So I say, before anyone writes someone off as a noob, try talking with them. Sometimes they just don't know any better. Besides, I am pretty sure most of us have done something in the game (when we first started playing) that we would consider newbish now. I know there are childish or annoying players out there that refuse to learn. I am glad I haven't crossed many of their paths.

I had my 45 blaster in Steel Canyon on my way to a mish. I see a broadswoard/DA scrapper faceplanted with a bunch of council standing around him. So I give him an awaken and take out the enemies so he can rez. He was level 14, so I followed him a bit and would toss him a heal while he was fighting. Also, I'd use Chilling Embrace and stand next to him so that the bad guys would be debuffed, but he'd still get all the exp. I noticed he kept missing a lot. So I took the time out to explain some proper slotting techniques.

I told him that if he's still using TOs, he should have two or three accuracies in his attacks. He didn't know what a TO was. No problem, he'd only been playing for two days. So I told him the TOs were the training enhancements he was using. I then had him follow me to the store and read off how all of his powers were slotted. I totally outfitted him with all green DOs and told him he'd hit more often, harder, and with less endurance usage (some of his armors). I told him to make sure he doesn't neglect his armors anymore (he only had one resistance power and the damage aura).

He was VERY happy with all of the advice and gifts and was just so incredibly pleased with DOs since they're twice as good as TOs. He almost peed his armor when I told him about SOs. But yeah, sometimes just talking to people is the best thing. The allure of the game can be so great at times, a new player will just want to jump in and play and forget to read the manual.

The only problem with defeating the Tsoo is that an hour later, you want to defeat them again!

I have to admit this one is my noob story.

I hit level 32ish and was sk'd to a SG mate I think level 45ish or so. Anyways, I needed to shop and was trying to find the Science guy in Brickstown. (this was before Vidiot Maps was known about).

So, she & I are flying around and I saw some players grouped below us, I flew down and asked them twice where the science store was before I noticed they were level 36 Council.

Luckily, Mentor was in range or else I'd have eaten it.

Tempstra.

I just spit soda on my keyboard.

CoH is the only MMO I've ever played and I spent the first 18 levels solo (FPS habits die hard). When I finally got on a team for the first time, everyone was at the mish and I'm all "Hey, where are you guys?" Had not a clue how to find them.

Luckily, the leader was very patient and pointed me in the right direction. Once there, I asked for constructive criticism about teaming and everyone was very helpful. The way newbies are treated really can make or break the game for them.

I was on a PUG of level 14, I was the tank. We were in boomtown, and the leader decided attacking level 19's at the far northwall would be great xp. I tried to explain we are gonna be wiped. The team leader decided to go ahead with his plan as normal. I let him know.. Goodluck, I'm not risking that.

He kicks me from the team, but I decide to watch, whamo.. 6 orange names appear about 15 seconds after they enter the mob. He reinvites me, I decline, he proceeds to reinvite me 4 times until I have to turn off team invites, and I get tells to join them, so I do just to see what they have to say.. I joined, and they all scream in caps... Got awaken?! LOL I have 3 in my tray so I say sure.. I hit DP run in, and give the 3 awakens, barely escaping the onslaught of +5 Lost, and watch the three of them actually rez in the middle of the group of Lost..

LOL cya guys later

Great story! Sometimes you have to experience a little pain to get past nOOb status. Others seem to do their best to ignore the lessons.

I always started my toons in Atlas so the first time I started one in Galaxy City I couldn't find Back Alley Brawler. I looked all over but couldn't see him (I beleive this was before points of interest were added to the map so it was probably in beta). Finally I asked in broadcast where the trainer was and the person standing next to me pointed out that BAB was standing directly in front of me. DOH! I just didn't know what he looked liked and believe I had mob names turned off so he looked like a player. I also think this was before the pedestal that he now stands on.

I really wish people wouldn't use "newb" and "n00b" interchangably. There's a very useful distinction to be made there.

...one that is not readily apparent to those not bathed in the internet's popular culture. My highschool literature classes failed to prepare me for such distinctions.

Noob vs. newb

I apologise in advance if your high school literature classes failed to prepare you for reading comics.
