The sudden touch on her shoulder caused Cort to drop her drink and whirl on Ian, her now free hand clawed through the air, the instinctively called for fire not appearing due to the glowie, but even that was unable to stop the pulse of fire within her eyes.

In a moment, Cort calmed down and lowered her hand. "I... apologize. I'm not used to... not hearing the voices. It's left me... on edge." She sighed, "It's not a matter of holes in my memories," She answered him after quickly pulling what he had said from her mind, "Just a single block right after.... they injected me with that damn drug." Her face tightened with rage briefly, "After that day, my memories are clear enough, if clutter by others'. I just don't know anything from before I was 10."

Cort looked at Experiment with a slight frown, allowing Sis to introduce her. Something about the man was digging at her stolen memories, but it danced just beyond her grasp.

A humble black Dodge Viper (2006 model), with tinted bulletproof glass, pulled into the parking lot of the Warhawk Clinic. The driver side door opened, two legs came out, then a torso, then part of two arms, then finally the heroes face, covered by the shadows of the near by tree. The unknown hero was wearing a pair of blue jeans, his signature white tank top (with a blue ace in the middle, surrounded by a golden diamond), and a Hawaiian-shirt-turned-jacket. The figure walked up to the gates of the Warhawk Clinic.

The figure stood at the gate for a few minutes before being granted entry, he was practically a regular by now. He strolled though the pathway into the Clinic, he was greeted with his usually "Hello, Ace!" or anything remotely like that. Ace kept to himself with alot of things, he was much older than he looked, he had fought in both Rikiti Worlds, and had done many deeds that should have granted him ATLEAST an honorary membership in the Freedom Phalanx.

Truth be told, Ace fought along side some of the most prestigious heroes ever to exist, even Hero One on the Rikiti homeworld. That is something he didn't really like to think about much. He always felt responsible for his disappearance, and presumed MIA. No one would believe his story, not even Statesman or the Freedom Phalanx. They just couldn't believe what he had told them, that was all. He felt like that was why he wasn't accepted into the Freedom Phalanx. Still, he was a war hero, that was something not everyone was.

He had more stories to tell about his life to anyone who would listen today. He always had stories to tell. He walked through the lobby and approached the group of people gathered, "Hello younglings."

Ace probably looked a bit odd saying this to them, they all probably thought the same things, but all he did in response to the "who is the new guy" was open his over shirt to reveal his insignia. Anyone who was a follower of the hero movement would probably recognize him for who he really is.

((I know short post, more when I'm feeling it more.))

Sis snickered quietly, and held out a bottle of water to Experiment. “Here…I’m Sis, this is Ella and Cortianna. Er…one sec.” She quickly cracked the seal on the bottle so Experiment would be able to open it with one hand. “Sorry ‘bout that,” she said, handing it over. “So how exactly did the toaster do you in?” she asked grinning, eyes glancing towards his cast. “I’m sure the story is epic.” She flicked her ponytail over her shoulder and crossed her arms over her chest. Mentally, she kicked herself for laying on the sarcasm. It was no way to make friends. Then again, she wasn’t going to be here that long. Still, she was representing her Super Group, in a manner of speaking. She’d have to be careful to not insult anyone too badly.

[/ QUOTE ]

Experiment simply grinned, gripping the bottle. He glanced at his cast, and back up at the female, his eyes twinkling.

"I don't think telling you all the details would do very good for my image, but I will tell you this; The toaster-slash-glob-of-ever-heated-metal got what was coming to... Um... It. Also, don't hang television sets by anything flammable with said ever-heated items while wearing easily heatable armour. It just... Isn't a good idea."

However, he remembered the scenara pretty clearly...

[ QUOTE ]
A few sizzles from the blowtorch later, it was done.

"Finally! Breakfast is served!" Experiment yelled, only to glance around and see nobody. He shrugged, and looked down.

He had intended to build a toaster, only to find a glowing chunk of metal in its place. "Hm... This is odd..." Glancing around again, he spotted the tie of fabric he had set earlier.

Recently, he had given Liquid Burst an advancement to his armour, allowing to take a HELL of a lot more damage than usual. He wanted to test it, with a lovely television-drop. It seemed like a good idea.

