How to Draw heroes book for the very NOOB?
Deviant Art has a lot of tutorials, most of them crappy -- but there are a few that are really golden.

Wizard how to draw is quite nice, and made with tutorial of great comic artists, maybe not for complete "noobs" but I like it.
some pages from wizard here.
And as he said:
How to draw comics the Marvel way which is a lot simpler and teaches how to draw comics like in the 70's
How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way is great, another book I really like is:
The Art of Drawing by Willy Pogany

I picked up that book.... pretty nice.. (even though I can still only draw sticked figures.)
What about this?
Superheroes Explosion
I should look your suggestions up. I used to subscribe to Wizard, and remember their lesson section, but they always seemed sooo advanced?
Thanks all!
This is the one I bought last week. Very simple, yet seems to be missing the basics: Drawing Superheroes

"Drawing the head and figure" by Jack Hamm is pretty good, too
I would highly recommend learning to draw from classsic images and paintings, because learning from superheroes has truly ruined a lot of otherwise talented artists. (rob lifeld comes to mind) having basic knowledge of how to draw should come before learning to do the caricture that is superheroes. Learn proportion first - then learn how to mix it up with longer legs, smaller heads and biceps the size of mellons
My friend Billy Martinez (who did the Wildflower, Kickass Girl comics) also teaches art - I don't know if he has a site up with tutorials but I've seen him take a poor to mediocre artist and make them into a passable cartoonist.
Still takes a bit of talent to build skill upon. But I definitely recommend shopping around for the How to Draw Manga books 1 and 2. The first two books cover the basics of what paper, ink, pens and pencils to use, how to hold them, and the starts of perspective and proportion. There are about 50 others in that series, but the first two cover the very basics, and I highly recommend them.
Please read my FEAR/Portal/HalfLife Fan Fiction!

Thanks Zekiran
So much to choose from, and so little time to practice

I know that on a previous post (or maybe another forum but I think it was here) someone had mentionned that a nice complement to drawing the marvel way was
Action Anatomy: For Gamers, Animators, and Digital Artists
by Takashi Iijima
so I got both ... and I can tell you that for someone that loves (I mean I luv!) highlights and shading this is such a great book. Add to that really cool explanations on how the body moves and you can take that Drawing the Marvel way to the next level ... really cool.

I have a book "How to Draw More Superheroes" and it is a really great book, having practice heroes and breaking it down step by step. It may not have specific sections on each part of the body, but is a nice way to start, and has some cool poses too

Hi all!
Just an update. I just received this: How to Draw the Marvel Way in a hardcover version from ebay for $6!
Now I am off to read.

I got that book sitting right here next to me.....
On page 42, it talks about making the character 8 and 3/4 heads tall. I found a newer book that was done by one of the other X-Men artists and they used 8 head tall figures. If you find 8 and 3/4 to odd to work with, shrink the dimensions down to 8 heads tall. if interested, you can e-mail me and I'll try finding the other book.

I suppose I should have read the entire thread and/or looked at the dates of posts before I posted, but I still think that book is an excellent choice for a beginner.
Got one right here on the shelf. Great book to learn the basics.

A couple of other good books to try:
Vogue
Vanity Fair
Good anatomy books: Dynamic Figure Drawing or Dynamic Anatomy by Burne Hogarth
Why Vogue and Vanity Fair? Large magazines for very little cost, lots of ads with models. I often do composite practicing using these ads to learn the move and flow of clothing, proportions, and how the body moves.
Sports Illustrated is also an excellent magazine for dynamic figure movements.
Just a couple of them will give you tons of reference work and practice pieces.

"If I had any dignity, that would have been humiliating" --- Adam Savage

I just dropped $80 on the 4 Wizard "How To Draw" books. They're very well done. Here's one of the 4, linked below;

Ive had that book since I was 8 yrs old, its been ripped to shreds but I still have it. I failed at drawing so I jus traced over the pictures n stuff.
I found the other book I was talking about.
Draw the Marvel Comics Super Heroes by John Romita
I like the book strictly because it is done by John Romita.
February 23rd I documented a child-like drawing and started reading(the 1981 version) "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain". I can scan and show you the horrible picture if you really want. March 3rd-4th I drew this. I know it's not the greatest drawing but considering what I drew ten days before that I am very hopeful. I followed the first few excersizes diligently but I haven't gotten to the third one yet.
It doesn't teach you how to draw (so far). It teaches you how to see as an artist sees. Not people or things but lines and shapes. I love it. A great book if you haven't drawn since you were a kid.
I got that Marvel book as well. It is an awesome book!
Just wondering if people had suggestions of books to get on drawing for "the extremely new"? I haven't drawn since highschool.
I picked up a book that was very basic and written for young people.
Any help?
