Interesting idea. I actually have a Hero who would fit that theme. He lost his powers durring the Rikti War though, so it would be an interesting place for him to end up.

Oh, I like that idea! The Clinic and the Assylum are my favorite ideas so far.

When you said: [ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ], I instantly thought of things like when the X-Men in [u]New X-Men: Academy X[u] would play basketball, and would use thier powers to score baskets or hinder their opponents. I would love to be able to do things like that in the clinic because it would be interesting to see how people use their powers outside of the Kill- the-Bad-Guys-As-Fast-As-Possible-box. Also, it would be cool if some of the staff were superheroes. For example: A Fire/Fire Blaster or Tank as the cook or a Mind Dominator/Controller as the receptionist, or a...well you get the idea

These are cool. I have one I'd like to pitch as well:

AFTERMATH

In a world much like the depicted "post-apocolyptic" fictional setting they read about as children in sci-fi comics, metas and other super-natural beings find themselves the only survivors of a real nuclear wipe-out- a real holocaust. Now, bound by the need to rebuild the world they inhabit from what is left, heroes and villains alike must ally themselves with one another to accomplish a common goal- one more important than any arch rivalry- they must rebirth an economy, from nothing.

This gives everyone an opportunity to use their powers to whatever need necessary, it provides plenty of characterization by alloting your character the space to have emotion towards issues- from the holocaust itself, to the reactions of having to work with others you thought would never be sided with you. Finally, it offers up a setting where there'd be plenty of social interaction, with opportunities for arguments and even fights to occur when the timing is right. All that, and it doesn't discriminate against heroes or villains...they'd all be present.

What would you like to get out of this thread?

[/ QUOTE ]

A feeling of community and belonging, without the overwhelming problem of falling behind in high post counts and lack of interaction with others. (I'd like everyone involved to be very tight knit...maybe even dependant on each other, which works well with my setting)

[ QUOTE ]
Any suggestions on Post-rate control? Max X number of post per day?

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm assuming you mean per participant? If so, then I think 5 per person, per day would work nicely. If you mean total, I don't know how we could limit that and still allow for everyone to have their part...

[ QUOTE ]
Still taking setting ideas.

See above.

I also like this...it lets people use their powers outside of the box like I said above.

I have a character that might fit the hospital/asylum story.. Freeze Flame being a little split personality and all.

The aftermath story I'd really have to think which of my characters would work for this one - SweetRevenge would be the obvious choice...

But thumbs up to either of these.

I'd be interested. I don't use many of the threads here because they just move so quickly...

Well I'm gonna feel this situation out a bit because Halo is a really good poster and I would love to be involved in this project, but regardless I intend on making AFTERMATH an RP thread on these boards at some point or another...we'll see.

YAY TEAM!

We should have a vote on the three...unless someone else is developing an idea...

Note: I have school starting Monday so I couldn't post during the day...would this be a problem? (I would probably get home 'round 3:30-4:00 EST)

I work from 8-5 Monday through Friday and sometimes I actually have to utilize my computer at work for office related tasks, so I don't have all day every day to lurk the boards waiting for or writing up my next post in an RP thread.

Seriously though, I would have to limit the posting especially if I were in charge of the thread because I wouldn't be able to keep up if it got ahead of me, and that would make me a terrible GM.

I'm anxious, however, to see what kind of direction Halo's RP takes because I'd love the opportunity to post with some of the crowd from AH101 again in a slower moving environment.

((edited because CuppaBack Alley changed his post as I was answering the question in what it was originally, LOL.))

I agree lets start a vote.

Aftermath
The Clinic
other (write in)_______________

I decree that voting is open till Monday evening (EST) to give everyone a chance to weigh decisions and a chance to post their vote.

Comments are still open on the proposed settings, creatively and logistically.

I hate to be egocentric, but since I hope to have my AFTERMATH RP up regardless, might as well attempt to make it here...so my vote goes to my own concept.

Sorry.

1) Would the 'Other' be E's Therapy Group one?

2) I vote for The Aftermath because I think we could use our powers most out of the box and would give us many chances to have conflict, mental, physical, emotional, etc., etc., etc. Also, I have always wanted to rebuild Paragon City...

I think the 'Therapy Group X' bit is contained in the Clinic proposal, essentially. It's the same basic hook (or so it appeared to me), just better lit and cleaner I'd think.

As for the two major proposals, I like both, admittedly. However, the Aftermath scenario seems to invite the real walking firebombs to be brought out. After all, who'd be more likely to survive a doomsday scenario than the guys who can sneeze out a sun if they're not careful? (Which of course also invites casting against type, but you catch my drift.)

While I'm certainly not innocent of having such characters I'd prefer the Clinic setup due to a relative irrelevance of power levels and allows people to concentrate on interaction. So that gets my vote.

I see your point, however, thanks to the fantastic rule against god-modding and such, these things would not be an issue...otherwise I would not have suggested such a discriminatory idea.

While I have characters in mind who could work in either scenario, I'm going to throw my vote in for the Clinic, for several reasons.

The biggest issue with infrequent posts is interaction. It's frustrating waiting days for another contibutor's response to your character's dialogue or actions. The Clinic environment allows for far more controlled interactions between participants. The Aftermath scenario is far more chaotic and free form, better suited to more active posting.

As Eisregen noted, the Clinic environment is friendlier to lower power characters than Aftermath. I personally feel more comfortable with that. I prefer to have my characters develop their powers, rather than starting out powerful.

While both scenarios have great character development and story potential, the Clinic, again being a controlled environment, is better for limiting conflict and keeping the focus on the writing instead of the fighting. Remember, fights more than anything else drive up the post count, which is what we're trying to discourage.

So yeah, put me down for Clinic.

You haven't lost yet, Final-X

My mental tally has the voting very close, and I havent cast my vote yet. I may vote for Aftermath so you can take all of the GM overhead

Still 11 hours left to vote.

lol.

after my post I looked back and saw that we were 2 & 2, but most people have a good point: the clinic is just more subtle, calm, and interaction inviting than mine I suppose.

I mean, my intentions were not to create some destruction ridden world where everyone had to fight for survival- it was more a, "OH NOES! Our planet is in shambles...we must rebuild!" (valiant music plays).

We'll see. Either way I'm excited to get back into RP'ing on the boards at a pace more suitable to my lifestyle.

I think I like the apocalyptic scenario (although if the vote goes the other way, I'd like to be a part of that one, too!). It has the potential to become a hurried fight-fest, but considering the sort of writer this idea appeals to, I think that can be avoided.

I've made several attemts in these threads, enjoyed them, but have inevitably closed out my character and left. This has been due partly to the frenzied pace, which I believe is detrimental to good writing. It's also because of the tendency to lapse into a totally fight-oriented situation (and when I want to fight, I'll play the frelling game, thanks!). That leads to a uberness escalation, and the result in many cases has been a loss of the initial vision of the thread (the Hero and Villain 101 threads being prime examples).

Looking forward to this!

Mind you, I think I might have a ton of fun with my boy Stranglehold in the Aftermath scenario. Though I'm not sure if people wouldn't find the idea I'd have offensive (and no, it doesn't involve anything sexual).

In the Clinic, well, I have one character whose backstory would perfectly fit the profile and a few others who'd easily be able to sneak in as well. Though I still think it seems easier to succeed in that environment (succeed as in 'have fun, get to protray your character as intended').

This sounds like it could be fun. I'll keep my eyes out. I like the idea of a slower paced RP. I hate trudging through 14 pages of posts between the time I log out for work and when I get home. (Minimum of 9 hours.)