However, he picked up the heated chunk in his left, armoured hand, and the metal of the armour heated VERY quickly. He cried out, throwing the chunk, and releasing the armour over his left arm. He began running toward the sink, before hearing an obvious sizzle. He stopped and turned, just in time to see the platform the fabric was tied to, and the actual fabric, seperate.

Idiotically, he glanced up, and dodged his head away from the falling plasma screen. A severe CRUNCH caused him to raise an eyebrow.

He glanced around, and shrugged again. Only this time, the shrug sent his arm into spasms of pain.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes. He remembered it VERY well.

Although, now that he thought about it, testing Liquid Burst's armour with a television set on the head was probably not safe anway...

Ian could tell Cortia’s movements the instant her grip loosened on her cup. He took a defensive step away. His mind raced over the situation, taking note of the glowie and her outstretched hand. He was safe.

His mauve eyes pierced hers, searching the flame in her gaze for understanding. But the voice of the flame was silent to him, or he just couldn’t hear it because it wasn't loud enough...or he was out of practice. Although his eyes and expression were blank yet penetrating, deep down a tinge of terror gripped him. Ian’s left hand inadvertently moved to his right arm, which was wrapped from knuckle almost to his elbow. To him, the moment lasted minutes although it was only a few seconds but Cortia finally lowered her hand.

She sighed, "It's not a matter of holes in my memories," She answered him after quickly pulling what he had said from her mind, "Just a single block right after.... they injected me with that damn drug." Her face tightened with rage briefly, "After that day, my memories are clear enough, if clutter by others'. I just don't know anything from before I was 10."

[/ QUOTE ]

Voices? Can she hear the spirit of fire too or is it something else…something sinister? Ian reclaimed his backward step and just smiled warmly but his purple eyes remained unblinking. “Don’t worry, we’re all friends here. I’m sure your memory will come back to you in time and if you’re feeling up to it, you can tell us all about yourself.”

Ian turned his head to the far side of the room, spying Jasmine and Alissa. He turned back to Cortianna and grinned. He looked down toward the little blue girl and tapped her on the shoulder just to quickly recoil from the frigid touch. Ian hated cold. It might even be considered his weakness but it’s not like a bullet couldn’t do just as much damage. He just laughed it off, “Jamie, was it?” he asked then leaned closer toward her and Cortia.

“How about we go and talk to those girls over there?” His voice was hushed, so the other’s conversation wouldn’t be disturbed. “They seem kind of lonely…and it’s not like I’m nervous to talk with them or anything. I just figure it would be less awkward if I wasn’t alone.”

((Darkie, is Ace in the lobby talking to a group gather in there or did you mean he was in the room with the other guys?))

Ella’s mind whirled into action delving into a myriad of different drug experiments that affected memory. Mostly the illegal kind many of which were performed on unwilling human test subjects.

“Do you know what they injected you with?”

“And what do you know of lost memories?” Her voice was flat and level with a hint of accusation in it.

Ian was still leaning down to talk with Jamie as well as Cortianna who was beside him. He didn’t turn and answer Ella right away, giving the impression he was ignoring her. Finally, he straightened up and turned his head in her direction, smirking at her seriousness. Is she mad at me now?

Ian turned back to the other two he was speaking with, his arms crossed over his chest. “I have no past experience with memory loss, personally…” He chuckled to himself as his memories retraced back to recently when he helped a man and his wife that worked for Crey who had some of their memories erased. “…but the truth has an interesting way of being rediscovered when you try to cover it up. That’s justice after all.”

The golden glow surrounding Ella was too faint to be visible in the room’s lights. Her golden glow was usually an omen for bad things about to happen. Ella’s eyes narrowed coldly on Ian’s back, her fist tight.

Then suddenly her face relaxed and her fist untightened.

“Well as long as you admit that you don’t know what you’re talking about I guess its okay to naively believe that the world in fundamentally just” Ella flipped her hair so it would hit Ian as she turned and walked away.

