RAWR! <^_^> Ink version of my latest pencils! I'm pretty proud of it; though I'm a little annoyed at the eyes <;.;> They're drawn 'ok'; but they're too low and too small... not totally happy with their shape either.

But I'll let everyone else tell me what they think <,< When I finish; the color version will get its own thread.

Um... your gonna have to define "too small" because I apparently just don't understand the phrase at all. And too low? I'm totally not seeing that either. Did you put the right link up?

Her eyes seem to be in about the right place and if your were gonna move them, I'd say down before up. If they were raised any farther, she's have no room for her brain up top. It's a great drawing... about the only problem I can see with it has nothing to do with her eyes; it's her head. Her jaw should go up and towards the ear where her neck meets her head. As it stands right now, her head would need to be scoched over to the right a touch or her jaw should go up before going into the hair. At the moment, she has a touch of the boble-head syndrome, but that's it.

Good drawing so far... and I have no clue what you're going on about with the eyes... again, is that the right link?

Yep <@_@> its the right link <'x'>;

Maybe I'm just seeing things <,<;; As a manga style artist; I tend to do BIG eyes... ... and these, while large, aren't quite as big as normal; on further looking though, I think you're right in that they aren't too low >.<

Still wish I'd done em a tad larger though >.>;; just a bit, not tons... its err, a fiddly bit <'x'>

Glad you like it >_<; So happy to get a response on this hehe <,< I've been kinda hopping around at home excited all night >.<;

The jaw thing I noticed too <~_~>; but I was hoping no one else would <'x'>; oh well, at least I got the neck proportion right this time >.<;; Next time I'll fix that!

Squirrel is excited and half asleep and rambly <~_~> thanks for the comments Graver, ya made my night!

New sketches "comming soon" (TM) (Thanks again PMD and Z I just pumped out several very quick sketches that uhm... oddly enough feel 'better' to me than what I just put up earlier <x.x> scanner's being a pain and not letting me put them up so light though (I can't even darken the lines its that light), so I gotta go over em with a darker pencil - wanted to 'favorite' the tree so I can find it again... this thing gets lost too easily!

'ere we go! >.< I took a new approach on these. I did the spine first as suggested and I tried to steer away from giving it the 'manga' look until after I constructed the base.

The scans are higher res than I usually do (and dark cause of the sketchiness >< I had to make sure it was visible) - but I wanted to show the 'inner workings'. I figure people may be able to give me better tips if they can see how I'm doing it.

Anyways >.< tips welcome. The elfy is the friend who's cleric I did's husband. (What a mouthful!) I'm much happier with it, though I know I can do better still.

Elven Ranger (yeah, I know... I know...)

Yumii Sketchsheet - this was what I practiced on first - I chose a workout/practice session theme... it just fit with what I was doing; I was reasonably happy how it came out for a sheet of doodles <~.~>

Anyways >< yeah. Am I on the right track?

Yknow, you go on and on about how much you suck for a whole day, and then you come out with two new sketch papers that are fun to look at.

Can't wait for more, dood.

I rather like both pieces, Squirrely! They're pretty neat (I especially like the elf ranger one, love the pose and linework there). I bet if you worked a bit harder at it, you could produce some real stunning stuff. Maybe you could try adding some scenery to the background of the ranger sketch? And adding some more detail to the one of Yumii (a series of action-shots... Training montage!).

Both pieces have a real nice feel to them, though.

Hehe, thanks <~.~> both of ya... I think it was mostly that I was doing things 'in the wrong order'. Its been literally many months since I did any figure drawing at *all*; so I guess I'd just gotten myself bass-ackwards; thanks to PMD and Z I got it straightened around >.> I think... I hope...

I still think there's a long long way to go... <~.~> and Aaron, if you had any idea how *long* I've been at this lol <X-x> Trust me; I'm not very good. I just keep working and working and working <x.x> Someday I'll get it! I can't quit, even if I want to lol <x.x>;;

Thanks though, needed a morale boost >.< I just hope this right here wasn't some stupid fluke.

Think of yourself as Rock Lee (from Naruto)!

Some people are born with natural talent for something. But, it doesn't make them automatically better. They just get a head start, and it's a little easier for them. However, with hard work and effort, someone with little to no talent in an area can, eventually, meet or exceede what those with natural talent have.

Why? Because you have nothing to work with. You learn the basics, and you learn them well, because that's all you really have to work with. People with 'talent' can typically skip the basics - and miss out on a lot of stuff that would probably have been good for them -to- learn. Because you've spent so much time at 'mediocre' (Note: I think your stuff is great, I'm just using that in terms of your own perception, not mine) levels, you've had plenty of time to absorb the material there. You just have to keep working at it.

Don't give up! Don't lose hope! Keep pushing along, and before you know it, your goal will be in sight.

MORE SKETCHIES! >.>

Akotha - 1

Akotha - 2

Akotha - 3

Akotha - 4

These are all of the same ranger as the previous elf sketch >.> I'm trying to get him down right and in a more 'realistic' manner.

I'm liking my figure drawings more... though they're still hardly perfect - I'm not so happy with the face though. He either looks too female, or just not realistic at all <x.x> or sometimes both!

Anyways, lemee know what you think >< Its still very very very sketchy because I'm just practicing basics!

Looks good for you just practicing the basics. Try to give him more of a square jaw if you want him to look more like a male.

Posted

Thanks >,< Must keep practicing >.> Goal is to get figure drawing back under my belt. I used to be 'OK' at it... but I let it go for over a year without touching it. I've also almost never drawn males before >.>; so... yeah...

I'll give the jaw thing a try >.>

And an update... The person who's pic I've been working on picked a pose and I'm getting things hammered down to a more finalized sketch >.> I may yet redraw it again... and maybe a time after that too... I'm not quite happy he looks so stiff <;.;>

Comments are appreciated as always <,<

Akotha Prelim Sketch

Oh - and no he's not naked >.> The clothes are going to be added last-stage; so he's just got boots and armor bits right now... there'll be more I promise lol <X.x> Just wanted to mention that.

Anyways >.> Impressions? Thoughts? Ideas? Hatemail?

looks good so far...even if it is a nekid elf. hehe
should turn out pretty durn good once you have all the detail work done. for a "workin" stage I like and look forward to the completed piece.

critique-wise: only thing stands out is the back foot. I know what you want ta do with it...just tough to see if that will be the end result. as I mentioned though, its a work in progress so lotsa latitude with this lil bit.~

Nice angle.

Yeah I'm really not happy with that foot just yet >.< hoping to fix it pre-inking.

Glad you like the angle Juggertha <^_^> I was hoping to make it a little less 3/4 view... but it turned out well enough that I want to stick with this viewpoint.

I was slightly surprised though that he wanted the back view, as opposed to the front. His character though >.> I just hope I do it justice.

Akotha - Colors *EARLY* Stages

This is just a small update - I've inked and begun the coloring process >.> This is a very very very early stage - everything's really messy right now; but I wanted to put it up like this because I think the color is already improving the basic lines. Not sure I'm happy with the shoulders though... Anyone have a suggestion with them?

As always - any feedback is great!

Hrmm, Sorry bout that.

I went barebones/frame on ya.

Here's what I meant.

Don't change the back. It's perfect.

The only things that need tweaking are his shoulder pads and his back flap.

Rotate/Roll the left shoulder pad away from us.

Rotate/Roll the right shoulder pad towards us.

That'll covey a better sense of motion and "free" it up.

The backflap looks odd. It should be centered and even with back. Just move it to the right a little and add some sway(like the cape). That'll make it look like he's twisting his hips to center his aim.

Sorry for the confusion,

-CJ
