  1. I'm holding out for the nVidia Fermi (Geforce 300 series).

I mean, that ought to do it, I figure.

THANK YOU. That drove me freaking crazy over the double XP weekend.

    I guess I necro only the mostly-dead.

Anyway, I do still have trouble with the various XP bar colors, but my color vision deficiency is pretty unusual. Mostly at this point, I get the 'patrol XP' and 'acquired XP' colors confused. So, I've just started keeping 'XP to Level' from Combat Stats up on screen at all times.
  4. I hate the debt and patrol bars, all the colors are too similar for a severely R/G colorblind person like myself. I always have to use the mouseover or right-click tip on my XP bar to check.

Is there a way for it to NOT require a password?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not really, unless you turn UAC off.

Then again, this was posted recently... It's worth a shot if it's a big deal for you, but I don't know if it will work with a standard user account as well as it does on an administrator account.
  6. You can, technically, but it will prompt you for an administrator user name and password to elevate the game's privileges.

    Blaster Changes?

Electric/ needs more than anything to have its end drain boosted on most of its powers, and to have the PvP-only nerf from that effect removed, especially since everyone has Stamina these days, anyway. Otherwise, the end drain is about as useful as... something not useful.
  8. Not an issue, really, but to get a good scope of performance things are slightly faster than I7 for me, but mostly the same.

Fairly steady 31 FPS outdoors in CoV (SuperJump, excluding Grandville)
Average 48 FPS outdoors in CoH (SuperSpeed)
No lower than 18 FPS in the most demanding situations I was in (full team, 30+ mobs, outdoor instance)
Peaked at 93 FPS in the most favorable situations (solo, lab map)

Running at 1024x768, all settings maxed, except Depth of Field turned off.

Core 2 Duo 6400 (Clocked to 2.25 GHz), 2GB DDR2-800, Geforce 7600GS 512MB, Integrated Sound, Windows XP Home, all drivers updated.

Edit: I am using '-renderthread 1' in my shortcuts.
  9. That's pretty impressive! It's actually hard to get sketching done in PhotoShop products, in my experience. Painter is hard to learn, but magnificent. If you'd like OpenCanvas, send me an IM - It's legally freeware, it's just hard to find.
  10. I love my Graphire3 4x5, though it does take a little getting used to - both the smaller area to draw on and drawing on the tablet while looking at the screen. Out of curiosity, what program are you drawing in? I highly recommend OpenCanvas (particularly the old 1.1 version, if you can find it), and Painter, if you have the patience to learn the intricacies.
  11. Nice to see a little blaster love coming down the pipe. I really wish Elec/ would be looked at, though. I know it's the least effective Blaster set, and I'm fine with that, but without the end drain, it's less than useless in PvP, and the fact that it STILL doesn't have a MISS animation like the rest of the ranged sets bothers me.
  12. I'm probably one of the biggest supporters of this game. I was happy when ED came around, even, if that says anything. But bases? Bleh.

I belong to one of the bigger supergroups on Victory (I think, anyway), and our base has everything. We've got teleporters and worktables of every kind, plenty of purely-pretty stuff, and... whatever else bases have. I keep getting lost in there, even, when I go in.

Frankly, I don't give a (insert colorful metaphor here).

It's not MY base, it's our base-monkey's base. I don't get to play with the layout or the design. It's like the Sims if you locked me out of the buy and build modes. Our base-monkey does an awesome job, but I'd care more about my awesome base than his flawless base.

Personal items are entirely opposite of what the name implies they are. They are just items that the base-monkey doesn't see on his standard list. They're his items that I pay for... And generally no one really wants people placing personal items, anyway. They're still expensive and take up space. With the salvage storage now, it's not even the members' place to make the items, just to contribute the salvage.

MMOs, perhaps surprisingly, in contrast to traditional games, are about the individual. This has been mentioned in the speech here, which I find interesting, because bases conflict entirely with that idea. Not only is their design promoting function well over form, but the requirements ensure that only 1/50th (as a best case, assuming that every single player is a member of a successful supergroup) of the entire playerbase gets to experience it in any meaningful capacity.

With that silly bit of bases being 'individual' aside, there is no reason to use the base outside of being a teleport hub. Everything else in the base (and even the teleport, to an extent, using Pocket D) is more readily available and better outside the base. The bases aren't even useful from an RP standpoint, given the bugs that lock people out or kick people from the bases.

Bases are ugly. The designer, though technically expansive and rudimentally functional, the room layout restrictions are clunky and, to risk repetition, tightly restricting. Objects are tightly attached to their grids, and glued to their space... their space that nothing else can occupy, no less. Everything is perfectly positioned and locked down and unnatural. Even the most ADD group of people wouldn't have their space so scientifically laid out.

In summary, bases are restricted to only a select few, as far as the 'fun' parts go, they are not pretty, there's little to do, and they generally don't work. There is nothing compelling about them, as far as an 'average' (albeit long-time) player like myself goes.

I don't know if they're a "failure", but I really can't bring myself to care.
  13. I'd be up for it. I'm busy all the time, but I'd love to start roleplaying here, either with Zephyr Cyclone or Schysm, or even Rabite or F4027, who I created to roleplay with, but could never find any opportunities to in-game.
  14. What the hey - I'll jump on the bandwagon.
    Two characters:

Zephyr Cyclone (Elec/Elec Blaster) - A mutant that was born with no manifesting powers. Struck down in a thunderstorm, he gained powers over electricity and the speed of lightning, and suffers complete amnesia of his former life, to which he doesn't look back.

