Taking ONE request

Comrade Hero

I have to do a lot of work at home this week, and thought it'd be fun to tackle someone else's character.

The catch? I only have time for ONE. Also, my style is... not exactly comic book style.

I've put up some examples of my work on my DA site.

(Note: I am NOT the player of Virtue's Reiraku - I've been using the alias for a decade.)

Because there's only time for one picture (this week, anyway) I'll have to pick and choose between requests - I'll take the one that I think I'm most likely to do justice to.

What I need from you...

* Screenshots
* Tell me about your character - theme, ideas, story, personality... Anything that might help me understand what they're like.
* Everything else being equal, I'd much rather do this for a character who doesn't have art, or doesn't have much art.

I'll look at all posts in the next while and make a decision either today or tomorrow.

You can try Derek or Zapros if you want. Zapros is in my scraps, Derek is in Derek New and Improved, in my DA.

I really like your style, its very unique and original. I'd love to see what you'd do with my toon, Lady Liberty.
Original Costume
Second costume <-- My current favorite, so here's an extra shot
Third costume

She's obviously very patriotic, with the "Truth, justice, and the American way" kind of deal going on. Her backstory was that she was endowed with her powers (MA/regen) by an ageless "Spirit of Liberty" that chooses one champion that embodies the right kind of ideals, and they serve those ideals with those powers until they're killed, disgrace those ideals, or renounce their powers to live a normal life. The spirit chose her shortly before the American Civil War and but she didn't take the name Lady Liberty or wear the costume until the later stages of WW2, where she followed Statesman's example. However, I've been considering changing that whole backstory b/c someone told me it was done very similiarly in some superhero campaign setting i have never heard of before, and don't remember the name of :/. This is the toon I really hope will be my first 50, currently 43.

I don't have any art yet for any of my toons, tho having recently discovered this awesome part of the boards, I've been inspired to start drawing, I still suck , but I'm working on it. Even my bad pics are fun to draw.

Hehe that about eliminates me from this but you can't blame a Troll for trying. I have to since I love your style.

Background:
Marlene ‘Mara’ Dieter was born in Berlin on April 30, 1935. The only daughter of Major Johannes Dieter and teacher Francis Stober. Francis Stober took the young Mara from Berlin to Bautzen in 1939 to live with her parents as Major Dieter’s unit was ordered into action in Poland. Johannes Dieter was later killed in action on the Eastern Front during the Battle of the Korsun-Cherkassy Pocket in 1944.

Life resumed a semblance of normality and stability after the War. The German Democratic Republic was joyfully declared in 1949, and in 1955 the government of East Germany joined the Warsaw Pact with the Soviet Union and other Eastern European countries.

Mara excelled academically and graduated from secondary school in 1953. In 1956 Mara was honoured with selection to attend the prestigious Institute for the History of Material Culture of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, in Moscow.

Mara was sent to Hungary in 1965 as a ‘scientific advisor’ as part of a special KGB OSNAZ operation to investigate a mysterious sarcophagus that had been sealed in the catacombs beneath Castle Buda by NKVD troops in 1945 after an incident involving the unusual deaths of over two dozen dead SS soldiers, officers, and scientists of the Ahnenerbe - The Ancestral Heritage Research and Teaching Society.

Each man showed signs of having suffered from frostbite, hypothermia and extreme electric shock. Most disturbing of all was the twisted look of horror frozen on each man’s face, and splayed in blood on large letters behind the sarcophagus was the word - Albtraum - the German word for Nightmare.

The special team entered the catacombs in July 1965, and broke through the sealed chamber into the sarcophagus room. Mara examined the ancient sarcophagus, bewildered by engraved symbols and pictograms that seemed to have been drawn from at least four languages of antiquity. When Mara traced her fingers around the outline of a darkened circle of glass at the head of the sarcophagus, she vanished.

In March 2005, security guards discovered a previously unknown section of the catacombs beneath Buda Castle, a sealed section that had apparently been broken into and the unknown contents stolen. What puzzled the security guards and Police was the shattered concrete blocks appeared to have been gouged by claws, and there were signs of giant dog-like paw prints in the dirt next to large tracks marks indicating something heavy had been dragged.

In July 2005, the container ship Carolinian ran aground near Independence Port. The Coast Guard and several heroes investigated the Carolinian, to find a bloody scene. The bodies of not only the crew of the Carolinian, but Council Soldiers and Warwolves and Circle of Thorns Mystics and Behemoths. A battle had taken place between the Council and Circle of Thorns, but over what?

In the depths of the Carolinian the remains of a shattered sarcophagus was found, inside was nothing more than ash, dust and a broken pair of spectacles.

Watching impassively from the shore was a pale-skinned, raven haired woman with darkened eyes and a row of spikes protruding from tattooed forearms.

Comments:

When Marlene Dieter examined the sarcophagus hidden beneath the catacombs of Buda Castle she accidentally awakened an Intelligence that had been sleeping undisturbed for many millennia. Something ancient, alien and inscrutable that it had forgotten its own name, its reason for existing, and why it had been entombed in the sarcophagus in the first place.

The earlier intruders had annoyed the Intelligence, with their chanting and irritating orders. So the Intelligence had swept them aside like an annoying mote of dust and returned to its slumber.

Then along came the woman who ran her fingers along the sarcophagus and spoke the ancient words showed respect, reverence and awe. And the Intelligence remembered all to well what that felt like.