Her walk was very graceful and completely lacked her playful exuberance from before. She delicately lifted a carrot stick from the table and headed across the room. Her eyes scanned everything they could as she walked, until finally settling on Jasmine.

Ella lowered herself gracefully into the chair nearest the girl and smiled.

“Hello my name is Ella, and who might you be?” Ella sat with perfect posture and crossed her legs in the chair.

[Several floors away]

Captain Roberts whispered into his headset “Stand down” His eyes leaving the set of monitors for the first time in the last few minutes looked over to Doctor Tyler. “That seemed close”

Doctor Tyler was still scribbling notes furiously “Oh, we are not out of the woods yet Captain. Notice the shift in mannerisms?” Roberts nodded. “This personality is much more dangerous than Ella’s she is just infinitely more subtle and calculating, but I don’t think your men will need to intervene. Let’s watch longer and see how she maintains”

Roberts nodded again “I think she spotted camera two and five”. It was difficult for him to tell, Ella’s face revealed almost nothing. She was truely an enigma, and an interesting security challenge.

Jasmine looked at Ella as she sat down in a chair near where her wheelchair was parked. When she failed to respond after a minute her father began to speak.

"My daughter is a bit shy." He said to Ella. "I am Doctor Jonah Albrect and this is Jasmine."

"You don't need to speak for me, dad." Jasmine said in an annoyed tone. She looked back at Ella. "I'm Jasmine, and you are?"

In the quiet time before Dr, Albrect responded on Jasmine’s behalf Ella was slowly beginning to slouch more and fidget in the chair.

"My daughter is a bit shy." He said to Ella. "I am Doctor Jonah Albrect and this is Jasmine."

Ella smiled politely at the Dr. Albrect and extended her non-carrot-stick holding hand to shake his gently. “Please to meet you Doctor”

"I'm Jasmine, and you are?"

“I’m Ella” She was beginning to perk up and show a little more enthusiasm.

“So why are you here Jasmine?” Ella was interested in why Jasmine was in a wheel chair.

Ella decided to share something about herself in hopes of making Jasmine more comfortable. “I have memory holes” She made the same dizzy gesture she did earlier with Ian, but this time with the presentation aid of the carrot-stick.

After the gesture Ella looked at the carrot-stick in her hand then placed it on the marker tray of the whiteboard nearby then looked back to Jasmine expectedly.

Sis couldn’t help but snicker. “No offense, but I’m feeling sympathetic towards the toaster. Although I have to admit I never considered assault by a deadly toaster with a television for an accomplice to be high on the list of things I would have to watch out for.” Her eyes dropped to his cast. “That looks…overly complicated. Why not a regular plaster one?”

Sis’s attention was momentarily distracted by Cortianna’s reaction to Ian. She’d missed most of the conversation, but felt the tension rise almost immediately. Instinctively, she started to set herself for a fight, building her connection with the earth and clenching her free hand into a fist. But it was over before it began, sparing Sis from having to explain just how exactly she had managed to summon lava from a non-volcanic area and why it wasn’t burning her skin.

“Or not. No pressure, really.” Sis felt silly as soon as words came out of her mouth, but she couldn’t take them back now. Besides, she actually meant it, though, more in the sense of not wanting to know too much about her fellow Clinic inhabitants. She wasn’t looking to make fast friendships here.

Sis nodded in response, turning back towards Experiment. “Back to your…lab…is it still standing after your experience?” As she spoke, she slowly let her connection to the earth fade, straightening as the adrenaline dissipated from her system. She unclenched her fist and ran it through her bangs. Sis could feel the tension in her shoulders and back and sighed to herself. Maybe her team was right. She could use a break. But if episodes like that were going to happen a lot, maybe the Clinic, gym or not, wasn’t the right place.

Experiment grinned down at his cast. "Well, I wanted to make sure it didn't break should I start fighting crime while injured. Of course, after clasping it, Jenny told me she had checked me a room in the clinic, so I sighed and tried to take it off... About three seconds before I realized that I forgot to install a Delatch button."

Jasmine listened to Ella's introduction. "Memory holes?" She asked with an interested look on her face. Since the girl had come forward with her problem, and this was a hospital after all...

