Just to close out this issue, since my other replies got nuked when _Rose's_ abusive posts were modded:

While the people who put it together weren't around early on a Sarurday morning, I did some looking and some poking around, and it looks like:

When they put up a list of events in the Scoop, they go by the event calendar. If someone didn't flag their thread for the event calendar, it probably got missed. As of this morning, Even though Rose has a thread for the event in the Event forum, it wasn't flagged to show up on the calendar for the date I saw. Even still, there is plenty of time to get it into next week's Scoop. Whether it happens or not I can't say. Personally, just because of the tone of the one remaining reply, not to mention the ones that had to be deleted for being total flamebait, I would vote no. It's probably a good thing that it isn't up to me what goes in that section.

End of story I think.

Maybe if you weren't so consistent in trying to cause problems instead of solving them, we wouldn't have to go back and forth when it comes to things you say and do.

Just got this reply from Mantid:

FYI, I pull the next two weeks of events off the calendar, so that's why there's an 8/5 event listed.

Her event isn't on the calendar as far as I see. She must have missed the disclaimer that's been in every issue of the scoop since Issue 4:

[ QUOTE ]
Make sure to list your event threads in the forum calendar to be listed in the Scoop!

So tell me again, exactly whose shortcomings are we talking about here.

Meh. I was just typing something up for that LL.

Anyhow, I do pull the events off the forum calendar for the next two weeks sometime on Thursday. So to be included in the list, it should be linked to the forum calendar by Wednesday.

Most often I do skip over "Its my Birthday" links and events that are listed but have no thread associated with them, as they are often reoccurring events that, more often then not, turn out to no longer be valid when I tried to contact the event's poster.

That said, we haven't really provided a way for people who don't list their events on the calendar to be included in the event list. As such we will add contact information for those posters in next week's issue.

Enough you two. I think, atleast last time I checked, sources of information, and media, were suppossed to be unbiased. Lemur, while you have a strong distaste for rose's attitude, she has a real event, that should be shown, whether or not you like it, it is for a good cause. I did not see the posts that rose said, so I can not comment on that, but bias is not something that should be tolerated in a newspaper, luckily, it wasn't your decision if it goes in there, or not.

Don't scold me for standing up for myself and this project when someone doesn't follow the rules and then complains they're being cheated, when none of it is true.

I was all in favor of going out of my way to make sure any oversight we made would have been corrected. I've spent nearly an hour today checking into the matter and trying to solve Rose's problem. Then, when it's been shown more than once that the problem lays with Rose and not us, all we're met with is further abuse. At that point, no one should have to tolerate that, and people who decide to treat anyone that way shouldn't be rewarded.

ETA- Rose decided to make it very personal, so my personal opinion became part of my response. Regardless of that, I thought I made it clear it was my own opinion, and even then I didn't say it in a confrontational way. Maybe I shouldn't have said that, but there's a hell of a lot more things that shouldn't have been said coming from the other side of the fence.

Sigh...
Lemur, you dont have to be all buddy buddy, and you dont have to let yourself get kicked around, what I am saying is that you showed favoritism. Its a slippery slope, you have your bounderies now, but what happens in a month from now? Will you be the tyranical ruler of the city scoop, only allowing friends who you know to be interviewed, and only allowing certain servers to be included, because one server is worse then the others in your eyes? Many medias have fallen into this area, and thus are biased. I am telling you this for your own good, and nothing else. Now if you outright claim that your focusing on ONE server, or the East coast ones, so be it, but you are feeding this too every player in the game, (if they all read it) You won't please all of them, but if you show favoritism, most of them will get mad.

(correction on previous post, it say shouldn't be tolerated)

Lord, hyperbole strikes again. There's really no realistic way me expressing my personal opinion and making it clear that it is such and has no bearing on the case at hand can be construed as favoritsm in any realistic sense.

