Dennis tensed (Well, as much as a spirit can tense) as he overheard the remarks of the Sword Duo. Dennis wasn't nearly on the intellectual level of some metas, but by no means was he stupid, and he picked up on the psychological tactic fairly quickly.

Now, due to his ethereal state, if Dennis really wanted to, he could detect basic emotion in his companions' souls, basically being able to tell what their base mood was at any given time. He decided to give the Duo a good scan due to hsi new found suspicion.

Needless to say, he found nothing.

Not a trace of any emotion was to be found in the souls (Or, rather, lack thereof) of the two Vanguard operatives.

Again, needless to say, this worried him.

"Dusan..." He suddenly whispered, flat-out muting his comm. "You know the Sword Duo over there?" He vaguely gestured in their area.

"Yeah, and?" Dusan responded, equally as quiet, having picked up on Dennis's serious tone.

"They have no souls. I don't know if they sold it or are just robots or whatever, but generally beings of that nature have malevolent intent, especially if they've been keeping it from us. Not to mention, they're playing mind games with one of our comrades." Dennis's face grew dimmer by the second, his translucent mouth sliding into a near perfect semi-circle pointing upward. "Not exactly the sign of a good comrade."

Dusan got a half-worried look on his face, the other half quickly turning to panic as he gazed at them, intent on finding a trace of a soul. "Damnit..." He replied, turning back to Dennis. "You're right..."

"Dusan," Dennis said, grimly, "I fear this is a trap..."

So is that their game? Things may just get a little more interesting then.

"YO! Quite gnit-picking and start doing something. Search the ground, look for some clues or something there's a reason it brought us here, or you can play the lottery," Dax squatted down and lifted an eight-hundred pound boulder off the ground and tossed it 45yrds with a flick of his arm.

The boulder smashed into a wall 45 yds away, and smashed right through it, which gave way to several crashing noises and tinkling delicate objects.

What sounded very much like a suppressed groan of extreme pain echoed forth from it.

Dax looked around at the other metas, "Did anybody else just here that rock scream? This is like one of those things off Ripley's"

Dax started taking quick, clipped steps toward the building.

Energon X remained where he was, studying the ground. One of the advantages of being a Blaster was not needing to get up-close and personal when things went Wahoonie-shaped. If there was trouble at the groan-point, he could do his damage just as easily from where he was.

He widened his field of perception, seeking dimensional ripping, subatomic energy traces, and all the various indicators of super-science that would conceal someone in plain sight.

Bladewing listened closely and heard the muted groan of pain again.

"Hmmm, rock dont usually groan, mayhap the inadvertent rock toss uncovered something."

Vanishing in a trail of dust Bladewing appeard at the opening the boulder had created, looking for the source of the noise.

BIC: "[censored] hell..." muttered Ghoul as he clutched his head where the boulder had hit him. There was a long, black gash across his bald skull that matched the other cuts on his equally bare chest from being tossed into the building by Babbage earlier on.

Never having fought Clockwork before, the brute had underestimated the flimsy looking machine and subsequently paid the price.

"What the hell happened?" Ghoul said groggily as he shaded his eyes and looked up at where Bladewing stood in the hole.

((You're telling ME?

Alright people, I will admit up to this point that the RP story has been fairly inflexible. That ends now. Why? Because the certain actions I needed to take place have now happened, and therefore, anything that happens afterwards is irrelevant to the outcome I was seeking. In short, I apologize for any grievances on my part that caused others trouble because of their actions. Now you may do as you wish freely, and again, I apologize for any unfortunate occurances up to this point.))

What they saw through the wall was...interesting.

The entire place was obviously a shelter or camp of sorts put together from stone slabs to resemble the wreckage of a medium-sized building, and that would probably deter exterior examination. The inside was a large open space filled with tents, various tables, posts that held up the ceiling, a few small areas blocked from view by what were obviously improvised walls, and a few poles stuck through the walls probably used for observation of the outside world.

And the entire place was lousy with Vahzilok.

