As City of Heroes launches in Asia, a new band of heroes has joined Statesman in the struggle against evil. Check out the trailer video here or read our latest update here to find out all about the dramatic way these heroes first met!

That was an amazing video! Send kudos to the ones who need them for it!!!

So, now that the door's been opened, are new zones going to be available to those of us poor souls stuck in the US? The city where the cemetary was located was very cool.

After seeing it, a couple more questions:

How is COH in Asia going to be different from the US/EU version?

Will any addtional powers/costumes/whatnot make their way to the western world?

And a comment:

The final shot in the video shows the name of the game as "City of Hero", what gives?

Thanks oh Queen of Darkness!

I'll post anything she lets slip

Is any of this new? Wasn't the Korean launch sometime early last year?

Nope, coming this spring, I believe, possibly with Issue 7. Would make sense with the pistol scrapper shown in the video.

OK. But we saw videos with Afterthought..eh, Foreshadow shortly after the anime costumes hit with I4, was it?

Foreshadow first appeared in the CoV base raid trailer. Then he got spliced in (badly) with the CoH opening cinematic trailer thingie that caused a lot of discussion back then.

Hmm... I wonder if City of Hero is set in South Korea or Rhode Island?

Speaking of the badly-edited CoH opening trailer way back when, we've actually seen Spark Blade there.

Flying through the sky during the Rikti assault
Winding up for the pitch
You know this is going to look good
ZAP
And off it goes...
... to a Rikti drone...
... which barely stops it...
... but explodes anyway

Later, with Rose Star

EDIT: Incidentally, if you're wondering who was in Spark Blade's place in the original US version, he's the guy in blue with a headband standing behind Spark Blade in the pic with Rose Star, with what looks like energy blaster powers. He's in the same position in that shot in the US version as well, while Spark Blade and Rose Star are actually one large guy wearing red and crossed ammo belts.

... that's probably way too much information.

from here.

"Guided by the Legacy Chain mystics, Statesman tracked the origin of these radiating ley lines to a quiet, unassuming city park. By the light of the full moon, Statesman approached the small park from which the unearthly power emanated. "Without warning, an ancient magic lashed Statesman with its luminescent tendrils, capturing him helpless with no Freedom Phalanx to back him up. Lured by an unknown hand, Statesman had unwittingly walked into a trap designed to drain his powerful energy!"

So now we know why States loves teaming and hates soloing so much: he sucks at it!

I mean, he didn't even have a Breakfree in his Insp tray? Noob!

See what happens when you nerf mez resistance?

I am curious about something, though: who's the guy who sent all those zombies and laid the trap in the first place?

Here's her response:

Glad you liked it! Be sure to let everyone on the boards know that there will be absolutely no difference between the Korean version and the US/EU version of the game .

I think the singular use of “Hero” is for the Korean translation though someone with a better grasp of Korean could probably answer that one better than I.

It would be cool if they were going to do some Asian re-styling of the Paragon City environments for the Asian market... That'd get them that much closer to having the artwork necessary for World of Heroes in the future (they already have some European building styling in The Rogue Isles and Kroatoa).

Maybe a "China town" of some sort ... that would be a nice touch

If the Korean players are going to get exactly the same game as us, then isn't it somewhat misleading to create this very anime-looking promotional video?

Also, while we've come to grips with the idea that important NPCs have access to unique costume items (e.g. Numina's jacket) and signature powers (e.g. Scirocco's sword), aren't they laying that stuff on a little thick with these new characters? Some of the Korean gamers might be a little distressed that they can't make characters even close to what they're being shown in the video.

Frankly, if it's believed the Korean players would prefer a more anime-based setting to the standard superhero fare, then maybe they should get a modified version of the game. On the other hand, if they're going to be playing the same game as us set in Rhode Island, USA, then I think this advertising may backfire.

Or... [conspiracytheoristmode]... maybe "no difference between the Korean and US/EU versions" really means that we will be the ones facing major changes, as I7 launches with an event that physically transports Paragon City to an island just off the Korean peninsula... [/conspiracytheoristmode]

I've been lobbying for a new city zone in the space between Steel Canyon and Independance Port. One half of it would be "Little Italy" and the other would be "Chinatown", and the zone arc would feature a Family/Tsoo conflict. Ideally featuring lvl 15-25 mobs.

They'd have to call that "Hmong Town," wouldn't they?

Posted

I think the Tsoo are equal-opportunity when it comes to recruiting young Asian men to their ranks. Since Paragon has a dense Hmong population, this means that the Tsoo recruit a log of Hmong. (s? never did figure out how to pluralize that.)

Plural of Hmong = Hmung?

All I can say is it's a good thing Awry doesn't read the forums or else she might have realized she was being tricked into giving out information that would be broadcast to the world!

Wow. Close shave there, huh?

Amazing stuff.

It was a close one wasn't it!?

I enjoyed the video and too wonder about the powers featured. MA was obvious, but were we getting a preview of forthcoming powersets? Pistol scrappers and shapeshifting (the "melting" woman)? Why did they all turn on each other at the end? Very cool video but so many questions.

Read the page that was referred to... Rose's mentor thought she'd been attacked, so went to attack... er, whatserface... so HER mentor jumped in to defend her.

Yeah, in the middle of a fight.

Great timing.

I get the funniest feeling while watching it... well, Statesman walks across the trap on the ground and is ensnared... perhaps triggered traps will be in the next update. If so, then you will need perception to see them and skills to disarm them!