Ok Lemur. You have your opinion, and you will express it. I get that, and so will everyone else. Because of your title, and the thread we are in, it would be rather simple for people to assume that you are speaking on behalf of everyone at the city scoop. You are basically a dev. Except a dev of a newspaper. Everything you say will be looked at, to see what the city scoops opinion is. Is that fair, or even correct? No, but you have the word editor in your title, and people will think every word out of your mouth is the city scoop code of law. I was just giving some helpful adivse about favoritism and bias in newspapers, and you seem to have taken it personally. Sorry for any confusion.

This seems to be an issue blown entirely out of proportion. A few too many "knee-jerk" reactions, if you will.

I can understand Rose's desire to publish events he/she feels will be fun for or improve his/her online community, but I can also understand why Lemur would want to uphold the rules that the Scoop has to adhere to in order to provide a fair production for the community as well as defend himself when so publicly and loudly derided.

I think this whole issue should have been handled more personally, through PMs and e-mail.

I'm not sure which city scoop yer readin.
The city scoop that I ignore regularly leaves freedom out of just about every section.

But Rose, its ok, see nobody on freedom reads the city scoop anyway. In the future though we gotta rememba don't expect the scoop ta help promote Freedom's events.

We just gotta keep'm ta the server's forums.

once AGAIN, wanna thank the scoop for droppin the ball.

What? my event not original enough to cover? Got a PM from Protea asking if it was ok to do so - late Thursday nite. Which was way past deadline. Do you actually need permission to post something that's obviously been advertised? So you pick n choose which server events you are gonna post? Why do think I posted it in player events- if I didn't want to advertise the event? guess Freedom events just ain't good enough for ya.

[/ QUOTE ]

I would like to step in and say a few words.

Rose, it was my idea to try to cover your event. I was hoping that this could be a kind of olive branch given our rather colorful history. However, I didn't start the ball rolling until it was too late for last week's Scoop, partly because I was unfamiliar with how the Events section is run, and partly because of real-life concerns that were keeping my attention pretty focused elsewhere.

I stumbled upon your event on Wednesday, but didn't get a chance to send you a PM until Thursday night. I was hoping that if the stars aligned correctly we could sneak in the link in the "Upcoming Events" section. I agree that this was pushing the deadlines, and I should have made it more clear in my PM that though the 7/28 issue might not have a link to your thread, we could still make sure to list it for the 8/3 issue, and still give some publicity to what I feel is a very worthy event.

I would like to point out that your response to my PM focused mostly on the idea of covering the event itself as an article, something we could still do. I read into that response the idea that you weren't so concerned with getting it listed in "upcoming events" so I didn't try to press Mantid to alter the final copy of last week's Scoop. That would, I felt, have been somewhat presumptuous of me, both towards you - since you didn't explicitly grant me permission to do so - and towards Mantid - for forcing him to change the layout at the last second.

I also should apologize for not letting you know that we pull events from the events calendar. The fact is that I didn't realize that was how we did it until Friday while I was debating whether to push Mantid on the idea of redoing the layout. At that point I should have sent you a PM explaining how things worked, but again real life intervened and I lost track of our conversation until someone on the Scoop reminded me today.

So, I have now apologized for several individual lapses, and I think all those apologies were justified. At the same time, Rose, I hope you realize that your tone and attitude towards the Scoop is hindering the ability for us to work together to promote this event. The Scoop is made up of many fallible individuals like myself working on volunteer time, and if you don't help us correct problems when they occur, it makes it far less likely for those problems to get corrected.

Does your event belong in the Scoop's listing? Yes. Were there opportunities for the Scoop to realize that a good event was going unlisted because it wasn't in the events calendar? Yes. Were there opportunities for you to discover why it wasn't listed and correct it on your own? Yes, there were, and still are. List your event in the calendar; that's all it takes.

Great issue.

Was good seeing Behind the Mask back...also enjoyed the column on roleplaying and the piece on Brutes as well.

Again, City Scoop is doing a bangup job keeping us informed and entertained.

I want to apologize to the city scoop....
when i posted the event.. i didn't change it from private- which would be why I can see it- no1 else can. Tempers flared because of history. When I am wrong, I am wrong - I apologize

Thank you Rose, that makes me feel better.
I'd just like to say that if there are any future problems, please consider asking about what happened, instead of jumping on us like there is sinister intent. I think it will work better for all of us.