There were hundreds of them. Perhaps a thousand, all cramped up into this tiny space. (The entire camp was only about one hundredish or so yards long and thirty or so wide.) Cadavers and Abominations filled most of the available space, barely leaving ANY room for navigation by the many Reapers and Mortificators. A couple of Eidolons could be spotted by the back wall, where the various reanimated corpses slowly gave way to a large horde composed mainly of Mortificators. Where there was space, there were improvised operating tables, chemical barrels, surgical equipment, or survival gear. The place was quite devoid of flies, however, which was odd. They usually swarmed where ever the Vahz went.

The boulder had apparently impacted Ghoul, (he had been tossed against the camo-wall during the fight with Babbage) who had been in the process of being helped up by a pair of Reapers, (who thought he was one of their abominations) who were now frozen as they stared back at everybody through the breach in the wall.

Every head, dead, reanimated, or otherwise, turned to the hole to look out.

Things got so quiet you could have heard a mouse squeek.

And slowly, the Reapers dropped the dazed ghoul, (who gave out a tiny grunt) and put their hands outward at chest level. The universal sign for peace. Or about anyway. Instead of whipping out their crossbows instantly like normal, the various Mortificators simply eyed the group wearilly, and the various shambling corpses merely continued to stare lifelessly. The Eidolons remained, unreadable as ever in their normal positions, and many of the Reapers were slowly backing away as far as possible from the breach.

No attacks came. No lethal projectiles were on their way. The Vahzilok almost looked scared. Frightened.

"Hmmmphm, fist we get suped up clockwork, then a very POd Babbage, and now pacifist Vhaz...what is this world coming to."

Bladewing sighed, turned, and ran back to the Soulhound.

"False alarm, just a bunch of pacifistic Vhazilok....yeah I know sounds unbelieveable, but it actually is true."

Assuming siting lotus, Bladewing let his senses stray into the realm of gravitic fields and universal energies, reaching for anything in the place that the Soulhound was indicating, hoping that the city rep was still emitting a gravitic signature.

((Oog... the 'friendly Vahz' aspect may not fly so well with E-X. He's more than a little sensitive about them, thanks to his disfigured face and some of the run-ins he's had with them.

For now, I'm just going to say that they're out of his line-of-sight and keep him out of the action, because his reaction to finding the Vahz camp (again) would be... well, boom (again).))

Vahz? Pacifist vahz!? Great just what I need undead tree-huggers.

Dax looked around at the others still standing by the soul lizard. "Well lets go roll out the 'We aren't gonna kill ya unless you piss us off matt' and see what the hell these guys know."

Dax cleared the distance to the camp in a single leap. He stuck his upper body through the hole and said with a smile, "Howdy ya'll me an Little Joe decided to mosey on over here from the Ponderosa and see what all the fuss was 'bout" Damn I do a good Hoss impersonation

((The reason for all the video game and movie influences is because that was Dax's main way of learning about our culture.))

"...the [censored]?" cursed Ghoul as he hit the ground with a thud, cracking his abused head on the floor.

Ignoring Bladewing for the moment, Ghoul started rubbing the back of his head in annoyance as he got to his feet. Standing at his full height, the brute stood about two feet taller than the obviously freaked out humans. His glare prompted one of them to hold both hands in the air in a gesture of surrender.

"[censored] dead-heads," Ghoul spat as he grabbed the surrendering Mortificator by the collar of his shirt. "You grave robbers're only good fer one thing..."

The darkish fumes that constantly dripped from Ghoul's hands suddenly convulsed and shot up into the human's flesh. The Mortificator's eyes rolled up into their sockets as a great gash opened up on his head and started leaking blood. The front and back of his shirt also became stained with blood as a mirror of Ghoul's wounds appeared on him. But then his wounds closed up, leaving the Vahzilok lieutenant with the unfairly gained injuries.

"That felt good...." Ghoul drawled, drawing out the last word as he let the human drop to the ground, where he proceeded to bleed out. "Now, what say we inaugerate our little meetin' with a severe BEATING!"

A powerful uppercut sent the second Mortificator flying where he came to a stop on an abomination, knocking the synthetic undead to the ground. Ghoul's eyes widened with glee as he followed the man, both fists aching to tear into the walking corpses on either side of him.

Darkvapor walked towards the hole in the wall, covering the distance in moments.

