That's without photo ref? Wow. It really is pretty. I like the fade and blur on the bottom (literally) and how the line's sharper on the top. Very nice.

she doesnt even have a face (i dont remember what the original one looked like)
and any like... hard lines at the top, and soft blend at the bottom, is purely the fault of the "blend" feature in Photoshop... cause the color isnt actually full enough, so the blur kept washing away the image... so I eventually got fed up and started coloring in the parts that the fade got rid of :-P

That's really nice. I had to look at it a few seconds to see it, but it looks awesome. 
if I make it any brighter, you can see all the screw ups :-P

Don't be down on yourself. It's beautiful. Just because it doesn't have a face doesn't mean it's not good. There's a LOT of abtract art or emotive pieces that allow suggestion to portray the intent.

I dont know, I guess Im down on it, cause even if i went on memory, its still basically copying something else.. it isnt original.... so it should be exact :-/

We all start somewhere. Many of my best pieces are nothing but copies. Take a look at my Gambit. He is a pure copy of a trading card. I didn't even try to do it from memory. I referenced the card, a lot. It is, IMO, my best piece ever.
Copying allows us to teach our hands, eyes, and brain to follow specific contours and shapes, so the next time we do something, it's easier. Take writing, for example. I learned how to write script in a specific way. During that time, I hurt my right hand and had to teach my left. Once my right hand healed, I went back to using it. Over time, the handwriting on my right hand changed and evolved. My left hand still writes like it used to because I never trained it any differently.
A weird example, I know, but copying and practicing is what makes us better artists. Using a pen, pencil, brush, mouse, or tablet is no different.
So it doesn't exactly match the original. That's okay. You made it your own. That, in itself, is the most important part. If you take an idea and make it your own, it's no longer a copy, but something that was inspired by something else.

yea...but.
basically, "grew up" on art/photo manip.... so All im really good at is screwing up other peoples art to make it my own...
so, when I copied something (from memory or not) I wanted it to be exact... A mimicry of the original, not a mockery of it...
Empress, I hate to burst your bubble hun, but that old saw about "There's nothing new under the sun" is a proverb for a reason.
You will *never* in your whole life create something 100% original out of nowhere. That information can either depress you into not trying anything or elate you into trying all kinds of things.
Go, copy, then re-work it and make it yours. And tell us about it when you get it done because i know I'd like to see it.

Moogie, the problem is, that "copying" is ALL I can do.... :-/
more to the point, I cant put something (in the scope of "nothing is truely original") original that I come up with in my head, down on paper... even though I can picture it clearly
so, when I cant even copy something right....well... its like if all you were good at in life was sharpening pencils...and half the time the pencil tip broke the first time someone tried to use it.