Dammit, no sense in keeping it secret. She thought to herself before speaking again. "I can't walk."

"I can't walk."

“Well that explains the wheelchair. Were you born unable to walk or did something happen?” Ella looked thoughtful for a moment then scooted her chair closer.

Ella looked around in a conspiratory fashion then continued much quieter “I know a lot about medicine maybe I can help.”

She could probably break it if needed, but that would sort of defeat the purpose of the cast.

“Nah…it’s the makeup,” Sis said quickly, indicating the red circles around her eyes. “Makes me look all scary and old or something. Frankly, I think Serge was pulling my leg, but it does help when it’s really sunny out. Like those things football players wear.” She rolled her shoulders. “I’d prefer sunglasses, but I went through something like fifteen pairs my first week here. I’ve given up. Unless I weld them to my face, there’s no point in trying to keep ‘em.” Sis took a drink from her bottle of water, running the cap through her fingers. “’Sides how can I be stressed? I’m here, right?” she said, gesturing to the room in general. “Meeting new people, seeing new things, relaxing. Peaches and cream.” She tried hard to keep the sarcasm out of her voice, but realized she was probably failing miserably.

Glancing towards the door, Sis noticed a man standing there with an unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt and some emblem on his undershirt. Raising an eyebrow, she glanced back to Experiment. “I thought only girls got in trouble for flashing,” she commented, jerking her head towards the door. “He’s leaving nothing to the imagination,” Sis added with a sly grin. She didn’t recognize the man or his insignia. As long as he wasn’t the massage therapist she’d been threatened with, she figured she could get by without ever knowing who he was. Returning her gaze to Experiment 2.0, she asked, “So who’s Jenny?”

"Not unless you can regrow nerves and muscles damaged by toxins that some company dumped in the water supply, which they won't even admit that they ever made." Jasmine whispered back, not looking too impressed.

Apparently her father had heard it quite easily. "If you would just even consider..." he began to say.

"No! No cybernetics." She interrupted him. "The suit is one thing, but I don't want my insides all battery powered."

Growing cells was something Ella knew all too much about. Most of the research that made any significant progress was not done legally. She knew all about those experiments too. A flood of information hit Ella square between the eyes. DNA chains, incubators, surgical grafts, protein sequences, suspension solutions, life-support apparatus and much much more in vast clinical detail.

Ella closed her eyes and furrowed her brow as the information came streaming into her head carrying with it a splitting migraine. “owwwWWW”

Ella’s body began to glow with golden light bright enough to be seen in the room's fluorescents . Her small frame tensed momentarily. She placed a hand to her forehead in an attempt to steady herself. Her other hand snapped the arm off of the chair with a loud CRACK as the steel anchors broke free.

The headache actually helped slow down the information flooding into her brain. After a few tense moments, she had control again and the glow faded. She dropped the arm of the chair where it fell with a CLANG, placed her head in her hands, and brought her knees up.

Quietly and weakly Ella finally spoke without looking up “I can do that, but I don’t think they have that kind of equipment here. A lot of the stuff needed isn’t legal”

A single milky white tear floated away from Ella's eye as she held her head down. She trembled and shivered slightly in the chair as the pain in her head subsided far too slowly.

Captain Roberts brushed past the person in the door clearing a path for Doctor Tyler who was flicking at a syringe. Doctor Tyler gently took Ella’s arm and gave her a small injection.

“You’ll feel better soon dear” Doctor Tyler’s voice was smooth and calming. She placed a Sesame Street character Band-Aid on the small spot on Ella’s arm where she had just injected her.

Alissa took a step back and Captain Roberts scooped Ella up out of the chair and carried her off. Ella was sleepily repeating “I can help her. I can help…. I can”

The milky white tear hung in space above the chair Ella had just recently broken and occupied. It defiantly ignored gravity as it floated on the small air currents in the room.

=================================================

Lady Halifax and Miss Kia have worked together for several years. This is miraculous in itself due to Kia’s sometimes poor if not aggressive attitude. Both women have strong personalities where Hali’s is tempered with reason. Kia’s is more stubborn and passionate.

