and just generally going on an arts rampage. Turned into a great show . Once I had 4-5 pics in hand, the artists seriously started competing against "the stack" and turned out some really cool stuff. When you get comments like "Hmm, I'm thinking of a composition and pose nobody else has done yet..." You know you've got some synergy going . It was also really gratifying when several of the monthly comics artists for the big companies complimented the design *preen*. Overall I think everyone had a good time.
Nice Pat Gleason piece... any luck on the guide?
I liked that one too - very mischeivious and spritely. He did some neat stuff with makinga light, even grey with graphite dust and then using an eraser to create highlights in the clouds.
My search for the guide turned up nada. there are some how to guides in the guide to guides, but nothing about optimizing your settings for a clean, high detai shot. I'll look at mine again, as I think I will remember there being two key changes I made. In fact I know one of them includes turning on the bloom effects, which normally I kept shut off because I didn't like what it did to the scenery, but it does improve character graphics. One sec, I'll try to find the other one.
EDIT: Um, maybe playing with your anisotropic filtering. I run at x8. x16 chews up my frame rate.
Thats a lot of arts!

Two more from the show !
Jeffery Moy (He's always a really good sport at the show. I've been getting a piece from him every year for a little while now.)
Jim Pascoe (one of two painted pieces ordered at the show. Still tracking down the other one .)
Wow, those last two are great!
Turning into a great collection, congrats!
Almost to the end .
Scott Kollins (A quick sketch with a neat angle and pose.)
Ron Randall (Classic hero feel .)
Very nice - congrats again!
You know you don't have to fill your collection all at once - you can spread them out over a few months.

Knew I had seen your character somewhere, then you I hit the Bokuman piece and thought "That's where I've seen her".
Great collection you've got going.

Thank you . I just found the piece Transfuse did for you. That thing is awesome!

Lol. I took all the photos at the same time. I'm just cleaning and prepping a couple for display every evening. Once I'm done with the San Diego stuff it'll slow way down and you'll start seeing a few more artist names from around these parts as pieces are finished.

The Moy one is a little more buxom than I usually envision her, but the face and pose are sweet. The halo effect is a nice, quick way to fill a background.
I have one image of the painting at an earlier stage. It's funny, that artist was very particular to tell me that all his paintings look terrible at some point before they are finished as he builds up the layers and colors (I guess he's scared a few customers who were standing over his shoulder at shows). The end product was very nice though - luminous with the moonlight.
I see your que is just about cleared, Juggertha. Ready to take another crack at her ? She's gained an aura since you saw her last, so I'd definitely check the new references.
And now, true to the tittle of this thread, a NEW piece just arrived
Grumpygoat (I LOVE the reflection of her powers on the suit - I wish the game did that and framerate be dammned!)
New animation-style piece on the way from Dan Shoening .

Thankee .
I noticed you've racked up a fair number of pieces, including a metric slew of the 100 in 100 project. And I've seen several Ms. Frost pictures that are over the top awesome .
your helping figure out who to go to next for my commissions! nice stuff!

Glad to be of service .
And an update on the animation-style piece.

I've requested a few small tweaks, but dang...! *whistles*
What an awesome collection you have going so far. So many great pieces, congrats on them all!
Got the final colors on the animation piece. Defender powersets don't really lend themselves to "main character" roles, so I guess it would have to be some sort of hero team cartoon, but I'd totally watch that show .

Um, wow!
That turned out rather better than I expected from the quick description I provided .

Wow... Is right.... also.... DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG!!!!

Here are a few more from San Diego~
Kim DeMulder (Funny story - this man was the Kubert School art instructor for several of the other artists who did pieces at the show. Seeing his work and me mentioning I was going to have him grade their pieces seemed to help sharpen their concentration considerably .)
Pat Gleason (I'd been enjoying his work in Green Lantern Corps - something I realized only after he had started the piece and shown me a rough .)
Fredie Williams (Proof that the slighly cheaper "bust only" price can still get you a damn fine piece. Possibly my favorite face of any of them - somebody is about to get handed a beating I think .)
Hope you like !
