Part 5
Taking a short break, 2 more to come though...

I always though it was a Murder of Vampires.
But there really should be someone fact checking those...
PS: These are freakin' hilarious.

If you went by them being of a batty variety.... it would be a Colony of Vampyres. Sure... not as funny, but that's what it is... a colony...
I still like the style and I like that you finally referenced Marcy, but I just can't find the funny in most of these... I don't know... it's like they are very in jokey. *shrug*
Part of the humor is based on this thread, where I asked people to respond... other jokes are ongoing, and some are yes "inside' ones between friends.
LJ
HeHEHE! I'm loving these!
And YAY, Frost is gonna get herself some new clothes!
I lve City of Nuts. Keep them coming. Please

I'm still laughing after reading all these. Brilliant stuff. This was a great idea. I may be biased, but Krar's was the best and made me actually laugh out loud...
"Most of your opponents don't require standing on a phonebook to hit you in the knees..."
Oh...that's priceless!

I think you're missing that this is more of a COH character parody than a Peanuts parody.
Keep em coming, LJ!

Well, I don't really know what to say to that. It seems rather obvious to the fact that it is a CoH parody.
I looked at the characters, but I'm going to guess that I just lack empathy for other's characters. I've been told this on countless occasions and I suppose that is the problem here, though I'm really just going to rack it up to it not being my kind of humour in this case seeing as how caring about the wants and needs of characters doesn't seem to fit the bill in this one.
Maybe I'm missing the more important nuances or maybe I'm just a fool. I'm certainly not here to play devil's advocate, so I'll just accept the fact I have an odd sense of humour that rarely commingles with that of others and we can all go on with our lives.
I'd say your just a fool

I can certainly see where you are coming from. Many of these are in jokes. I don't expect anyone to get the one LJ did of my character, Kilotonnage, unless you grouped with me. I do however know enough of the people in this fine art community that I do get these in jokes and they really are clever and funny. Great job LJ keep em coming!
The thing is my initial idea for this one was to separate all the toons by archetype, and have "key" members lecturing the others on how to do their jobs. For example Kilo who is a premiere Tanker could easily teach this class online.
But this concept required way more drawing than I have the time for or wanted to attempt... So I scrubbed it.
I had already drawn about 9 random people, all in a line, and I felt that "that" as a graphic could be funny if for instance they were in front of one of those humongous caves, facing 20 mobs, and they were all debating on how to attack, who should be first and what strategy if any to use. I thought that could be really funny, if no one knew until the last frame what they were facing... and I won't reveal the punchline cause I still intend to use a variation of it for this one.
But again, even that concept was not drawing friendly, and I didn't really know all the different archetype attacks. So I made this thread, and I asked people to list their favorite first attack, what it looked like, what their origin and archetype was, and what was their favorite and least favorite mob to face.
From that came this current idea. Lord Recluse would be giving a slide show lecture to his minions on how to face the City of Nuts toons, and they in turn would respond with their input. Originally none of the toons were going to have dialog, but how could I pass up having them say something about themselves.
Buck Nekkid's in my opinion is a strip all on his own, as is Turkey Lurkey's, because graphically I don't have to explain a half naked angel or a turkey dressed up as a superhero.
But if you read that thread, and I initially had this in my DA journal, so I could get responses from some of my other COH friends. I took what they said, added my own, and in some cases like Celtic Bolt's, his gibberish, is actually every 7 or 10th word I could find, in the response he sent to me.
This one is very "in joke" because the concept while broad, would only fill one frame or two after I finished it. To add more to the ongoing "situation", I had to make it personal, include things everyone in this particular forum knows (like Turbo loves her scythe, Kheprera's toon is a goddess and not just a heroine, and that Krar is only 4ft tall)...
I tried drawing most of the response of what people posted, if I didn't draw it, I talked about it or tried to imply it, and while my "[censored]" (g -a-y)take on the Freakshow is extreme, I'm certainly not trying to [censored](ga-y) bash, because to me humor is humor.
This being a fairly adult board, I was a little worried about the sex jokes from CON 3, but was told that it wasn't a big deal. While I would love to use profanity in some of these, sometimes it doesn't really need it, and I didn't want people to think I was a misogynist or sexist...
I could certainly repost each of these with little arrows along the side referring to all the in jokes, but I didn't expect everyone to get them all, unless they kept up with the first thread, the previous CON strips and had met each other in game. For the most part, everyone who's replies has... the "new people" I included this time around were fun to draw, I do feel bad about the people I missed, but my list was already at 47, and asking more people on was already stressing me out.
So I'm sorry you don't find this funny, if I knew what your kind of humor was, I would attempt it, if I knew what your toon was like and you had responded to my earlier thread perhaps you would have not posted what you said.
But I find the purpose of you saying these are in jokes and not funny to be detrimental to me. You took the wind out of my sails with that comment. While not your exact intention, what good does it do to say it that way?
I could do more universal comedy, but it wasn't my goal in this one to do that, surely you could tell after reading the first 4? Or had you? I don't know, maybe you only read the last one... the Marcy joke was there because I thought it was funny to make her like Marcy, and to have Recluse say so. It was never to make this a Charlie Brown parody directly, which I try greatly to avoid despite the obvious.
Today you say it's your own sense of odd humor, and your lack of empathy about other characters, and that you're not playing Devil's Advocate. I don't know, I think I would have preferred a direct insult to what you say is your problem.
I have no reference to "who you are", while you have the freedom to comment openly about something I put a lot of work into... So with that I am forced to leave you out of any attempted in joke strip, and I can't help but feel I should never attempt another...
Well that's my explanation, please let's not turn this thread into a flame war... I'm going to go finish the 2 additional parts I promised to include, and then I think I will take a break.

