The Conscious of a King (A Clockwork Tale)

My theory has it that if he were to operate a more powerful, more complicated form, he would wind up losing control of a lot of his hordes. A lot of junk would just simply litter the streets.

My take on it was the Inevitable, a Clockwork warrior with a heavily armored, articulated body. It was covered in winders that CK had to rewind every couple of minutes, but they powered the body's abilities to fly, through lightning, and wield the triple-blade propeller "hand" as a weapon. Since the actual motor functions of the body were powered by the winders, CK still had control of his Clockwork hordes.

However, if he were to still maintain his original body, he would probably lose control of part or all of his hordes because of the concentration involved in keeping the Inevitable going. Also, because of the effort to keep the new body running, CK lost a lot of his psychic attacks, though those could have returned in time as he grew more comfortable and efficient with the body (which he was never given the chance for; he was torn out of it after trying to kill Blue Steel, then Penelope Yin destroyed it when she was remotely piloting it against Ghost Widow).

So, that was my take on a new body for the Clockwork King...

My spin on it would be that CK's ramshackle body is a reflecton of his self image.

Or it could be that his madness keeps him from making a more perfect body ... or it might be that his powers only work on scrap metal and junk, essentially ... and that he wouldn't be able to animate a more refined form ...

I would like to see what you come up with, though. I did play around with the creator myself to try to see what CK as the Clockwork Kid would look like ...

[/ QUOTE ]

I was thinking much the same thing.

In the third Kid Eros comic (still to be screenshotted; the first is below and the second "in the can"), the King projects himself into the psychic plane, the place referred to in the Carnie arc, "Upon the Psychic Plane." Because the psychic plane is supposed to reflect mental states rather than physical reality, I felt like I had to come up with a unique rendition of the King, one that reflected all the aspects of his mind. I haven't built the character in the costume creator yet, but he's described in words as "a young man in armor with a scar across his face, glowing with energy." That is, he looks like the armored Clockwork Kid described in BlueBattler's story, but his face is horribly scarred, mirroring the mental scars on his psyche. Of course, I also wanted to shock Kid Eros (and the reader) by having the "real" King look suprisingly different from the brain-in-a-jar we all know and love.

I'd really like it if there were some damaged robotic parts available in the costume creator, so I could extend this idea further, but it looks as if the face will have to do for the moment.

Kid Eros in "Crush" will appear as soon as I get the screenshots taken and find a new place to host my comics, probably sometime in the early fall.

Fantastic Fan Art Award of the year.

This was a truly epic tale and I am damn happy to have read it.
The clockwork has allway been one of the groups I was very interested in , and your take on CK and his story was masterfully composed.

To describe a Archvillain so human and sadly was epic.
I feel compelled to compare your writing skills in this story, to the movie making of Der Undergang where a human side of Adolf Hitler is shown.
Not a easy job to pull off.

Thanks for doing it.

Wish I'd found this story earlier.

It most certainly gets my vote for being made CoX canon.

Just found this story, and I think it's fanastic. I also agree that it should be made canon.

I just want to offer my praise for this fantastic story, and advise people never to do what I did the first time I read it, namely, log on and do the LGTF. Yelling "NOOOO, DON'T HURT HIM!" at my team was disconcerting.

Thanks, guys.

Petey, I know how you feel. I just keep hoping that sometime the game canon will establish at some point that Penny does care for CK and appreciates his getting beaten up on her behalf ...

Wow. This was the most amazing piece of fan fiction I've ever read. I feel like a total dork, but it actually made me cry. Astounding work. I fully support any move to get this written into the canon. I don't think I'll have it in me to ever beat up Clockwork again, let alone their noble, tormented creator.

I can not say the right words to express my feelings about this story... and I speak three languages.

I must leave it to others.

That was awesome, I hope that maybe you could use the new mission creator to make this in game. That would be sweet.

Great story. I cried too. Awesome. Its always nice to see villains fleshed out and given more understandable reasons for their behaviour. I add my vote for canonizing this. Thanks a lot, this gets added to my massive and growing list of Reasons Why I Love CoH.

Whatever I might say has been said before by a whole ton of other people. This was simply an amazing piece of work and I do wish it could become canon.

Maybe someone should send a link of this to Hero 1?

Statesman said let there be heroes, and there were heroes.

Lord Recluse said let there be villains, and there were villains.

NCsoft said let there be nothing, and there was nothing.

I sent him a link to it when I first finished it.

I suspect that its length may have kept him from reading it.

The guy does have to work, after all.

Also, they may have plans of their own for CK and Penny ...

If it's to be evidenced by the end of the mission where you rescue her from the Rikti and Clockwork in the LGTF, then their story borders more on the psychotic stalker side.

Which, if I'm not mistaken, will eventually lead to the psychic clockwork king reality.

I likes it. I likes it alot. ^.^

I have to admit I was really disappointed by that scene. Neither of them came off well. CK came across as Psycho Stalker Boy and Penny herself came across as insensitive to CK's feelings, at best.

I much prefer my version.

Just so everyone knows, I have been pondering how to adapt this story to Mission Architect. Hopefully I'll come up with something that everyone will enjoy as much as they have this story.

When I14 is in Open Beta I'll be posting a request to have some volunteers run through it for me. Hopefully, some of you would be willing to help me out.