If the mortals were so eager to awaken it, then the Intelligence would oblige. For curiosity’s sake if nothing else.

Mara vanished and in what appeared to be brief moments for the Intelligence, shattered the confines of the sarcophagus and leapt over the side of the Carolinian as the Circle of Thorns and Council fought.

The Intelligence has permanently merged itself with Mara Dieter, altering the human body to accommodate its essence. But Mara is not dead. She maintains her own memories, knowledge and experiences - even if a lot of it is forty years out of date.

But Mara also has the memories, knowledge, experiences and personality traits of an Intelligence that had walked the Earth when Man was little more than a naked ape.

What they both seem to agree on is the name Albtraum - a nightmare to those who would prey upon humankind. Both feel a desire to walk amongst the humankind and protect them from the taint of criminals and supervillains, and to help shape a fairer, more just society for these people.

Well, my Frosty Femme gallery is linked below. She's a Mutant Ice/Ice Blaster with a (lost) twin named Fiery Femme who is currently a Fire/Fire Corrupter (thought that may change. Again. hehe). The two were separated during the Rikti War and Frosty has been looking for her sister ever since. She is currently working over Arachnos in Faultline because of rumors that Fiery may be somewhere in the Rogue Isles.

As for the artwhoring...well, I have some. Not a ton. And they're all free sketches or gifts because I can't afford a commission yet.

your = Belonging to you.
you're = Contraction meaning "You are."
Ur = The name of an ancient Mesopotamian city.
ur = This is not a word.

Kadmon and Masked Shrike (both pictured in the signature) have very little art of them.

*reposted with some editing from Kai's thread*

Kadmon is an ancient Muvian construct (physically, he's almost human, save for having bones made of orichalcum, skin and muscle like iron, and glowing eyes) with incredible regenerative powers and exceptional skill with a broadsword (backed up by his super-human golem strength). His being in Paragon City is the result of some incompetent magic use by Circle of Thorns wizards back in 2004, when they tried to summon a demon he had "banished" (read: Punched in the face until it decided it was better off back where it had come from) in 1136 AD, but got him instead. He was unhappy about that for a long time, but eventually got over it and has come to like his new surroundings.

Power Sets: Broadsword, Regeneration, Fitness, Fly, Concealment, Presence (particularly, Invoke Panic)

Masked Shrike was a world-famous singer who happens to be a descendant of Mu (like close to 2 billion other humans in the world today, if memory serves ). She attracted the attention of the Circle of Thorns when she was on tour in Paragon City. A certain swordsman with an ax to grind with the Circle (see above) came and stopped them. She returned for another tour about a year afterwards, where the Praetorian Earth version of Kadmon attempted to kidnap her. After one failed attempt, then one successful attempt, she became empowered by Kadmon and, since returning to Paragon City, has taken up the fight against injustice. She is just a step or two above being legally blind, and wears glasses or corrective goggles almost constantly (which brings up questions about how she can be so accurate with her sniper attack at such an incredible range )

Power Sets: Sonic Resonance, Dark Blast (Particularly, Moonbeam), Fly (Group Fly), Fitness, Medicine

Ma'aseruat has never had art. Not one piece.

Piccies

Ma'aseruat, Dark/Dark Defender

As in her ID:

From a distant planet, Ma'a-seru-at's small ship crashed on Earth during the Rikti invasion. At first mistaken for one of the invading forces, she soon proved herself a hero when she saved several children from a collapsed school buidling. A shaman-priestess and ambassador on her own planet, Ma'a-seru-at is used to being a part of the elite. her bizarre appearance on Earth, however, has ranked her in a place where she feels very alone. While she hopes for rescue, she has still worked to learn the language and culture of her new, if temporary, home.

Additional Information:

Ma'aseruat held a lot of influence and political power on her home planet of Sava'ali. While diplomatic and always working to bring compromise between opposing parties, she still made enemies. One of these was a jealous rival who wanted not just Ma'aseruat's place with the reigning monarch, but her shamanistic powers as well. Unfortunately for this poor soul, she did not have the talent required to wield the magics and forces involved. Jealousy and envy led to rage and hatred, and sabotage.

A routine expedition to an outlaying colony turned disastrous when the navigation system ceased to work. Lost in the vast reaches of space, Ma'aseruat and her crew survived on limited rations at first, but when those ran out, they relied on Ma'aseruat's magics to keep them going. For all her power, weakened by hunger, Ma'aseruat could not keep the ship going on empty. Drifting, they found themselves grabbed by a strange, watery planet's gravitational force. Without fuel, the surviving crew tried to control the small ship through the atmosphere. The resulting crash killed everyone, except Ma'aseruat.

On Sava'ali, Ma'aseruat is survived by her husband and three children. She is believed dead by most, but her family still holds hope that she lives.

I've made my decision.

Or rather, I failed to make it - I just couldn't decide between two of the posters, so I'll do both. Might take a bit longer than planned, though.

I'll put together a picture of Ma'aseruat, because that's *exactly* the type of thing I love to paint.

I'll also make a painting of Lady Liberty - because she's something I wouldn't paint without prompting. Red, white, blue and spandex. I want to see if I can find a 'twist' on it that I find interesting while staying faithful to the original.

(I actually couldn't decide between LL and Sovereign-1, who has much the same concept, but then I noticed S-1's avatar - prior art was the tie-breaker.)

Thanks for all the interest!