Don't let one bad apple spoil the bunch. He even admits he might be the problem. Look at all the praise your work is getting and roll with that.
I have to agree with you when you said that it serves no good to say it that way. Some people can't help themselves though.
I have to agree with Kilo - he's one person - and admittedly an outsider in the field of the in-jokes.
People who don't get the in-jokes *are not in on them*. I don't even get half of them. But I'm willing to just look at the ones that are there and LAUGH because they're still funny no matter what.
I really do think that your stuff is hilarious, LJ, and remember this addage:
If one person says something, that's their opinion.
If ten people say the same thing, there might be something to it.
So you've got one lonely guy telling you he doesn't get it. And about 3 dozen others telling you they do. Go with the masses. If he doesn't get it, he could have *stopped reading them* just like any other thing he doesn't get.
The reason I replied to E's post and said exactly what I said, was "you finally referenced Marcy". Finally? This isn't peanuts world. That's where I think E's confusion has led him to think this strip is something it's not. As that Marcy character (heee lol! but I call no one 'sir!') I felt the need to intervene. I don't think you get it, E, so ..... kindly step out to another strip and enjoy it to whatever extent you can please, but LJ's parody isn't for you, clearly. b'bye. You hurt LJ's feelings and place what everyone else has really been enjoying at risk. None of us care for that. We all want more.
*slavering fangirl* I want more.

I agree with Zekiran and Kilo. These are really funny. I don't think you should stop, LJ.
You guys are using some pretty harsh words to refer to EchoedRespite. One Lonely Guy? A Fool? C'mon guys, he just doesn't get the inside jokes (and lets face it, that's almost all they are) so it's certainly NOT his falt for not laughing nor is it anyone elses.
I think he was being rather polite and just stating what he felt, obviously no one is going off on each (at least yet) but it might be a better idea to not use negative undertones to describe people, whether you ment it to sound that way or not.
Let's all just be happy with the funny that is City of Nuts and leave it at that.

I think "one lonely guy" was referring to the fact that he was one person compared to a lot more. Fool was a little harsh, however.
I'm sure One Lonely Man was ment to cause less arm but it was the use of the adverb that was not needed. One Lone Man would have worked just fine and sounded so demeaning to EchoedRespite.