While he didn't show it physically Darkvapor was very much in tune with his surroundings now. Much like how bats see by reverberating sound off of solid surfaces he began to rebound invisible dark energy around the area, his finely tuned senses detecting the dark energy, forming a mental radar of the area.

Beneath his dark hood red eyes flared. "I will only ask you this once Vahzilok worms, tell me where the city representitive is, or I will make the last moments of your life miserable."

Despite how arrogant and smug he may have sounded, he was more than capable of handling the situation without the aid of the task force. Still, the Vahzilok would mistake his cold logic for arrogance and most likely resist.

As such he began to build up dark energy around his fists, ready to blast the nearest Vahzilok should things get messy.

Dusan, at that moment, had happened to be looking away from the collapsed wall, howver, an overpowering stench a few moments later had convinced him to at least figure out its source, after which, he discovered it to be a camp of Vahzilok. Automatically tensing, he detected a non-aggressive nature in their spirits, giving him reason to loosen up.

Dennis seemed to have come to the same conclusion, as he had no sonner shouted, "It's OK guys, these guys aren't-"

"... hostile..." Dennis slammed his face into his palm and shook it with deep annoyance. "OK, let's completely [censored] up a rare moment of peace with senseless violence..."

Dusan, however, had a differnet plan. Using his mastery of souls, he gave Ghoul's soul in particular a strong wave of passiveness, for the time being. It would depend on his willpower how effective it would be, but normally, it would convince someone who was fairly [censored] off to at least sit down and take a few deep breaths.

((That ALMOST sounded like an insult, Devious. ALMOST.))

Karl, standing unseen right behind one of the improvised cubicle walls, swore inwardly. He REALLY did not want to have to resort to violence with these people. He could probably bring down one of them, maybe two, before being force to flee.

Fortunately, he was prepared. His skill with poisons, non-lethal and otherwise, gave his acess to a wide variety of tricks.

-----

That's when Ghoul ran right over the Poison Trap and sprung it.

It was specifically designed to spread and infect victims with the Vahzilok wasting disease, while at the same time, healing those with the proper surgical implants. (In other words, Vahzilok.) Most metas were completely immune to the nasty virus.

But it still packed a potent punch in the form of sapping energy right out of its target.

Ghoul suddenly became EXTREMELY tired, as though he had run ten marathons. He felt his immense strength begin to falter dramatically as well as his endurance was drained dry in a matter of moments. While his Murky aura would have normally protected him from such effects, the sheer amount of application and re-application of the poison as it soaked into his skin and was absorbed into his body was staggering, and could even floor his seemingly boundless energy.

The Vahzilok, regardless of whether or not Ghoul had been halted by the trap or not, all scrambled away from him as fast as possible.

To make way for the Eidolons.

Ten of them towered above their undead compatriots elsewhere, their arms crossed, looking just as emotionless and creepy as ever, and they were all glaring rather murderously at Ghoul now, although they still did not attack.

"Stop!" One of the Mortificators amongst the crowd cried out to Ghoul, almost pleadingly. Most if not all of the human members of the Vahzilok camp had hands on either crossbows or butcher knives now, but were making a point of not drawing them or aiming them.

Everyone seemed to be completely ignoring Darkvapor.

If the Sword Sorcerers had their scanning abilities still, they would have read something odd. Around two thirds of the Vahzilok group appeared be of an unusually high threat level. Equal to them in such terms, while the rest were of a normal threat scale. Mostly it appeared that the Mortificators, Reapers, and all the Eidolons were currently much more powerful than they should have been, with a good deal of the abominations being a match as well.

OOC: >_> Ghoul doesn't have Dark Armor, Diov. Second time you've made that mistake.

BIC: "Mother [CENSORED]!" bellowed Ghoul as he went down on one knee, one fist pressed against the ground to help keep him upright.

The poison trap had caught him completely by surprise as Ghoul had never heard of any Vahzilok using such a thing. However, if the Vahz had hoped that putting their attacker in a moment of extreme weakness would cool him down, they were wrong. As was Dusan, who's soul pacifying ability didn't work at all. This was somewhat odd, as Ghoul did have a soul that he could sense. This might bear further investigation.

Breathing heavily as he glared up at the Eidolons, Ghoul completely ignored the one who had talked.