He likes his current costume, but shiney spandex may not hold up in more hazardous environments, particularly those of other dimensions. He's looking to keep his sense of style and energy, but needs something practical to protect him.

Schysm (SS/Inv Brute) - Crey Industries' attempt to reverse-engineer a Council Warwolf gone awry. Schysm's humanity was torn from him over months in the deepest labs of the evil megacorporation, and to this day he is, at best, an intelligent animal. He did not escape, but was rather set loose on Paragon City on a mission before being subdued by a small band of experienced heroes. Arachnos got him before Crey got him back. Through his lengthy career as a doer of dirty work, he's gotten the curious attention of something dark and not-of-this-world, of which he is not yet aware.

Schysm doesn't really wear a costume at all, but he's got two extra costume slots that are sitting around completely unused. The difficulty is costuming him up in a way that would make sense and keep his existing appearance in-tact.

    Thanks, either way.

    Here's Fault's request...

    Zephyr Cyclone

When you get a shot of the new mask, let me know and I'll touch it up for ya!

    Enjoy!

Next up : Inner Spike's Inner Spike!!! Stay tuned!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Whee! Thank you. It looks awesome. I haven't been in-game in a while to get a decent shot of his new mask, but I will let you know when I can.

Again, it looks AWESOME. Thanks a lot!
  16. Very nice! Thank you, mist. And there's no way you could overuse lightning. It's all about the zapping of people.

If you want to know what I found was odd is really just a minor thing, and that's where his forehead on the right side transitions into his hair doesn't quite make sense. It looks like he's got a spike before his hair starts.

That aside, I think it looks good. Sort of reminiscent of Akira Toryama's style. Zephyr's pretty thin, which is hard to draw, but I think you pulled it off well. Thanks again. I might put it through Photoshop and give it some color later, even.
  17. What the heck. Count me in if you've got the time.

    OR

    Schysm

    Thanks, either way.
  18. When I get a chance (Probably not tonight), I'll try going with the tights again with a different swatch. Maybe a Galaxy or something, and see what comes up. I think trying to wear 'Energy Blast' spandex might just be a bad idea in itself.

On the other hand, I switched my Main's electric eyes from row J to row M thanks to the bar of powers on your page, and I've gotten good comments on it. I'll try and get some screenshots, since the two colors I used look (to me) exactly the same. I'm starting to think power-colors, at least the exact color, could best be used for auras, rather than costumes.

That said, the enemy swatches so far seem to be working out really well. In fact, I might have to make Arachnos Prototype into a real character now. 8P I already won a costume contest with him while I was waiting for day to dawn and to get a good screenshot. ... Yes, I only later realized I could just walk into City Hall for good lighting.
  19. Best of luck to you! I'm really interested to see what you come up with.
  20. If you wanted to take a crack at Zephyr Cyclone, that'd be cool.

    Reference

He uses a different mask now, but I'm always changing it, so it doesn't really matter. His cape matches his costume on the outside - Grey with yellow lightning, and it's just shy of black inside, as you can see... His boots are spiked like his gloves, and that's hard to see here. Elec/Elec Blaster, obviously.
  21. Yeah, I don't think I really succeeded with the energy blaster, which is ironic, considering I really prefer the classic hero look for most of my characters. In retrospect, I don't really like those colors in general - They do look a bit washed-out. Using just J7 and B10 for the primary colors probably would have worked better, with maybe a darker B-row color for the trim on the shoulder-pads and for the emblem.
  22. Um... Hate to be a party pooper, but my graphics are actually completely maxed out. ... And FSAA doesn't work on my poor old PC. I can try to use my friend's PC to take more graphics-intensive screenies this weekend, but until then, this is the best I can do without hard locking CoH.
  23. It is time! I have created three heroes using the guides on the City of Color Consultants page! For those just joining us, I suffer from protanopia, and am typically guilty of making some fairly ugly costume color schemes, including a very grievous error involving Cyan. Without further ado, the costumes!

I started with something simple, in this case, the guide based on the Council Mek Man. A7 is the primary silver, and A1 the black secondary. I used B4 for trim, which, incidentally, I had to turn into bright blue while I was working for it to stand out. Personally, that dark of red blends in with black to me, so I just changed it to B4 AFTER setting where I wanted it.
    Arachnos Prototype

After that, I decided to go with a more traditional Hero costume. The only powerset guide available was for Energy powers, so I made an Energy Blaster. This one was a lot harder, because the colors probably clash more than I realize. I'm using Energy Melee with Energy Blast III. Lots of J7 and B9 in here, and I tried to use enough J10 to divide it up. I don't think it came out as nicely as the robot above, but I might just be partial to silver.
    En Ar Gi

Finally, I decided to be a little daring, and I looked for the most varied palette. Ah! Freakshow VI seems to fit the bill. Lots of black, sure, but also a couple colors I can't visually identify (O4, O5, G7). I used the description a bit more for this one, and only took a couple liberties on where exactly to put the colors... After all, Freakshow Supply Line is not a costume piece we can get. Oddly enough, I think this one came out the best, though I may have spent the most time on it. (Incidentally, there is a typo on the swatch itself, where the O5 section is labeled 'B5'. Reading the explanation of the swatch cleared that up, but it's something worth fixing.)
    Spixe

Anyway, there you have it! Let me know what those of you who can really see colors think, and if your eyes bleed at all, it's not my fault!
  24. Of course, I go home to try all this out last night, and my internet connection is spotty at best, and I can't get to the guide page OR log on to city of heroes for more than a couple minutes at a time.

    CURSE YOU, COMCAST! CUUUUURSE YOOOOOU!