Both women needed a break. Hali was a work-a-holic and ran herself ragged between her magical research and her hero work. Kia was simply a high-stress personality, she thrived on it but eventually it takes its toll on her.

Considering Kia’s uncooperative attitude, Hali felt she had no choice but to lie to her friend. This was not as easy of a task as it may seem, because Kia also happened to be telepathic. At Portal Corp there was considerable arguing before Kia reluctantly stepped through the portal to ‘whatever this Clinic’ place was.

At the Clinic Arrival Station the arguing continued…

Kia yelled despite the stares of the arrival technicians. “I CAN”T BELIEVE THAT YOU TRIED TO LIE!!! TO ME!!!!” She shook her finger in Hali’s face.

Hali gently pushed the offending finger away from her face. “If I told vous le truth vous would ‘ave n’ver even gotten out of bed” Hali’s voice remained steady, calm, and exceedingly patient. **

Kia’s mouth opened to loudly retort, but Hali stopped her again.

“I know vous and that iz the truth. Vous stay’d up very late wasting your time beating up le Skullz and le Helleons in Perez Park, and vous would ‘ave n’ver budged from bed”

“Beating up those thugs is NOT a waste of time!” Kia crossed her arms defiantly.

“True. It iz not, but it iz a waste of your talents. And using your repel field to see how far you can throw them iz not productive work for a hero of your skillz”

Kia snorted unintentionally, and then smiled. “Yeah…well you should have seen the one I sailed clear over the wall from 50 feet”

Hali arched one eyebrow at Kia’s claim. “Come nous are here now. Nous will look around” Hali took Kia’s arm and started to pull her along. Kia of course being Kia resisted the first tug and then followed.

The pair toured the grounds, with Hali pointing out some of the scenic features and Kia finding something negative to say about it. Eventually the pair ended up at the Spa.

As Hali had suspected Kia loosen up overtime, and she caught her enjoying some of the scenery on occasion. Another argument did break out at the Spa when Kia found out that Hali had booked them for a week.

“Those track suits look very comfortable. Oui?”

“Oh no, I am soooo not wearing one of those. AND don’t change the subject. A FREAKIN week at this place”

“Kia, if vous admit it or not. Vous need this” Hali placed her hand on Kia’s shoulder. “I need this too, and I would very much like, if vous stayed with me”.

Kia’s shoulders slumped giving in to Hali’s plea. “Okay, but don’t even try to get me to wear one of those retarded track suits”

A few minutes later the ladies were in their condo where the latest argument started, when Kia found her suitcase already here. In disbelief she opened and looked at her clothes inside. She found her burgundy tee-shirt with the sequin stars a minute later she was in Hali’s face.

“I was looking for this yesterday! You let me yell at Frostie for ten minutes when it was you who took my shirt”

“Oui but do not worry. I already apologized to Frostie for vous. She was very understanding” Hali smiled.

“Arrrggghh!!!” Kia stormed back to her room and slammed the door.

Later they continued the tour, arrived at ‘Meet and greet’.

Kia saw the Captain Robert hauling away the small white girl. “Dude you better hurry she looks pale” She said with a snort and slapping Hali in the arm trying to see if she too found it funny.

Hali watched unamused and slapped Kia back in the arm “Vous should show more compassion”

“Oh come on we are in a hospital I’m sure they got it taken care of.”

Hali simply glared back unapprovingly.

Forcing Kia to take a step back to drag Hali by the arm for a change “I am so starved this better be the room with the food?”

**Hali is French-Canadian and I am not very good at writing accents but I am trying. Also I do not speak French so if I do any full translations it will be based on babblefish

A reptilian being sat nervously on a stool, while Doctor Jamie Smith studied his back. Since he wasn’t human the doctor could only guess. After all Kruth’T was sitting perfectly still, with the exception of his tail, witch writhed like a worm on a hook. “When did you first notice this discoloration?” Doctor Smith asked while studying a patch of yellowish scales, they appeared to be fragile, and slightly puffy. A stark contrast to his orange-brown scales, that was normally more pebbly in appearance.
“Actually, I didn’t notice the problem until two days ago.” Kruth’T responded in a mellow sounding voice, that emanated from somewhere around his throat. “I was at a friend’s residence, repairing my uniform. He asked me about the oddity on my back. Soon after I used a portable healing scanner to identify the problem. It informed me that it was an infestation, native to this world/universe.” Of course this would have to happen on a remote reality-world. “The device recommended that I seek a native Healer for assistance.” And thank the Mighty Hatcher, that those things are required on all escape capsules.
“Okay, then I’m going to need to take blood and tissue samples.” The Doctor worked quickly. “I’m also going to ask that you remain here, for observation. I’m worried about how close the infection is to your spine sheaths.”
Kruth’T nodded his agreement.

A half hour latter Kruth’T had been shown his room (although Kruth’T recognized it as the room they used to quarantine him after he had arrived), and the escorted to a room containing a table with food items, some seating objects, and a collection of humans. Don’t smile at the mammals, you never know how they’ll react. Looking at the banner Kruth’T wondered what it said, but guessed it was some kind of greeting. Either that, or it was an offer of free food.
Remembering the small human who had ben dragged out of the room, he decided not to chance anything but an orange, or maybe a banana.....

(OOC) Kruth’T is not human, and only ‘woke up’ a half a year ago. He resembles a bipedal reptile, with orange-brown scales. He stands about 5'10", and has a lean lizardly look. He is also wearing a white robe, mostly to blend in.
Doctor Jamie Smith is free for any one to use, and specializes in Xeno-biology, and Pathology. The doctor has a slender build, stands about 5' 6" (Kruth’T still has a hard time telling the difference between men, and women), and has short brown hair.

“Do you know what they injected you with?” Ella asked.

Corti looked over at the pure white girl and blinked several times.

"Yes, it was clear in their thoughts. The drug was Crey's attempt at recreating the Supes drug with, naturally, their own 'enhancements'." She snorted slightly, "Not that they'll ever be any proof of it of course."

She looked down at the wet stain on the carpet before dismissing it and getting another cup of water. When she looked back up, Ella was across the room talking to a girl in a wheelchair and shortly there after, fell over.

Or a fire extinguisher at least?” She looked at the cast again. “I guess you could just break it open…but you probably made it all secure or something.” She narrowed her eyes a little, trying to see if there were any seams or obvious weaknesses, but she couldn’t tell from this angle. She could probably break it if needed, but that would sort of defeat the purpose of the cast.

Experiment chuckled, eyeing his cast again. "Not in my mind. Usually, I am not very good in the foresight department, and in the building of this, it was no different. I didn't think that I may need a release until seconds after it had already clasped."

Seeing as how Experiment himself used sarcasm on a pretty much minutely basis, even if it had been extremely well hidden, like, Fort Knox hidden, he probably would have sensed it anyway.

However, he nodded, not in a way that said 'Okay, I get it, you're not stressed. So, how's the weather?' but in a 'Okay, I get it, you don't wanna talk about it.' way.

Experiment's gaze lay on the guy for a second, his head tilting in confusion. He turned to Sis, his eyes narrow. "I find it offensive that these guys don't get punished, and perfectly good, healthy women do. I mean, for women, okay, fine, they aren't exactly insulting anybody... Guys though... I just... I just think we should be allowed to perform some justice on them sometimes..."

[ QUOTE ]
Returning her gaze to Experiment 2.0, she asked, “So who’s Jenny?”

[/ QUOTE ]

Experiment rolled his eyes, however good-naturadely, and chuckled yet again, for like, the eighteenth time in that ten minutes. "She's my... Well, Ian pretty much ruined any chance of keeping my identity secret... She's my sister, Jenny Ballard. She's the one that forced me into this cast, and the one that forced me into this place, and ALSO forced me, a week or so ago, to actually do my editing job instead of the clone..."

His gaze went side-to-side, and he spoke again, slightly secretively. "I made a clone, which malfunctions often. Last time I let him out, he managed to open a portal, allowing a ton of CoT into the Paragon City Times... We blamed it on the Orenbagens, but I swear, I don't think anyone gives me NORMAL looks anymore in my building..."
